I named my daughter Brooklynn after falling in love with this song, and subsequently this band. I've been singing this song to my Brooklynn since she was still in the womb. She's 3.5 now and begs to hear "her song" all the time. She even sings along to it now.

To which I reply "no, but its got a catchy tune and some good feels." I had no idea who sang it and facebooked my friends to see if they knew. Now I know and am an instant fan. Love this song!!

“Three words that became hard to say, ‘I and Love and You.” I always liked the line poetically but I never really thought that would be me. 9 years later, now that I’ve been “dumbed down and numbed by time and age,” it applies in a way I didn’t expect. It’s not hard to say because of reluctance, it’s hard because I can’t feel it anymore…

I was going to get married to this song, but it didn't work out. I spent a lot of time resenting this song, and my resentment had nothing to do with the song itself. I introduced this song to my ex and we both, in our own way, fell in love with it. And even though we didn't work out, I think it's beautiful I was able to share something like this with someone. Sometimes, love doesn't work. There's too many obstacles, too many differences. That doesn't mean you stop trying, or that you give up. All it means is that, someone came along who meant a lot to you, and they left an impact on your life. And that should be cherished. And you should never give up on love.

I called off my own engagement last spring and I felt the same. I was so hurt and upset and couldn’t imagine how things had gone so wrong out of the blue after years together. I think this year I’m finally accepting that sometimes relationships just don’t work out but I should give future ones the same hope I gave my past one regardless and to enjoy the journey, appreciating what happened. Life is just unpredictable that way, but it’s still worth it.

Elena, I won't blow up 4 people's marriages with 6 children between them for a 22 year old bad mistake, she lives on a different continent and out of her life I will stay. I don't stay in communication, couldn't function day to day if I did. Now the only grand gesture I can offer is to leave her rear her kids in peace, she is ultimately happy and I guess that's her best gift she can give back to me. 'i won't be held responsible for my actions' if we meet later on in life in a retirement home I told her. She said 'ditto, world can go whistle then'. Anyway gestures grand or little, it is what it is, can't stop where my mind dreams. It transcends everything practical and the 5000 km's

My hands they shake, my head it spins Oh, Brooklyn, Brooklyn, take me in When at first I learned to speak I used all my words to fight With him and her and you and me Ah, but it's just a waste of time Yeah, it's such a waste of time That woman she's got eyes that shine Like a pair of stolen polished dimes She asked to dance, I said it's fine I'll see you in the morning time Oh, Brooklyn, Brooklyn, take me in Are you aware the shape I'm in? I can’t do it with this song right now! There are times I can and love it but right now the tears flowI have not heard those words from you in so long, not a hug, not an indication that you even ever think of me, miss me, or that I even exist. I do not reach out because I have tried to give you space and time, but time goes on and then I don’t know what to say to you and when we speak I try to honestly answer the questions you have full knowing of the disappointment I will here in your voice. Fixing things is hard work and does occur on other’s timetables which can be hard to understand but our choices are not always the choices of others and we are not here to judge but to seek to understand the best we can.

My son used to sing this to his daughter as a very young toddler. I did not know this or the band or song. He passed away at 37 from an unproven incident ! I do not know how this in so many ways describes him and her thru his shortened life! We played this for her at almost 16 yrs old and she cried and cried. Only two songs affected her this way. She is very private and she could not hold back. I as his Mom loved it as it described him so well with shaking hands and a mind that spins ! He was scared when his son was born that he would never please people involved but his daughter and we were unconditional in his love for them. He has been gone over a year now and it feels like a nightmare for us but we know he is in a better place but we are still thinking of how to pursue this with anyone of power to even care. So sad that there are people that are so lazy and uncaring to do their job. We had a Life Celebration and so many people came he was very loved He was so smart, in gifted and talented was a trained carpenter and millwright but had a Gypsy lifestyle loved people of all kinds a loved his children . Thank you forever for this song for her it will stay with her and I forever!

Jasinda Wilder brought me here. Definitely recommend her book, Falling Into You. Warning though, it's incredibly sad, but a perfect example of losing someone and figuring out how to live with that pain.

Have you ever heard "Dear McCracken" by Bug Hunter? I highly suggest navigating there and finding another song that you truly enjoy more when you've been through some stuff.

My parents used to be big fans and now these songs are so nostalgic to me. I went to concerts with my family and owned so many shirts, but after my brother was old enough to play sports they stopped listing to music. It’s only podcast now

I'm split from the love of my life right now. I hope every day that it's just temporary, I've never met anyone like her in my life. The last time I saw The Avetts in concert was with her, and I don't think I could see them again without her. I love you so much Amy.
