He's another one who had a unique, EXCELLENT rock voice... I was fortunate enough to have seen him twice - once with The Babys, opening for Foreigner and Ted Nugent in the mid 70s, and once as a solo artist, opening for Peter Frampton and Journey, in the early 2000s. Both times, he was flawless, live.

No lip syncing..no auto tune..just pure, real talent.

nope, this is lip synced, at least most of it... it seems Waite's vocals may be the real deal... but I still loved the Babys

It's ALL the original recording except for John who is singing live. Everything else...Memorex (or more likely Ampex)

This one of the most underrated bands of the 70 / 80 era. What a tear jerking song.... Met him.. Nicest down to earth guy you would ever meet

I rocked the 70's and 80's and they were completely different vibes going on baby boomers vs baby making burn outs?

Take me back to hanging on a street corner as a teenager in queens, no cell phone, no computers, but we always seemed to meet up and hang out. Rock and roll, fast car, cold beer and no drama.

Like this song, like this guy...He's hung in there pretty well. Around 2006 he did a "Missing You" duet w/Allison Krauss that did well on country top 40. IMHO this "Midnight Special" performance was really "Special" because of the backup singers...they were great. Annie Bertucci (the redhead) is an accomplished and talented performer on her own, she kicked butt on this song, a big plus for this performance.

I saw the Babys in 1979 or 1980. I don't think they had any female vocalists at all touring with them at that time, and they were missed. This was a great record. The extra production sold the song. When it was stripped down for live performance, it lost something.

Good song. This version is especially so because of Annie Bertucci and the other backup singer, Melanie Chartoff or Mrs Demore or Patti Scialfa or whoever she is. Also, the delightfully classic 70's dancing couple, love the metallic-ball-cap-suspenders-with-no-shirt look.
@homebuiltindoorplane8 жыл бұрын
+Joe Herald Thats Chrissie Faith. Melanie started on Fridays Tv show.
@joeherald73198 жыл бұрын
homebuiltindoorplane Thanks. I knew Melanie was on "Fridays" Some have said this was her. I've been trying to ID this singer. Did Ms Faith sing with Annie regularly?
@LeftCoastBias448 жыл бұрын
+homebuiltindoorplane... Once again, I respectfully disagree. Chrissie Faith has sung backup for many acts, but this isn't her. Still trying to verify that it really IS Melanie Chartoff...
@homebuiltindoorplane8 жыл бұрын
+LeftCoastBias44 No, I checked, and its common knowledge. Melanie Chartoff never played with the Babies, never. And you can CLEARLY see that this is Chrissie Faith. But hey man, lots of people are still looking for Elvis too. So knock yourself out dude:) Thanks
