I can only imagine what it was like in the early years of aviation. This song takes me to that time and I can see the metal aircraft with piston engine soaring higher and higher, pushing the limits. Such a beautiful and dangerous time - many of them died. They died doing what they loved, at the razors edge of human existence between life and death.

It might sound a little far fetched, but I first heard this song in 2015, within the first month of taking the controls of a little CRJ for the first time. Just stumbled upon this version today, as I was packing my things to operate a 747 flight out across the Pacific. It's a powerfully inspiring song to listen to, and in equal parts uplifting and nostalgic.

its cringe that only NOW have i discovered HJL -after BILLIONS have already. My attraction to this music is as instant as when i saw THE PIANO in the 1990s and honestly never since. i do get one point for feeling when i heard on a classical radio station in the car --that the melody and compelling arrangement FELT FILMIC to me--so alright --fantastic vibed that the was no ordinary composition. PHEW! BUT lets also be amazed at the scope of her work and also --not enough to be THIS artistic but apparently a TRI ATHLETE. So grateful to have "discovered" tho clearly from movies and commercials i have heard pieces. but it was just a minute on the radio i took out a pen and wrote down the name of the piece "chance" and composer to look up later. i have not felt the need to do that in many years. This is genius talent i have heard a LOT of classical having grown up doing ballet. i LOVE these pieces!
