Adam, so glad you traveled through my area! 1- The Unique KFC just opened in the last few months. Instead of demolishing an old bank that had some cool architecture, they deciced to just remodel and make the building stand out. A great decision (in my opinion) 2- You missed a completly "on point" location for your trip. The Litle Leauge hall of fame is in the Williamsport area! Thanks for all the great content.

The fresh oil and chips signs you were seeing means the areas had recenly been repaved/sealed to prevent water from getting into it and also increases the traction for the cars as well
@matthewmccormick77682 жыл бұрын
EXTREMELY common in Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDot), utilizes the oil and chip method of repaving quite frequently. Every single road miles and miles around my house has been oil and chipped. Killer traction is right!

That's awesome that my favorite KZbinr is in my home state of Pennsylvania. I think you, Max and Big the Foot will be quite pleased with the cornacopia of fine roadside relics, and whole lot of old small towns. It's really awesome how many are still in existence here in Pennsylvania. The Bing Crosby movie White Christmas was shot literally 20 minutes from where I reside. The movie was shot in gorgeous Honesdale, Pennsylvania. Anywho, I sincerely hope that you, Max and of course Big the Foot enjoy our state (commonwealth to be P.C.), and have safe journies, my friend. If you are going across PA towards Ohio, go to Beaver Falls, where I was born and raised. Downtown Beaver Falls, New Brighton would suit the small town tour perfectly. Tip: eat at the Brighton Hot Dog shoppe, it is a classic popular hot dog destination. It is where I had breakfast the day of my first wedding back in 1989. Trivia: Beaver Falls is also the birth place of quarterback Joe Namath.

Thanks! I grew up in New York State. And Sister Pennsylvania is one of my favorites. I like the way the hills/mountains are there. I lived in houses very similar to your film. Yes. the big corporations dumped on the rivers and streams up there. It is so sad dumping on some of the most beautiful Mother Nature on the planet! Good to know there are strict laws now. Some of it has been reclaimed by nature but some of it will remain for many many years to come. This film is very personally touching to me because my dear sweet mom (RIP) loved old barns. I would take her out an drive aimlessly in Upstate NY and she would take pictures of them.

Fresh oil and chips is the inexpensive process of resurfacing the roads without re-black topping or asphalting the roads. It doesn’t last very long, plus the tar and gravel can leave a mess on ones car when first applied and driving over.

For many years we made a yearly trip from the upper Midwest to the east coast. Before online maps etc we always used the same type of paper atlas to guide our way. At one point we started to use online navigation tools and we were thrilled to not have that big book in the front seat anymore but we soon realized that we really liked using the atlas because it gave us an overall picture at a glance. We now use both despite it seeming to be a bit old fashioned, lol.

“TINNING” is a process used on the surface of copper and brass materials. When copper/brass interact with air & water, their is corrosion, a green layer of oxidation. So the process of “tinning” is used to prevent corrosion on utensils, appliances, etc.

They use that big time here in Michigan also. About 48 hours after chips are placed, street sweepers pick up what did not stick. When my road was done, me and my dad were working on our 150' gravel driveway. Vacuum truck operator asked if wanted the loose gravel, since it would save diesel from going too dump. We got two truckloads from him! First one just dumped in one pile and other he cracked the back like a dump truck and laid it out perfect. Still have a little that has not been ground in but helps awesome when frost comes out in the spring as driveway remains somewhat firm. Wish could find a place too get some more. Also here in Michigan, once loose chips are swept up, they do a top fog coat too seal the rest down, which also makes it so when lines are repainted they stand out once more. One road that was done not too long ago just had a large portion ripped up for sewer work and using concrete now, being very high traffic area.

The fresh oil and chips sign I’m very aware of in PA where I’m from it is when they don’t have the money to pave the roads they put down oil and rock chips on the roads when needed to keep the road surfaces in better shape after our winters which in turn then chips the paint on our cars every time LoL
@MrTonyPiscatelle2 жыл бұрын
The fresh oil and chips sign is referring to the road being sprayed with oil and small chip rock spread on top.. AKA Chip seal is what they call it in most of the south. The biggest reason for the markers on the water hydrants is to keep the snow plow trucks from hitting them. I watched a documentary on one of the barn painters. He painted the roofs of the barns and applied the company's logo. He was paid by the tobacco company but not a lot and the barn owners would feed the man and often give him a place to sleep for the night, They didn't pay the barn owners rather they gained roof maintenance and minor repairs at no charge,
