This was our annual song in high school chorus. Every year, we ended our spring concert with this song, and all of our alumni were invited to come up and sing. We would be spilling off the risers, into the aisles. Our teacher has since retired, but this will always make me think of her, and of how powerful music really is.

That’s amazing. I can feel the power of this comment. This song holds a special place in my heart too, I sang it at my first ever choir concert, and by a stroke of luck, got a solo in the beginning of it. Nervous as I was, I did really good and got the attention of a college choir director whose son-in-law was singing with me. Needless to say, he asked me to join his choir when I got to college, and I did. It’s been a fantastic time

WHAT!? I love this so much. Hands down my favorite song from high school choir….and we only sang it once. I’d kill to have sung this every year and be able to go back as an alumni to sing again!!!

I love this idea. How powerful and moving to have such a constant impact on her singers. We are planning on singing this song this fall as part of our inaugural concert for a new community choir ensemble here in Sioux Falls! I'm so excited I can hardly contain it!!!🎉

I did as well. This will always be my favorite choral piece. We had such a good teacher i honestly feel our group did it better. I often wonder what Mr. Gauge is up to now.

We're singing this for our spring concert this year and I absolutely love the soprano part. My choir teacher caught me singing the soprano one part to my friends and decided that me an alto, should be moved to soprano two.

In my senior year of high school, our choir teacher learned there were to be cuts to the music program in favor of sports, so she had us sing this in our spring concert as a message.

I agree with you, but I think the women’s part works well enough in this arrangement. Especially in the “no birds sang”, “that every song… withered” parts. Adds a touch of eeriness to it and I think it’s really nice. Some of the tenor and bass chords sound empty/incomplete on their own, in my opinion
