He's another one who had a unique, EXCELLENT rock voice... I was fortunate enough to have seen him twice - once with The Babys, opening for Foreigner and Ted Nugent in the mid 70s, and once as a solo artist, opening for Peter Frampton and Journey, in the early 2000s. Both times, he was flawless, live.

Like this song, like this guy...He's hung in there pretty well. Around 2006 he did a "Missing You" duet w/Allison Krauss that did well on country top 40. IMHO this "Midnight Special" performance was really "Special" because of the backup singers...they were great. Annie Bertucci (the redhead) is an accomplished and talented performer on her own, she kicked butt on this song, a big plus for this performance.

I saw the Babys in 1979 or 1980. I don't think they had any female vocalists at all touring with them at that time, and they were missed. This was a great record. The extra production sold the song. When it was stripped down for live performance, it lost something.

Good song. This version is especially so because of Annie Bertucci and the other backup singer, Melanie Chartoff or Mrs Demore or Patti Scialfa or whoever she is. Also, the delightfully classic 70's dancing couple, love the metallic-ball-cap-suspenders-with-no-shirt look.

+homebuiltindoorplane... Once again, I respectfully disagree. Chrissie Faith has sung backup for many acts, but this isn't her. Still trying to verify that it really IS Melanie Chartoff...
