Wind tunnel is the only answer at this point I think. (at least once all the body/aero is on the car as it's final form is going to be... This iteration's at least anyway 😜)
@rigorigo8229
@rigorigo8229 Жыл бұрын
My non-engineered youtube science says most of the dust kick-up is just the rear diffuser. Doing exactly what it should; what is missing is the rest of the ground aero. WIth how important aerodynamics are, this should be the focus for Rob. Making sure all those holes inside get covered so the air is going over and under. Right now I imagine the inside is just causing so much drag. Wheels need more aero to remove dirty air as well. With a focus on aero and then tuning the car, it would be easier to deal with. Tuning a car now seems like learning how to tune a parachute full of air. ~I made this comment before the ending of the vid where Rob even mentions aero. Love all your videos Rob, been watching very early on. Happy you are sharing this journey with the rest of us.

@shrerd1894; clearly You lack the proper basics about electrical, digital signals, wiring, etc. A. The variations, spikes with the digital speed sensor are clearly clean, stable until much higher speeds -> thus clearly NOT an issue with any interference ! B. Thus, clearly, obviously, certain the issue is intermittent connection at higher speeds, RPM 1. The first area to check are the connections, connectors from the wires of the sensor(s), which are vulnerable to the vibrations, due to higher RPM and wind speeds,. 2. The next is to verify the wires inside the sensor and sensor itself - this should have shown up with proper high speed testing on the dynometer, but perhaps they did not operate the vehicle at these higher RPM speeds 3. Also the actual higher speed driving, especially on this aircraft runway, has additional variations, vibrations, along with the high speed air flow during very high speed travel as this 4. For these reasons, basis, poper planning, connectors, connections, wiring, sensors must be proper, carefully selected, chosen, wired, installed as those within aircraft, high speed vehicles as F1, Indy, NASCAR, NHRA/IHRA/PDRA, others 5. typical "Trial & Error" process among the amateurs, novice, platform-video producers, including many which modify, build performance level vehicles, many for drag, track, other racing but not trained properly,lack the proper knowledge, especially within safety are extremely common and should be clear, obvious to humans with proper basic thinking as examples of "what NOT to do"-"NOT follow", don't do as they do with their mistakes, errors, claims etc. All The Best

There was something very wholesome about this video. Really enjoyed it, especially the 1st half covering the road trip and early stages of the event. I wonder if not having the rear window in place is messing up the air around the wing. Is there a reason the rear window is missing? With this much power some time in a wind tunnel might not be a bad idea. Love your videos Rob. It’s been a real pleasure watching your journey unfold.

Clearly You lack the obvious, clear issue with intermittent, quickly varying voltage as seen in the ECU data and on the speedometer !! The issue is clearly NOT limits with the speed sensor, else it would have reached its upper voltage limit and either remained [as would be expected] or alternatively with a poor design dropped to zero !! Another individual with simple lacking of the basics with electricity, electrical voltage, sensor outputs, ECU data. Goo Luck, All The Best, Sincerely

@@newtonfirefly3584 Perhaps instead of being condescending, try being constructive. And instead of putting people down try engaging in a discussion. If we apply some logic to the situation it is apparent that all 4 wheel speed sensors are reading all over the place. That tells me it is unlikely to be a single sensor that is bad and even less likely for it to be a wiring issue such as chaffed wires. Now as far as my understanding goes the wheel speed sensors are putting out pulses which are read by the ECU. Those pulses could be coming fast enough that capacitance in the wiring attenuates the pulses enough that the ECU has trouble accurately reading them. Or it could be that the sensors are not capable of reading a trigger wheel going that fast. Seeing as I do not have the model number of the wheel speed sensors, and I don't have the time to look for it in the videos, I will elect to just speculate.

