I respect the roll our microbiome plays in our health and that a balanced diet will always be beneficial. However, the company Ombre, was formaly a company named Thryve and received an F from the Better Business Bereau for lack of transparancy. I am still looking forward to future videos on the microbiome.

It's a particularly interesting subject for me because first off, my wife died last year from klebsiella -- a bacterium that as long as it stays in the gut, is one of the essential bacteria to help with the absorption of nutrients and also the efficient expulsion and neutralization of waste products. Unfortunately the klebsiella escaped my wife's gut somewhere and got into her bloodstream and simply ravaged her body -- an attack from which she never recovered. Secondly, it's a cohort to viruses and how viruses enter the body and how the body's cells and the antibodies that protect them, develop and defend the entire body from these invaders. Microbiome is life by an order of magnitude and it can't even been seen, felt, or heard; and yet it can be both beneficial and deleterious to our very survival. There is something almost Biblical to their impact on our bodies and life itself. Fascinating.

I'm curious about how the overuse of antibiotics and hormones in the livestock industry, as well as the MAP packaging in which the meat is sold, affects the microbiome of meat-eaters. Also curious about the difference in microbiome influence of eggs from caged chickens versus bona fide free range chickens who eat insects and enjoy walking around in sunshine and fresh air.

Probably a genetic effect, too, but when I was a tomboy growing up: scrounging in the dirt, playing in natural creeks, wild turtles and toads as pets, access to horses and stables. Today I'm well over 65 and am seldom sick. After watching this video, I wonder how much my later life benefited from microbiota I started cultivating in childhood.

I agree 100%. I was sick most of my life with gut issues. I had stomach aches every day of my life. Loose stools every day of my life too. It got to a point where even eating a banana caused gut pain. I tried probiotics, prebiotics, supplements, everything. One day I decided to go vegetarian, and stopped eating meat. Within a month, I was feeling better. Within 3 months, the daily stomach aches subsided. After 6 months of no meat, I think I re-set my gut bacteria. I have since resumed eating meat a couple days a week, with no issues!!! It's so strange not having gut wrenching pain after eating. I feel good, and I can eat almost anything now. I think back to when I was a teenager when I ate bad chicken nuggets that had been without refrigeration for a couple days. (I was desperate at the time). I had food poisoning like you wouldn't believe. Sick with vomiting & diarrhea for 3 days. Could that be a link to my lifelong gut issues? An overwhelming number of bad bacteria in my gut?

After I was taken off them I got Cdiff so severely I became septic over and over for over a year. I almost died FROM BEING ON ANTIBIOTICS. I haven't been the same since. Severe fatigue, pelvic pain, depression, repeated infections. I'm on disability. Its been 15 years and I've been thinking a LOT about this issue. I'm about to spend my check on that gut test on the 1st. May be a long shot, but I'll come back and tell you if it makes a difference. 🤞🤞

Are we too clean? The Hadza are an incredible example of just how adaptable humans can be, and certainly learning more about our microbiota would prove invaluable to understanding health. I think "clean" may not be as great a term as thinking about "variety" in exposure imo. Including more unprocessed, fibrous foods in modernized diets would probably be invaluable to our health even more so than just with gut bacteria, but I don't think that means washing your hands with the raw meat from a freshly butchered cow then proceeding to prepare the family dinner to achieve some sort of ancient robust health profile. In the case of the Hadza, their particular way of life is not only more isolated physically than ours, but relatively unchanged for longer than ours. Not only that, but they're way more active which could be a significant factor as to why they're healthy. I doubt it's an end all answer to the pervasive question on how to be "healthy," but surely a puzzle piece that will give us a more insight into the pattern of ailments we see in modern society.

I don’t know why people are so obsessed with sanitizing everything. When need exposure to everything. Growing up we’d play in the dirt and even eat it, we hardly got sick. I’ve known people who don’t even let their infants walk barefoot, much less play outside in the dirt, those babies grew up looking malnourished and sick.

Very interesting and definitely has me wanting to eat better. The c-section subject is really interesting. My daughter was a vaginal birth and my son c-section. My daughter was sick as a young child more often than my son. Except my son has really bad seasonal allergies and to specific things, like if he lies on a pillow that the dog previously lied on. His eyes get itchy, become red and swollen. My daughter doesn't have any allergies. I was able to breastfeed my daughter for two months but only able for two weeks with my son. Even then, I didn't get much in with him, he a got a lot less. Looking forward to knowing more on this.

