Neither push pull nor dual opposed subs are out of phase. To be out of phase, one driver cone would have to moving in when the other driver cone is moving out. The direction the drivers are facing is not what determines phase, it's the wiring. Out of phase drivers would significantly reduce the bass output as the waves would partially cancel out when they meet. Both push pull and dual opposed sub designs are used for force cancellation and reduced distortion. The push-pull sub cancels out non-linear motions from the front versus the back of the driver. Dual opposed cancels out the force on the cabinet from the movement of the 2 cones. Neither is going to have an effect on room modes. Alternatively, in an open baffle speaker, where both the front and back of the cone are open to the room, the front wave is out of phase with the back wave because the front of the driver is moving out while the back is moving in. The size and width of the open baffle determine the frequency at which the two waves meet and cancel. When the two waves meet, there is a cancellation, producing a null that does have an effect on room modes. Siegfried Linkwitz was a big proponent of open baffle bass as a more natural sounding bass, but even he recommended a sealed sub for use below 50Hz because the cancellation effect is pronounced at very low frequencies.

as nearfield subs what is the ideal sub ? even strenght with the front subs or stronger or weaker i have sb 2000pros in the front ? in my mind the sb 1000 pros are good for that or thinking i wrong ?
@jvonengeln
@jvonengeln 9 ай бұрын
So long as a SB1000pro won't limit your overall SPL levels you expect in your room? That's a question you can answer better than us. I use the same exact subwoofer for nearfield and run them with the same shelf filter (lifts the bottom end), I also run my nearfield subs about 1dB less than the front subs and that does enough to keep the "sound" coming from the front ofthe room. You can figure the rear subs probably have about 3-4 dB less playback demand than the front subs in my arrangement. (with 10-12' distance between them).
@speedygonzales343
@speedygonzales343 9 ай бұрын
@@jvonengeln thank you, my front is 9-10 feet away and the nearfield subs would be 2-3 feet behind me and my couch. i would use 2 subs behind me for a better feeling sound wise then a single sub. and the front have either 2 i think its a better mix then 3front 1 behind me.

Hi Guys - A daft question but does a full home theatre set up require burn in time ? I know with high end Audio they do suggest the amps /speakers take many hours to fully burn in. My Naim / Focal system definately opened up after running it for some time. Should you leave a cinema running for hours to open the system up from new ? I am having a full system installed from new
@Youthman
@Youthman 10 ай бұрын
Great question. No, simply turn it on and enjoy it. If there is a break in period (which I not subscribe to), it’s definitely not tens or even hundreds of hours before they do.
@jvonengeln
@jvonengeln 9 ай бұрын
I suggest that the break in period is nothing more than you getting used to the sound of the new system/speakers. Mechanically there is very little difference that happens outside of just a very short time of using a driver. The suspension does soften/losen every so little, but it doesn't take anywhere near hundreds of hours to do so.

Hey guys, thanks for the chat, hey, I'm trying to put together a stereo integrity hs24 package and I'm curious about amplification. I believe I'll go sealed, I bought an nx6000d but it was said it won't be powerful enough. I also have two crown xls 2100 amps. I'm wondering if you think I should buy another nx6000d and get a dual 4ohm sub. I could Also do the same withe the crowns. Other option is to attempt to find a way to purchase a sinbosen amp. And finally I could spend a ton on speaker power amp but is it worth it vs the others? Thanks guys
@jvonengeln
@jvonengeln 9 ай бұрын
Crowns with DSP have a HPF filter that can't be defeated at 20Hz. I wouldn't recommend a Crown (with DSP) for the 24" subwoofer sealed. In this case you might be better of pony'ing up for a SpeakerPower AMP, or looking for an old Iron CV5000 or XLS5000 amp on the used market. You can also look at the new CVR amps that are gaining traction over the clone and sinbosen amps. I don't know about reliability yet of the CVR, but I have some friends who bought them, so time will tell. You could also POSSIBLY find an older iNuke 12000 on the used market.

Jonathan is right. Don't run your subs hot. Use a house curve on the channels to run your bass hot.
@jvonengeln
@jvonengeln 9 ай бұрын
Making sure we are taking the same idea - If you run a house curve, and then max out the subwoofer system; the subwoofer will (at its limits) always revert back to its native frequency response (as it is with no EQ in the box). EQ only works when the sub has headroom. When you are out of headroom the frequency response reverts to its native frequency response.
@John-ok8ts
@John-ok8ts 9 ай бұрын
@@jvonengeln Yea I agree with this but this more applies to subs with DSP. I can't quite remember why I said this but I also think we should integrate subs with all our speakers to give a relatively flat response and then change the curve on the channels so it effects both speakers and sub the same - either REQ or even just tone controls. If you just just bump up the sub gain you are also effectively changing where it crosses over which is probably not what you want.

Sad I never make to these live shows since located in Finland, but I have listen every podcast so far! So has to ask my question here again! You talked about measurement mics before and measuring again today! I sold my Umik-1 when I got my Trinnov and its 3D mic.. Since that I learned that I still need that other mic too! So what was the story about this? Should I get Umik-1, Umik-2, Omnimic or was there something new coming up soon and I should wait for that?
@Youthman
@Youthman 10 ай бұрын
Jonathan loves the Onnimic. They are currently unavailable because they’re coming out with a version 2. It’s more expensive, but apparently it’s much simpler to use than REW. I have used REW and UMIK-1 or UMIK-2 when I’ve taken measurements. I am not familiar with Trinnov to know if their mic will allow you to see frequency response of the channels it measures in your system.

Verizon 2 is the one they will be releasing. You can see it on their website but you can’t actually purchase it yet - www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-OmniMic-V2-Acoustic-Measurement-System-390-792?quantity=1. That’s why it says “Currently Unavailable”

I thought the ht system was jtr for youthman, but I see a lot of arendal in pics. Which is it? Arendal is spending serious $ on advertising and my search history isn't helping, because i see ads constantly. I have a full psa 5.3.4 system but I am super tempted to change it up (for no reason other than different). Arendal is tempting...because I can't afford perlisten and even jtr would be a huge cost increase...location advantage on my end for that tho...which I found out AFTER I bought my psa front stage a few years back (pre buy when the speakers were launched)
