We got a chance to cram Andrew Collins into an Autozam AZ-1. It turns out, even if he could get out of this amazing KEI car, he doesn't want to.

Mispronounced Kei and doesn't know where the engine is from. It's from Suzuki, the Alto Works and Cappuccino, not a Mazda Carol engine, which is also a Suzuki engine BTW.

The engine doesn't come from the Mazda Carol. The Mazda Carol has the F6A, which is a Suzuki engine. It comes from the Suzuki Alto. The Autozam AZ-1 has the F6A-Turbo, which comes from the Suzuki Alto Works (also used in the Suzuki Cappuccino)

The main appeal of these kind of cars in Japan is that they are far cheaper to operate. They have special discounted yearly registration rates (normally quite high in Japan) as well as cheaper insurance. They are often driven by new and younger drivers. Getting a license is Japan is also quite expensive and the testing is fairly comprehensive so many hours of professional training may be required. A young driver thus may not have enough left in their budget for anything other than a kei car or a scooter.

The engine was developed by Suzuki and was in the Cappuccino, and the Honda Beat which became know as the ABC group. The engine was turbo charged which could be built up to rev up to 12k rpms. It was a perky little car. The Cappucino was in the Anime series Initial D.

@@Shinobi33 Good luck, you can barely get one under $20k now that isn't rusty or has other problems. There's nothing else in the world like it and never will be again because of what a horrible financial flop it was despite being a beloved car. Not enough people can appreciate a car that looks and feels faster than it is. You can get a Honda Beat for $10k-ish, though, that's a decent cope car.
