The Babys are a British rock group best known for their songs "Isn't It Time" and "Every Time I Think of You". Both songs were composed by Jack Conrad and Ray Kennedy, and each reached No. 13 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 8 on the Cashbox chart in the late 1970s. The original Babys line-up consisted of founding member keyboardist/guitarist Michael Corby, and, in order of joining the group, vocalist/bassist John Waite, drummer Tony Brock, and guitarist Wally Stocker.

@@hurtlockerr8661 "under-rated" does sound a touch awkward here, referencing The Babys. In a few years I'll likely see a video of "Gimme Shelter" and some 12 year old will Like it and comment "Dude! Those Stones guys were so under-rated man!".

Wrong! Just because you did not know about The Babys or John Waite does not mean they are "underrated". Infact, the Babys were huge back in the day! John Waite later created a very successful solo career during the 80's before being part of the supergroup, Bad English. In other words, he is hardly an underrated singer! He is very well known! You just don't know better!

Has anyone heard what John Waite sings/says at the very, very end of this song, just as it fades out? You won't hear it on this version, but you can hear it on the original recording and a few videos on KZbin. I won't reveal the answer here - you'll have to find it on your own - but let's just say that John leaves nothing to the imagination about what he Really wants to do with the girl he's singing about.

Sure did. (Censors MIA?). Many others clearly not in the loop. A diehard Waite/Babys fan but also a clear-eyed critic, I prefaced this tune for my boyfriend thusly: ‘I’m gonna send you one final Babys track. This is a later ( = mediocre) iteration of the band, helmed by our problematic friend John ‘Narcissist’ Waite. I suspect he wrote the thing. Trying embarrassingly and desperately hard to be a misogynistic sexpot rocker of the sleazy persuasion, à la John Parr or David Lee Roth, he manages to slip it in (rather literally!) at the tail end of the song - if you don’t gag earlier (pun intended), try to last (pun intended) until the final moment.’ Since I wrote that, the song has infected me with its deep rocking raunch, bringing my ‘clear-eyed critique’ into some question! 🎸🥸

@@rebeccarosehirschfield7386 My dear Rebecca, what a splendid reply! If you're not a professional writer it's probably because you are doing something equally interesting and creative. Now, to touch on the essence of your comment: I do my best to separate the work of a recording artist from their personal life by recognizing that all performative art is just that - it's all an act. After all, many if not most highly creative people are known to be personally horrible humans, and history is replete with examples. Yet it's been my experience that Most people, regardless of talent, have a terrible side to their personality (refer to "The Stranger" by Billy Joel). Yet if the current cultural trend of cancellation and banishment continues, who among us will remain to provide entertainment? Ciao for now! -DoH

Don’t miss the days on the road 1970s early 80s. However, my brother and I happened to walk back in one March 17th 1995. There she was as I was holding court a few minutes before midnight.... and I’m like blown away by this whirlwind of a woman, stopped at the waitress station grabbing coffee for the boys in band playing at the time. First time she’d ever been at this historic venue. I just a to ask her, where did come from? She smiles walking away looking over her shoulder. Me: do you dance? Her: ask me! I did and we’re celebrating as we do every 17th of the month. Married her in 1997. I’m one of the luckiest dudes around. Like the flame through life happenings as does for all of us .... we roll on. I’m one lucky man. And the benefits came with it. ....still. Never cave in, give up nor quit.

When the video started there wasn't a good shot of him. But I also didn't see a keyboard. Jonathan Cain playing rhythm guitar. Gotta love it.

Yes it is! And he co-wrote this tune with John Waite. Evidently when he joined the group, they knew he played keys but he told them he was also a guitarist but no one believed him. :-) So he brought his guitar into rehearsal one day and started jamming on the riff to what would become this tune . . . and the rest is history!

Duing a rehearsal, Cain played a melody on the piano and said he was trying to write a song around it. The band said “Nah, that sounds cheesy”. When he joined Journey, Cain played the same line for Steve Perry. Then within fifteen minutes, they co-wrote the song “Open Arms”
