I cant believe how heavy they are. After all this time knowing them as the "Rock Lobster" band, I'm finally realizing how much grit they actually had. Amazing vocals and musicianship. Live performances were done so well, it was like ordered chaos. Their beats make you jump and mosh, while grooving along with surf rock influences.
@SenileOtaku4 жыл бұрын
Then there were a couple other bands to come out of Athens GA after them that would take the bass and percussion even further. First was Pylon (saw them twice, once opening for Gang of Four in NYC, then I met them at the Left Bank a year later). After that was 'Oh OK', with bass, drums and vocals. It was backstage at the Left Bank show where also met the B-52s themselves. Was just surprising how much shorter Kate was without the beehive.

I still vividly remember hearing this song for the first time. I was sitting in line at the bank's drive thru back in 1979 waiting my turn, when this song, a sound I had never heard before, came on the rock and roll radio station. I was instantly blown away and had to crank it up, hoping the car in line in front of me didn't leave before the song was over. The first and last time I heard it on the radio. Not sure why the B-52's never got the wide recognition they so deserved.

In 1982 I was a brand new infantryman with the mighty 501st. It was the 1st parachute infantry regiment in the Army. So I was a wee bit up[tight and wanted to do well and/or fit in.. My roommate was a PFC. It was after duty hours the 1st time I met him & he had a Plasmatics t-shirt on. He popped in Wild Planet or whatever the name of the album was and was the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

What's always been interesting to me about this song is that the first lyric (Where's my telephone?) makes way more sense in the years after the song's release than it did in the late '70s when it was written. They didn't even have cordless phones back then yet! So why'd Fred have trouble finding his telephone that's stuck on the same wall it's always on? 🤣

@SenileOtaku2 жыл бұрын
Not all telephones were wall-mounted. You could have had your Model 500 or Princess telephone sitting on a table. From maybe the 1930's up until the 1970's they use a 4-pin plug (type 404a?), then in the 70's moved to the RJ-11 we see now. So if they *did* have a "Party out of Bounds" as @Christopher Martin suggests, it could have been moved. There, some useless trivia for a Tuesday morning...

Linguists! What’s it called when Fred throws that extra syllable into the word strobe? “Underneath the strow…BUH-LITE?” (Like the way some folks add a syllable to the word athlete and say ath-uh-lete? Maybe? Or is that a bad example because “stro-buh-lite” adds a consonant and “ath-a-lete” adds a vowel? Or bc one is within a single word and the other joins two separate words?)
