Aviatrixleather has these, a lot of stores have them with their own branding on them it seems. It’s a soft leather jacket without any other protection.

@@brb653 Those Aviatrix jackets are more for wearing on a night out in the pub rather than wearing on a motorcycle, thin pig's leather and no protection, that's a no from me as I used to own one, I never used it for riding.

It's a great show. I went to the first one which was about 35 bikes in a field miles from anywhere, it's come on a bit since then. I didn't go this year because I saw your vlog on Irish Ferries and though "I can do that", so I went to the Ardennes for a few days instead and had an utterly brilliant time riding through the forests. Best of all, you can pay for Irish Ferries with your Tesco vouchers so that makes the crossing half price. Thank you Freddie for inspiring me to get off my arse and do something exciting. Picos here I come.

24:00 So much to comment on in this episode! The police version of that Commander was the Interpol. I think the additional lights behind the screen were originally the blue emergency vehicle lights. Google some footage of the old Norton rotary racer in action - the exhaust note is like no other motorcycle!
@FreddieDobbs2 ай бұрын
Ahhhh fascinating!🚨 Googling how- thank you
@mslattery87102 ай бұрын
@@FreddieDobbs He's right you know. I had a Commander for nearly ten years and enjoyed every reliable mile I rode on it. Please look into the history of the Norton rotaries. It's a facinating aside from the chequered history of the Norton marque we all know and love. The watercooled Commander was a civilian development of the Police, Military and RAC patrol bike Interpol models. They are rare because they were hand built in low numbers to order. Many of the police models were subsequently sold on and civilianised as you have seen. The aircooled Interpol was the first iteration of the Norton twin chamber motor and there was a factory limited run of just 100 bikes marketed as the Classic, which was sold to the public and is probably the one to have now Although an ex Police Interpol can be converted quite easily to resemble a Classic in some shape or form as it is essentially the same bike. The Wankel engined Nortons are incredibly overlooked bikes and as a result are way under priced even today. A Commander such as the one you saw at the show could be bought for around the 5k mark or even less, depending on condition. Engine lubrication is provided via a Mikuni oil pump that injects lubricant directly into the engine internals and is burnt alongside the fuel air mixture, very much like a 2 stroke engine is lubricated. The combustion gasses are so hot that the small amount of oil is completely burnt and the engine is comparatively clean running and dosen't smell like a 2 stroke when it's running properly. The Norton Wankel engined bikes were without doubt the most highly developed and reliable Wankel engined motorbikes ever to see the road and race circuit. There was much scope for further development of the concept but as ever with the British bike industry of the late 90's the money ran out. As with Wankel engined cars like the Mazda and NSU of the day, the public just weren't ready for something as unusual and innovative as the rotary.

Norton made only 253 of the water cooled rotary bikes. I am not sure of the split between Police and civilian models (the RAC and RAF also had a few). I bought mine new from the factory in 1989 and still have it. I also have two of the Police air-cooled version, one of which I am converting to an adventure bike. Come down to Sussex next summer and try them out.

The south-east definitely got the best of the weather this year. I would like a pipeline for water built from North Wales to East Anglia, with North Wales residents getting free water bills for the profits from the water exported to the driest part of England. Re classic bikes: unless you're an investor hoping for capital gains, there's no way I would recommend buying one because I know how much maintenance they require. I prefer a modern BMW which just goes when you press the starter button. Nice film. Where's Monika?
