The year 1066 was a major milestone in the history of England. Most British schools teach the story of the battle but for those not in the know, let's talk about how the Norman's hilariously defeated King Harold and his army.

a. The majority of the army were peasants who joined at the back of the well trained soldiers which were quite few ( so they probably threw the rocks) b. The normans were retreating at first and then realised it was breaking their ranks c. The reason the ranks were important and the normans ran was because England had a huge shield wall c. Remember the English had just come back for a huge battle in the North with a man named Harold Hadrada before speed marching to the south of the country to fight the duke of Normandy who had not fought yet and had had time to prepare D. The duke of Normandy had more higher trained troops than Harold Godwinson in the form of cavalry

Their secret technique consists of carefully and quickly retreating from the opponent, while keeping a close eye on surroundings for things to use to defeat or assist in defeating them. To the untrained eye, it looks like the Normans are simply running away like cowards, augmented by their panicked shouting when doing so. They will also use this technique to try to lure an enemy away from others.

i'm just going to say that the English (Anglo-Saxons)were at a disadvantage as other then the centre of huscarls, the army were pretty mediocrity trained whist the Normans were well trained and experienced due to years of civil wars. the Normans were also well rested unlike the angles who had been forced marched from York after a battle against the Norwegian. despite this, the high ground was quite a good idea

+Cah H I could be wrong, but I believe one of the reasons the english lost Hastings was because they didn't wait for the fyrd, the peasant militia, to mobilize. They just used their professional soldiers. One of the examples in history when superior numbers could have carried the day.
@banjoskeleton8399

I just want Cal h to understand that the Norman invasion didn't rely much on peasants, if at all. Now, of course the army had peasants, but the fact is that shipping an army, all their gear and essentially flat pack castles across the channel is not easy. So why would you add an untrained army of peasants? William's troops were in general better trained men. The gear may have been similar but William had an army who could fight and Harold had an elite group and a small group of farmers.

Maul may have had the high ground in Ep 1 for a brief period, but Obi-Wan does jump up and over Maul, effectively having the highest high ground in the fight, which is why he won. Cannot believe this isn't common knowledge >:( (Jk EP1 was a shit show)
@Gazza2764
@Gazza2764 6 жыл бұрын
Probably because Obi-Wan needed to kill Maul and if the movie had Maul fighting as he supposedly would (see the Clone Wars as an example) he would have probably bested Padawan Obi-Wan. That and I think its explained as Maul being cocky and seeing Obi-Wan as trivial, not expecting him to attack. But mainly its down to Movie Plot (imo)

Hyper-space was just for plot convenience but as Star Wars grew they had to try and create consistent rules for it but it just turned into a puss-bubble of magic trying to be science and the Last Jedi decided they were going to strike it with a pick-axe by centering the entire movie around it. Like the Interdictor ships which can pull ships out of hyperspace and stop them from entering hyper space but are almost never used.

And Leia's face in rogue one was not as bad as Tarkin. It was okay for the small amount of time it was on. Tarkin on the other hand was just horrible and was extremely fake, and he had more screen time than Leia.

11:40 Yeah, Holdo and the others had no idea on how they were being tracked through lightspeed (because of course Poe was a genius and did not tell them). For all they knew there could have been a spy on the ship and if that is the case then they cannot risk telling anyone the plan. And then guess what? The New Order gets hold of the information anyways and slaughters a shitton of the resistance just because Poe wouldn't shut up.

Poe didn't tell her because Holdo also straight didn't say shit about her "great" plan to get to salt hoth.

And I litterally just explained why she did not do that and why she had every reason not to tell him. She was a higher ranking officer holding confidential information. That is how rank works. Meanwhile Poe had very valuable information about the enemy but did not share it with his superiors because she was a bit mean to him. That is moronic. Like "oh, I WOULD share you this information that could help our survival and ensure that we don't lose even more thousands of resistance members, but you were mean so I am not going to". Honestly that plus the starting scene of the movie where he gets even more people killed for disobeying orders honestly just gives Holdo even more reason not to trust him.

Rank isn't a big deal during the escape from imminent death part of things. Also Poe should have been given a hint or at least a small bone for destroying Death Star 3.0 (Starkiller Base.)

I'm with you too man. I didn't think it was an amazing movie, but it was a fun star wars movie. To me, it's an improvement on the prequels (or at least AOTC). With all the changes and 'updates' (mistakes) to the canon and lore of SW (along with the numerous discontinued story arcs) , I can see why the hardcore fans dislike this new trilogy and its direction tho. 343 Industries is doing it to the Halo franchise. But for the average movie goer, this really isn't that bad.

Don’t feel bad for liking any movie, RotJ was my favourite Star Wars movie and it’s far from the best. The Space battle and throne room scenes make up for it’s shortcomings like Ewoks in my mind. The last Jedi just left me empty, I’ve no excitement for any more Star Wars movies or other content, I didn’t bother to watch Solo and probably won’t see episode 9. I’m not angry like some people I just don’t care about Star Wars anymore. It’ll be very interesting to see how episodes 9 does.

Honestly, Leia force flying through space was among the least stupid things in Last Jedi in my opinion. I can see that being a viable thing happening in Star Wars. No, what I found stupid was Rose simply existing, the fact that the entire second act was completely pointless, the several blatant middle fingers to Star Wars fans throughout the film, Snoke getting killed so easily, and how we were supposed to root for Holdo despite her being such an unlikable character. I'm sorry, but if Episode 9 isn't completely amazing or at the very least completely retcon Last Jedi by having Rey wake up from a bad dream, I'm going to consider this entire new trilogy non canon.

@ sev Stop downplaying it. TLJ did not have only 2 or 3 average issues "all movies" have. If Gandalf would have been flying right back up like Superman after falling down at the bridge of Khazad Dum you would have a point. If Alfred in the Dark Knight had a scene in which he milked the balls of a sea lion, you would have a point. But since both is not the case, you obviously haven't.

The light-speed is something Star Trek actually had thought of with their torpedoes, with the photon torpedoes actually having their own "warp-sustainers" allowing them to be to be warp-capable.

In “romance of the three kingdoms” there are instances where generals win with the high ground but also lose. Being encircled and starved out, preventing them from escaping I believe.
@siriuslywastaken
@siriuslywastaken 6 жыл бұрын
Actually in a duel the high ground is a disadvantage, you have to reach further to hit your opponent than they do to hit you if you're on elevated ground above them, giving the enemy a very large advantage. In an actual battle groups on soldiers fighting on top of a hill (with a mostly level top) actually was a good idea though, because they could all make a circle formation around the top of the hill, forcing their opponents to come up the hill to the soldiers and fight them there, polearms like halberds would grant you a massive advantage in a formation like that.
