I watched August Underground based on this video alone. I'm not a fan of a lot of extreme horror, aside from select movies like Inside or Frontieres. But I agreed with a lot of what you said and appreciate them as movies! And ended up getting a copy of The Final Interview afterwards. Awesome channel and awesome collection.

August Underground: Penance is my favorite of the trilogy. Fred Vogel could continously print his movies and they would always sell. He has stated over and over that he doesn't want the movies everywhere.

I had heard the name Fred Vogel and well I may not be into really extreme stuff like August Underground series. This interview with him made me buy The Final Interview 3 disc blu ray even though I live in the UK. He seems like nice and chill dude and I wanted to support him from even across the pond here.

Fred is a great guy and i love these movies even today, I remember asking him if he still had the original video or whatever he shot these movies on because i think they would be even more shocking seeing all the gore effects without the tape degrading look to it. The first 2 movies, obviously penance didnt have the aged look because HD was the thing at the time.

So I just watched the second one, one thing I had a question about. Is the guy with long black hair in the piercing/tattoo shop who says “the cops are here” the same guy that shows them the shed?
@mrparka3 жыл бұрын
The guy in the shed is Killjoy. I don't remember where they first meet Killjoy in the movie, but I would say that is a safe bet, the movie is so chaotic it's hard to recall all the details.

@@mrparka boy you said it haha. I always like extreme horror but always avoided Fred’s movies because there was so much bad information out from randos online “oh there’s no plot, the movie is terrible and just disturbing and mean spirited for the sake of being just that. But after listening to Fred in interviews I have really developed an appreciation for Fred Vogel as a person and his work. They might not be movies I want to rewatch all the time, but his story in how he, like so many other filmmakers starting out, just wanted to make stuff, and he did the best with what he had and the result was incredibly effective in what it’s purpose was. And now he’s still making movies and doing it!!! I always wanted to work in cinema and Fred Vogel is just one of those Kevin smith types that just show you that if you want to do it, screw what anyone else says, just go out and make stuff. Love it. I wish I could reach out to Fred easier to explain this but I basically have no social media... because I hate it...
@mrparka3 жыл бұрын
@@dirkwoodcock9376 social media is a mofo, but i have it for the show. Fred is a great guy, if you see him at a convention tell him how ya feel im sure he'd like hearing it. Not all his movies are for everyone, but not all his movies are the same. He has a lot of passion and I think that shows in his films and how he interacts with other film fans.

I don’t like those movies not because they disturb me they’re just so cheap and amateurish, embarrassing to watch, for the most part they’re not even good at being disturbing, you know being as loud and grimy as possible doesn’t always cut, I’ve been much more distressed by some of the movies that have featured you sir lol

I disagree that theyre amateurish personally, I mean theyre not top quality cinema by any means. That said, he really is one of the only modern filmmakers besides Von trier that can pull off the cinema veratay style. (I know its spelled wrong lol) especially the first film the rough gritty style of filming mixed with the mundane bullshit that early 20s kids would film back when cameras were readily available is what makes it so real. I do agree that he doesnt pull it off in the third film because the cuts were very obvious and for a few other reasons, but I think that no one will ever be able to do what Fred did ever again. He really delved into the life of an irresponsible ignorant young killer. Yeah it seemed amateurish, and childish in some ways, but I think Thats what made these characters so accurate and real.
