@@TheDailyConversation I think you were fair and pretty broad in your highlighting. And of course as a homer I’m going to give you 50 more things I think you missed. 🫣😜…However I will spare u the exhaustive list and just offer u 3 areas to watch to track if the progress continues..1) Mass Transit. We are still the the largest metropolitan area in the US without regional mass transit. So far the first salvo is the QLine which now runs for roughly 3 miles along Woodward that runs through downtown with long term plans to connect deep into the suburbs?? Which brings me to 2) The role for good and bad of the private sector namely Dan Gilbert who owns and maintains much of the buildings downtown including what will be the 2nd largest building in Michigan when completed The Hudson’s Building and it’s also the new headquarters of GM. The other major private sector investor The Illitch family (which owns Little Ceasers and the Redwings who while they have made significant investments have not fully delivered on their lofty development promises they agreed to in exchange for the incentives they received for the arena. Finally 3) I would just refer you to the mayor’s most recent State of the City address kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5eup59mor1kaacsi=kbEy4ksmsTvPMFem particularly the portion about the Land Value Tax (which I believe Pittsburgh uses also? Which taxes heavier all undeveloped parcels of land) it’s down right exciting to see all the good things this administration is doing!! 🙌🏽 Hopefully we don’t lose him to the Governor’s mansion??🙏🏾…That being said I am far more interested ..maybe in a future video?🤞🏾😜…any suggestions you have learned about in covering so many much larger cities and how they are grappling with both unique and common problems that all growing cities must address?? Thanks again for the love…next time u are in the city, beers on me!!🙌🏽🙌🏽

@@TheDailyConversation I am writing with a bit of sadness as the biggest catalyst in the turnaround of the city Mayor Duggan has just announced he will not seek a fourth term as mayor (likely to run for Governor)…even though I really hate to see him leave I hope whoever follows him in the mayor’s office uses the same metric of success that Mayor Duggan used since day 1 of his tenure…Population growth of the city..which the city achieved this year for the 1st time since 1957!!😮🙌🏽🙌🏽 Hopefully when u do a future video..*hint hint??!😜 …that trend continues??!🤞🏾👀

Hey VERY accurately represented my city well :) - I'm a bit saddened, haven't visited downtown just yesterday for the Christmas festivities. To see SOOOO many family's there, husbands and wives with children, boyfriends and girlfriends with parents, teenagers, and pets, all walking around, peacefully, enjoying everything Detroit has to offer...and for me to leave, in exactly 2 weeks from now to a foreign country...brought me to tears. I've seen the fall and rise to where it is now. Foreigners from all over the world come here now. That was not a thing for DECADES until the last 2 - 3 years. Bell Isle was restored (wish you'd have covered it, too), riverwalk is awesome, the Dequindre Cut is a cut above the rest. And the razing of abandoned buildings was a radical idea at the time, and I would get lost because I couldn't recognize the areas anymore due to re-development or the razing of those buildings. Dugan is a light unto the city and world. It saddens us he won't be seeking another term, and he has large shoes to fill. As Governor, he will be equally great, if not better, but as a conservative, I'd vote for him as President (or Governor) ANY day of the week. He's that good, thoughtful, kind and caring of a leader. I was at the Michigan Train Station concert where he gave his speech. I could see him up close and personal both in the crowd and while on stage. He was teary eyed. He'd seen what he'd accomplished from his vision, his dream of this city. One of the greatest mayors of this century to ever do it, and ever will. God Bless, Duggan. We, the city, wish him all the best.

Gives Germany Ruhr Valley Vibes. After Coal Mining ended the whole area had to reinvent itself. Some cities even were hit twice, like Bochum after the shutdown of a huge car factory. Now the focus lies on everything tech, cyber security etc. But you still see the heavy industry background everywhere and we also have bike paths where old train tracks used to be and stuff like that. Detroit will shine again, I'm positive about that! Cheers

I currently live on the east side of Detroit and have seen a lot of abandoned homes be renovated, however- if you drive around you will realize what a long way Detroit has to go. There isn’t even a full size name brand full size grocery store in the city- just markets.

Interesting fact. He was the first white mayor elected in Detroit since the late 1960s. The last black mayor hired a financial guy, and they both robbed the city they were tasked to save.

Proud of you Mayor Duggan & Chief James White. This needs be embraced and deserves a national spotlight. When we collectively work towards a common goal, for betterment of human kind and community. Our race, gender and creed no longer take center stage, instead, it exists left. Here in Chicago, we have so much to learn from both of you leaders.