@@ryanhebron4287 Ryan Hebron, clearly You have trouble differentiating between criticism, conveying proper information and condescending. My comments are directed to those like You to be aware of the nonsense Rob Dahm presents, does and proceeds with including the disregard for his own safety, life and those around him that he affects along with those that are easily influenced. Already have attempted many comments directed specifically to Rob Dahm, including with specific suggestions as contacting FuelTech, Anderson Dick, Luis and their dedicated rotary expert, but he continues to proceed within his mindset, arrogance, etc., refusing to make any effort. In addition, Your ideas about what You describe as "pulses" clearly indicates Your basic lacking with electrical voltages, voltage variations, voltage sensor outputs along with the clear indications, comparison which Rob shows in this video and at least comprehends somewhat about the possible issues, which You clearly have no idea, concept or clue, but Your self-proclaimed imagined, contrived nonsense. If You will ever gain the basics about electricity, electrical voltages, as the simple DC variations from sensor outputs, then You may begin to possibly comprehend the possible, simple causes as inn my descriptions. My basic knowledge form my first basic electricity course within 8th Grade IE, 50 years ago, is enough to comprehend, assess, evaluate, differentiate, discern, thus troubleshoot, determine the cause of the clearly noticeable problem. Certainly my further development is just more extensive into proper design, development, etc. Your idea clearly indicates Your lacking with basic information about the sensors, voltage outputs, standards, etc. Good Luck within Your ignorance. Weird, I don't think it would be an aerodynamic problem considering its only one side of the car doing the wobble. Your car is pretty much mirrored underneath I would imagine, so I would try fixing the sensor problems first. Kind of reminds me of the F1 porpoising problem they had for a while. Downforce increases to a point where it stalls out, then goes back up and repeats.

It may be worth adding a lowpass filter on the wheelspeed sensors if it is only noise on those speed curves. That would be a fast way to eliminate that issue before trying to address the cause of it.

Two theoretical things here, would having a rear window in place help clean up the air? Also, I wonder if a carbon shark fin, similar to what you'd find on the AMG One, or the Jesko, help keep the car straight at high speeds. Would be cool to see one integrated into the rear window, should you go plexiglass (with F40 style vents 😊).

For towing buy a couple sets of "axle tie down straps". You can wrap them around the tires (or axle) pretty easy without damage to wheels or straps. Minimum of 24" length. If you want the ultimate no hassle strap search "strapinno" retractable ratchet straps with the snap hook option. It will cut your strap setup time by 80%. No more rats nest of straps when not in use or in transit.

Congratz on the new PB/record! I'm wondering if you have a traction control issue due to front/rear tire diameter expansion variations at high speeds. Can you see the mph speed of the front axles vs. rear axles in the logs? Are you running 555R's on front and rears or slicks? I'm sure you'll fix all the issues. Looking forward to your next videos

Congrats Rob! I'm glad you made one of the best custom vehicles of last and this decade in the World! Now it's time to make the car aero stable at high speeds. You need to create more downforce. The car is loosing contact with the ground, that's why the car is dancing after 160 and your traction and stability control is going crazy. Look at what the Lotus 78 and 79 F1 cars did for reference for more downforce without much drag penalty. Stay safe! Cheers!

Man, I had an '06 Hawkeye STI that would speed wobble on decel that was absolutely terrifying. Watching the onboard camera angle instantly brought back some "OH SHIT!" memories. It's unsettling to say the least. Mine was caused by the rear passenger side wheel bearing being shot and having a bunch of rolling resistance on it. The wheel bearing didn't have any wobble or play in it, it just didn't roll well. It took forever to figure that out.

The last shot of the car pulling away was a spitting image of the hoonicorn in prime condition. It’s so amazing seeing the four rotor embody its inspiration so well after all these years of hard work. Fantastic job you guys, can’t wait to see more!!

I would recommend installing wheel speed sensors on each wheel in addition to a ground speed sensor to tune the traction control system. Data collection and analysis will help improve the performance of the car at this point in your build.

A better way to do the straps is to run it from the front of the trailer across the face of the rear wheel, loop it around the back side of the tire (above the hub) then back around the face of the wheel and down to a point on the tire to the rear of the trailer. I was taught this technique by a Group B mechanic. It prevents the strap from rubbing on anything abrasive or touching your paint and works on cars with no tie down hooks. It can be a little tricky on cars with really tight fender clearances like the 4 rotor but should still be feasible. I typically do it to one rear wheel and one front wheel on opposite sides.

10:56 see the Speedo jump up & down. As you said, gotta figure out the wheel speed issue. I remember seeing wheel wobble on one of your old dyno vids. Perhaps check that out. Nice runs. Keep it up!