Thank you for what you are doing! I've been fascinated by this topic. I had 4 Cesareans (all attempted vaginal births, but apparently I have a titled pelvis that no baby head could descend into). I had my children in 3 different states. I asked each time for a vaginal swab to be placed in the mouth, but no doc would do it. As a young woman in college, I took a horrible drug called Accutane (and several antibiotics before that) for severe acne. If I had only known the havoc it would wreak on my body I never would have taken such strong antibiotics. When I got married, I was a virgin. I was super sick on my wedding day with a sinus infection and tonsillitis. I took antibiotics and developed a horrific yeast infection which turned into a systemic candida overgrowth. My vagina swelled shut for months. I kept asking doctors about diet changes or probiotics (knowing candida feasts on sugar, yeasts, etc). They all said no just take antifungals for 6 months. I finally went to a naturopath and he recommended I go gluten, dairy sugar free to starve the yeast and increase fiber and probiotics. I was able to recover from my candida overgrowth, but my gut has never recovered from the years of harsh antibiotics. I'm still sad when I think about how much the doctors don't know about the role of diet, gut health in overall health and prevention of chronic diseases. I'm super excited to try ombre to see where my microbiome is currently!

I remember when I first realized the whole darn body, up and down, has potentially ideal microbe balances to address the available diet. (And bigger, all environmental factors.) Sort of answering the other half of the disease question. Fecal transplants, candida, and hearing the antibiotics can also adversely impact your microbiota, painted an interesting picture. Sort of been experimenting with Probiotics to see what they can do for me.

@chickenmonger123 2 жыл бұрын
@@UsernameUnkwn21 Absolutely. Diet is also critical to making that work. Whatever you eat, is going to be eaten by the bacteria, and whatever eats it, will breed and proliferate. So essentially, you want the best bacteria, with its most beneficial waste and eating habits. And you want that to compete well in the competition of your gut. Remember the food webs in Ecology class in school? It’s like that, except tiny. The little guys can push others out, and do all kinds of things. And your lever on it, is that you are the food supplier. Chances are, you’ll settle out to a stable place. But there is evidence mounting that what you eat has more to it than it’s Carbs, Fats, and Proteins. Calories. Fiber. All that. It also effects which bacteria grow based on other less easily defined qualities. Which is probably why Keto seems to work. And reducing Carbs is sooo good. Because yeast, and whatever eats Gluten is not great for your gut. Though I am not a Dr., nor am I an expert. This is not advice you should take on faith. Research and experiment by data. That’s the only kind of evidence I really have. All the variables being removed for individuals, and introduction of one new thing at a time. Which is only nominally Scientific, because it’s not wide enough of a data set. Though you can probably make something of it if you gather it and see how it trends.

The exact cause of IBS is unknown, but factors like abnormal muscle contractions in the intestines, oversensitivity to pain, and changes in gut bacteria may contribute to its development. Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): GERD is a chronic condition in which stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, leading to symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and chest pain. It occurs due to a weakened lower esophageal sphincter, which normally prevents stomach acid from entering the esophagus. Peptic Ulcer Disease: Peptic ulcers are open sores that develop on the lining of the stomach, upper small intestine, or esophagus. They can be caused by an infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria, long-term use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), or excess stomach acid production. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and heartburn. Gastroenteritis: Gastroenteritis refers to inflammation of the stomach and intestines, often caused by viral or bacterial infections. It results in symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, and sometimes fever. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD): IBD includes conditions like Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, which involve chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. These conditions can cause symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea (sometimes with blood), fatigue, weight loss, and malnutrition. Celiac Disease: Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the consumption of gluten triggers an immune response, damaging the lining of the small intestine. It can lead to symptoms like abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhea, fatigue, and nutrient deficiencies. Diverticular Disease: Diverticular disease occurs when small pouches (diverticula) develop in the lining of the colon. If these pouches become inflamed or infected, it is known as diverticulitis. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, fever, and rectal bleeding.

My friends and I talk about this, how "back in the day" they were on farms, meat processing, cleaning up after the animals and such, and there wasn't as many weird ailments as there are today. We also talk about sterilized food and why we don't get the same taste we used to from meat and vegetables, as well as the whole GMO thing. Even our PETS used to be healthier, and it makes me wonder if what we're doing also affects our pets microbiome and causing them to get more of these odd ailments that humans are getting. Thank you for this video! Truly never thought about it as in depth as this before 😃

Btw, you can be vegan and have a robust microbiome considering immune-boosting bacteria proliferate the greatest by eating plants in which the presenter mentioned fiber. 🌱 Can't wait to get my test kit (despite the gross specimen sample) with $30 off. Ty!! It makes me wonder, whenever you feel someone else has "negative energy" or a "bad aura," does that mean their regional species pool doesn't vibe with our own? 🤔🤪🤷‍♂

