The Backyard of Bui Vien That You’ve Never Seen (Đề Thám Street Alleys)

I explore the alleys around Đề Thám Street in Cô Giang Ward, District 1, Saigon, Vietnam. Cô Giang Ward and Đề Thám Street are a short walking distance from Bui Vien Walking Street, a tourist hot spot famous for it’s many bars, restaurants, and hostels. This Co Giang ward is basically like the backyard of Bui Vien, and there are tons of alley neighborhoods around here that you’ve likely never seen.
I find some interesting alley neighborhoods on this walk, and interact with some locals in Vietnamese. I need to improve my Vietnamese speaking skills, because while editing I do notice that I’m often making mistakes and not being particularly polite in the way I speak. I hope the viewers know that this doesn’t come from a place of disrespect, but rather a place of elementary skill in speaking Vietnamese. I will get better.
I love doing these alley exploration videos because it feels like a glimpse into a sort of secret part of Saigon, giving me an otherwise unknown perspective on local life and culture.
During this exploration, I get some delicious iced Vietnamese coffee and some fresh sugarcane juice.
It started to rain so I cut this alley/neighborhood exploration a little bit short, but I look forward to publishing more videos exploring this neighborhood and its many interesting alleys, markets, restaurants, and more!
For anyone traveling to Ho Chi Minh City and looking for things to do close to Bui Vien Street, taking a walk around the surrounding local neighborhoods like Co Giang Ward are a free and interesting activity!

I love this content you should film more alley ways in Saigon, I'm sure Saigonese living in Saigon for 60-70yrs and have never set foot inside these neighborhoods . It's easier for you to do the filming, Vietnamese do it it's very awkward, plus they think you have bad intentions coming into their neighborhoods . Thank you

@@BigTimeBentley I'm focusing on the 80-90s houses with doors on one side , windows on the other with wooden shutters that are so rare these days. I'm sure they go back to the 40-50-60s, but growing up in the 80s that's what I remember. Now the modern houses are clean but they lack the old Saigon character .

I like it, the real Saigon, good and bad. That was hell a funny walking right into some stranger's home uninvited and filming it all. That drink is made from dehydrated plum that had beed salted and sweeten. You would love it if they use sparkling water to mix with the dry sweet and salted plum. You should really try it next time. Dry salted and sweet plum with carbonated water is one of my favorite drink in Vietnam.
