I would take this over an E46 M3 SMG. The torque converter is so smooth.

I previously owned a 95 E36 M3 5 speed. Drove it for several years. Great car! I truly miss it. I've now owned a 97 E36 M3 4D Automatic for the last 2 years. I had serious plans for swapping it to a manual. But as time goes on, it's really grown on me. I think I'm going to wait until the Auto Trans gives out and then decide. Not everybody needs or wants to go through the gears. But still appreciate the power and handling of such a fun car. Great video! Thanks for making it.

@@Dustin-u1t I'm glad you enjoyed it! And cool story. The automatic does not detract everything from the car imo. If you change the auto trans fluid you will have to wait a while for it to give out. These are pretty stout too haha.

@@M-t3ch I completely agree. I changed the fluid about 3k ago (at 118k on the clock) It definitely smoothed out the shifting. I plan on keeping up with it. Because I have zero plans on letting this one go! Your point was spot on about buying and Auto. Like mine they tend to be in very good condition and well cared for. Thus making them an excellent buy. Put a power pulley kit on it with asc delete/ m50 manifold/injectors/intake.. it will rip fast from a stop... Mine was auto with all that plus a tune and full exhaust plus a bbtb.@@M-t3ch

People sleep on the auto M3! I love mine no tracking for it but it’s a good car to get around and now I’m doing some upgrades for more fun!

@@M-t3ch Definitely doesn't. If you want a fast car that shifts for you there are many modern cars that will outperform the e36 chassis. The 5HP swap simply makes it less of a driver's cr.

@robertfontaine3650 Not for under 8k like this owner bought one for. Consider it more from the perspective of someone who wants an e36 for the feel and experience. Yes the automatic is less car; but a manual in the same shape as this auto would have been 11k or more. When you get into nicer ones, the price gap is even more apparent. A 20k auto e36 m3 is what a 40k manual costs. At that price bracket, I'd consider an auto if I wanted to try a nice e36. All that said, I do prefer my manual and it is more fun!

Not necessarily sometimes people want something fast but the luxury of having an auto
