That guitar riff is too much. I can not stand still. These guys belong in The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
@101Volts Жыл бұрын
@@kevinlong5392 The guitar riff, and the guitar for the whole song, doesn't move from frets 3 and 5. It's just open notes, and notes on the 3rd and 5th frets. Though Ricky *did* use one of his oddball tunings, EBDxBB, which omits the G string. And according to Keith Strickland, RIcky also played this on a cheap Silvertone 1448, made by Danelectro. I know for sure that Ricky played it on the 1448 for shows in 1979, but this studio recording doesn't quite sound right for it to be a 1448, so I'm not sure what to say here. Maybe it was recorded with one of Ricky's 4 Mosrite models instead. Don't put the Silvertone 1448 down for being cheap and still remaining cheap on the market, I own one. It's a great sounding guitar, just replace the tuners (if problematic) and saddle. Take a new 1 piece wood saddle, and cut it into 3 (one for each 2 string slots,) and then you can adjust it properly for intonation. There's a guitar tab (how to play chart) for this song which I wrote, and it's over at Ultimate Guitar.

Go listen to "There's a Moon In the Sky (Called the Moon)" or "6060-842" and come back. Or "Runnin' Around." Mind that Ricky has his own style and techniques, he *was* playing guitar but he changed the approach (and string gauges) just enough to sound unique. He often omitted the G and High E strings and put an extra B string in the High E slot. There's more to it than that, early on he also played Mosrite Guitars and a Danelectro and an Epiphone Import. None of these were costly at the time, but they weren't chintzy, either. He did start using Fenders live in 1982, but the amplifier change at the time ruined their live sound IMHO.

(Edit: If I'm understanding this straightly,) The B-52s, in their earliest songs, aren't _that_ serious. They just played, and didn't think they'd make it big. The thing is, their early sound died quickly because they followed advice to move from Athens to New York "because no one works in Athens." Once they did, the sound died. It's not just Ricky's death that did it, that was 5 years later; their 1981 - 85 material is _not_ the same as the first 2 albums. Edit 2: Mind, this was in the late 70s and early 80s. No internet like it is in 2023, clearly. I don't know if working from Athens could have worked out or not. Maybe Ricky wouldn't have died so soon if they hadn't moved to New York area.

Enero 1982. Valle Hermoso (Córdoba, Argentina). Vacaciones. "The B-52's (intérprete)" completa mi información.

How can you ever say this on KZbin? There’s so much now
@Joseph-z7s3b8 ай бұрын
@@kruggsmash True. KZbin is an endless "c.d. changer..." But here's where the mourning begins... 98% of what I seek out and actually enjoy 100% of the time is primarily "old" music. For someone who listens to music nearly all day everyday, I RARELY find something new that has the divine spark of magic. It's not necessarily a matter of what kind of music I prefer. I listen to everything from DEPECHE MODE to DEICIDE... from the GRATEFUL DEAD to the DEAD KENNEDY'S. So how is it that most of the new music defies physics insomuch that it sucks and blows simultaneously? Just an old man shouting questions at the clouds...

It's a legit complaint. However, my brother was saying exactly the same things in the early 1970s, mourning the lesser popularity of James Taylor, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The early death of the great Janis Joplin. The breakup of the Beatles a couple o years later, the tragic loss of Jimi Hendrix. It's cyclical. 80's music, "punk rock" disco, etc. were very different, more techno than classical pop rock. It was hard on the ears, very edgy. But it was the evolution, the way the money ship drove things in those days. I remember the Aja album by Steely Dan, Pink Floyd's "The Wall" Too many others to mention, all listenable, enjoyable today. With digital music it doesn't matter when it was recorded. So much of it was epic. I does not get old or stale, although my older brother never saw it as anything but commercial trash. He had hundreds of vinyls. I do not think he ever bought any music after 1975. Maria Maldaur, in the early 80's.

@@rileyalt1251 As well as Television, The Clash and so many others. Unfortunately it's not just music that has become mindless junk food. Movies and television as well. Remember Taxi? Not because it's too costly,(which it is) but because if wanted to see trash I'd go to the dump. But hey,at least modern movies make a lot of money in China. What a joke. I'm glad to say that this song charted very well in Australia, reaching #11. We were the first region in the world to shoot Rock Lobster to #1 on the charts, even though Wiki says it reached #3. Our music TV show Countdown, which was the Bible of Pop Culture in Australia, placed Rock Lobster at #1 for multiple weeks. So, their record company organised a Concert Tour Downunder in the Winter of 1980. They played material from their 2nd album " Wild Planet" I remember they got a very good response to " Gimme Back My Man". I've been to a gazillion shows, but that was absolutely the best show I have ever seen in my lifetime of many many shows. They were on fire. Ricky was still alive. The girls were stunningly beautiful frankly, and the dancing and theatrics of their "characters" were out of this world. Their creativity is once in a century creativity. Others who were at that Berkeley show were awestruck at their talents of pulling you into their world. We left that show wondering what just happened to the world. The dancing was absolutely phenomenal. I mention this against the backdrop of having gone to a prep school in the late 70's and into 1980 in Stony Brook New York where I walked into a dance party and this song came on-- MY GAWD it wasn't just me, but everyone in earshot was on the floor dancing to this 8th wonder of the world music that was pumping through the loudspeakers. They captured the fun of an entire generation.

Yes Jason, I agree with you. The difference is that The B-52s and DEVO produced their music and art organically. There is nothing contrived, manufactured or fabricated about them. They are natural and real.
