In 1990, Charles Martinet auditioned to be the voice of Mario and, well, the rest is history. But today, we aren't talking about his two decade long career as the italian plumber. We're talking about the audition itself and how Martinet aced it.

Imagine. You've spent months preparing for your role as mario. You've been eating lotsa spaghetti and making sure you know that all toasters, toast toast. You ran, jumped, even screamed like Mario. This was gonna be your big break And then you get beaten by a man who randomly wanders into the room and thinks he's called 'mehrio'

Some of my favorite examples of voice actors voicing different characters you wouldn't expect is that Yuri Lowenthal plays Ben 10, Mercury from RWBY, Sasuke from Naruto, and Marth, Eliwood, Merric, and Ricken from the Fire Emblem series, another is Cristina Vee who Voices Marinette/Ladybug from Miraculous but also voices Shantae from the Shantae games as well as several Fire Emblem characters, and finally, the fact that Leonard Nimoy, the actor who played Spock on Star Trek voiced Master Xehanort, the main villain of the Kingdom Hearts series

What I always enjoy is hearing one of my favorite actors (including anime voice actors) voice acting for a different character. It gives me this nice nostalgic feeling, something similar to how it feels when you meet with a very close friend whom you haven't seen in a long time (like, 5+ years). It feels so... I dunno.. how do I describe it.... it feels.. ... Meaningful! Exactly! It feels fulfilling and meaningful. I totally love it. (Hmmmm... yanno, I'm thinking maybe I'm blowing this a bit out of proportion.. that feeling isn't nearly so intense just for this, but it's as close as I can get to an accurate description). Even if I'm wrong and it's not the same guy's voice, I still get that same nostalgic happy feeling. I'll give you a recent example. I was watching Black Clover recently and I'm pretty sure that Asta's inner demons voice is Gajeel from fairytale ;)

In Poland we have two translations of Duck Tales and most people like the first version more, and complain about the second one. I'm not one of these people, because I saw the newer version first. In the newer version all characters except Duckworth the Butler where voiced by new actor, but most importantly Scrooge had new voice, because previous actor passed away. I actually liked new voice more. Now, in Polish translation of 2017 Duck Tales, Scrooge is voiced by new actor again, and this actor is son of Scrooge's first voice actor and sounds the same. I think it's cool and hope fans of first translation of original show likes it.

Dee Bradley Baker also voiced the clones for Star Wars animation stuff. And Mako makes me sad. He was the original voice of Iroh from ATLA and one of the episodes has him singing a song about going away. In show it’s about his son but it was actually the last thing he recorded before he died of cancer.

Dee Bradley Baker literally voiced all the animals on Avatar the last airbender and legend of Korra, along with probably hundreds of bit parts on various cartoons and video games. Dee Bradley Baker voiced most of our generations childhoods at some point.

Frank Welker's roles are extremely varied, he voices Megatron but then he's also Scooby Doo and Curious George... I find this hilarious.

My favorite pair of mismatched character voices is Dante Basco as both Prince Zuko and Jake Long. He actually sounds relatively the same for both, so I'm disappointed that I've never seen a video of the two of them reading each other's lines. Imagine the angsty Fire Nation Prince talking like a kid from NYC in the early 2000s, saying things like "yo what's up dawg" and "that's off the CHAIN, yo!" Second place is Brock from Pokemon and Seto Kaiba being the same guy, but one just sounds a little angrier.

The voice of Optimus Prime is iconic. The guy auditioned the same as everyone else every time and he has stayed the same throughout all the cartoons and live action movies.

Speaking of people who voice two characters you wouldn't think to connect, Rolf from Ed, Edd, and Eddy is voiced by the same person who did Goku's voice in the English dub of DBZ.

My favorite thing about Aku is that the voice actor that does his voice was also everyone's favorite Uncle Iroh from Avatar the Last Airbender

Just watched your "Killer Whales Elbow-Dropping Blue Whales" video, and you should so do one about Killer Whales and that fishing village in Alaska. The Killer Whales used to assist the whaling ships when they hunted Minky whales back in the 1800's and they did it for decades, funnelling the adult Minky whales into the middle of the whaling fleets and eating their babies after the parents were harpooned. And the Killer whales used to hang out around the coast all the time like them and the Minky hunters were buddies. Then in like the 1920's, there were no more Minky whales left, and the whaling fleet instead of returning empty handed, killed some killer whales instead. From that day, to now, the Killer whales don't go near that village any more, and it is the only place in the world where they attack and harass ships coming out of that one bay. They been passing down not only the information, but a mother-fucking blood feud, to their great-great grandchildren somehow. THAT would make an awesome episode man.

I know this is old, but I’d have to say that Christopher Lee had one of the most distinct voices in cinema history, and would be the hardest to find a replacement at the same level.