Fascinating topic, really looking forward to hearing more. I privately theorised about 20 years ago, on hearing of the rise in allergies (which I suffer from myself) that we were being too hygienic with children. In fact, I predict that the previous rise in allergies and immune problems is going to look pathetic in comparison to what we will soon see as a result of the use of alcohol hand gels and anti bacterial products in response to the pandemic. Quite apart from the fact that anti bacterial products won't kill viruses, these products have been used indiscriminately and children have been exposed to gallons of the stuff. This doesn't bode well for our health.

My thoughts as well. I also wonder if our increasingly indoors lifestyle is also negatively impacting the microbiota after watching this. Less exposure to neighbors, dirt, animals, and eating with unwashed hands. It makes me think of people like Theodore Roosevelt, who were very sick as kids and kept cooped up indoors their whole childhoods, only to suddenly find good health after getting outside for long periods of time and exercising vigorously. The covid pandemic is turning a large portion of our population into germaphobes and their future kids may end up paying the price with immune issues.

People with IBS would be on the floor dying from pain. Fiber for IBS is a trigger. Which is horrible but from learning more about my conditions, I've been told specifically NO raw veggies from my gastroenterologist. My dietician has me on a Low Fodmap diet which is: fermentable oligosaccharides disaccharides monosaccharides and polyols I'm also on a gastroparesis diet because my body doesn't digest food properly. I think the biggest thing to understand is that people with IBS or IBS-C can't digest fermented foods without it triggering symptoms and telling them to eat more fiber all the time is one of the worst things that doctors can do. I used to think because I was constipated I needed more fiber, eat more fiber, more salad, more fruit, more veggies, more grains. I felt horrible. I cut out red meat, raw veggies, fried food and started on these two diets and my gut is actually working. For the first time in my entire life, my gut is working. I was born with gut issues, I SCREAMED as a baby because my stomach hurt (my parents remind me to this day how much I screamed and I'm 35). I really hope you reconsider your position on food sensitivities. I'm gluten sensitive it's not the same as celiac disease. You can be sensitive to gluten and not be allergic to it. Sensitive means your stomach can't/has a hard time digesting it, celiac is an actual ALLERGY to gluten. They are not interchangeable terms.

Dropping mental health issues as being correlated with depleted microbiomes was extremely vague and has the potential to be misinterpreted. Could you please clarify? (Cuz like my initial thought is if an autistic person is really sensitive to specific foods and has a limited diet, they’ll probably have a less diverse gut microbiome. But it also sounded as if these could be cured or avoided if the person with the condition or the parents respectively had “better” microbiomes. Which doesn’t quite sit well with me.) What was implied by the initial statement?

@Jadinass
@Jadinass 2 жыл бұрын
this is very complicated and still actively studied but what you are describing is known as gut mucosal tolerance. This tolerance is not too dissimilar to our self tolerance, which is something our immune system learns by being exposed to "self" antigens constantly. The way i like to think about the immune system is that it is blind and dumb and would readily attack anything new that is presented to it. In the process where the immune system acquires its memory for a self antigen there is a step that prevents certain types of immune cells from activating. These immune cells can recognize the antigen but they don't activate an immune response.

17:00 Seems like that implies that probiotics can treat these conditions, or could potentially do so with a different formulation. Is that true? Do you see patients who eg eat probiotic yogurt largely escaping these conditions?
@theanatomylab
@theanatomylab 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! Probiotics have been shown to be a phenomenal treatment at times, and lackluster at others. Until we can understand the regional species pool with extreme accuracy, probiotic treatments can be hit or miss. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be used, or that there's no benefit, it just means that the human body is complex, and things don't always work the way they're intended to. When probiotics don't seem to have much of an effect, prebiotics (supplements or dietary fiber) typically help improve the environment.

I'll give you one real world example, although I cannot explain the exact mechanics of it, but it coincides with this video. My bff's ex had the "incurable" Chron's desease. At one point he had enough of ending up in the hospital every now and then, he did some research and he finally got rid of it - 6 or 7 years clean now. He used THC oil (not CBD, but THC), and he also improved his eating habits *a lot*. He started eating more clean, a lot more vegetables, etc. Not sure if he took any probiotics with it. Anyway, he got rid of it, he also started going to the gym, and he was back to where he had been before his first major outbreak (after than first one and until getting rid of it, he was incredibly skinny)
