The baddest rear load Garbage Truck around: A roaring Mack Granite McNeilus rear loader

Here is one of my favorite garbage trucks around: A 2007 Mack Granite McNeilus rear load garbage truck. Seen here collecting residential garbage with one of the coolest crew's around. A special thanks to my awesome friend for letting me film and hang out while he was subbing on this route. Also a big thanks to the helper for always being friendly and letting me film. On to the truck... This is a real beast of a truck, as you can tell it sounds amazing. It actually packed 18.5 tons the day before this was filmed. You may notice this truck is manually revving, this is because this truck blew a fuse that morning and now needed to be manually revved until it could get in the shop that night to be fixed. This certainly adds a ton of entertainment value and makes it sound even better. So enjoy this truck and crew work their route. Thanks again to the amazing driver and helper for letting be tag along for a bit.

benHoda'ah Shedar' That is awesome! 33 years deserves serious respect. I absolutely agree, this is one of my favorite trucks ever. Mack and McNeilus, are really the best trucks out there, or at-least the old ones were. These McNeilus’s do pack insanely well, 20 tons is average for the 32 yards from what I hear.

This guy is awesome , he hustles 👍🏻 but rear loading trash in my opinion will be a thing of the past soon eventually everything will be automatic so I appreciate these videos, I do bulk and brush pick up and I salute all the hard working garbage men and women 👍🏻

Trashman242 Trashman242 They sure are haha. In all my years of watching rear load helpers, I have never seen someone as good as him. If you watch at around the 12:52 mark you can see that he notices the truck struggling to get up the hill, so he releases the packer in order to give the truck more power. He is very in-tune with everything. 12 tons just about is spot on, when I stoped filming, they still had 1 subdivision of trash and 3 of bulk/yard waste left. At the end of the day they dumped with 13.5 tons. Thanks for the comment!

Garbage industry productions is bulk/yard waste a weekly thing or kinda unusual to have it out with the carted trash like this? I was sorta surprised to see both collected by one truck, sure explains the tonnage. also yeah I used to get annoyed with helpers trying to run it as I was taking off, I would just shut off the pump for the drive between houses if it got bad, but yeah I noticed this helper holding off that one time

Trashman242 Yep, Yard waste, bulk, and extra trash is all collected weekly here. Although residents are supposed to call for bulk pick up and buy tags for extra trash. I'm not sure if the manger tells the drivers to pick it up, or they just pick it up to help residents out and avoid missed pickup calls. Mixing yard waste and trash is legal here, so that's why it all goes into one truck. After working on several brands of rear loaders, what was your favorite?

that's a hard question to answer, I haven't operated a Heil Powertrak and think it could get 1st, but still the 5000 would be my favorite because of its low but deep hopper, good looks, and quality ergonomics for riding on the steps

Trashman242 It certainly is haha. I still appreciate the input. I have never ran a rear loader on route, however everyone that I have talked to likes the Mcneilus's but some like the Leach's because of there packing ability. A driver I know once packed 28 tons in his Leach 2r2.

I worked at a place 20 years ago we had a sterling with a 31 yd ezpack with a commercial hopper that would haul loads like that it was crazy by buddy had 24 ton or yard waste on it 1 day and it wasn't full lol

It's great to see Republic running cool trucks in some corners of the country, because here in cali they're notorious for having the lamest trucks in any town. Have they repainted the other Robertson trucks? Not sure how the acquisition went but judging by the carts it looks like they've had this area since the BFI days, so maybe Roberts worked in a different area? Idk if you could explain it to me that'd be great. In any case you did a fantastic job with the video.

trashmonster26 It sure is, I love our fleet, Imo its the best fleet in my area. I agree most of Republic's Cali stuff is boring, but yall's Wittke's are awesome! This is the only Robertson truck that my yard has, however many of Republic's yards in the Atlanta still have them. Almost none of them have been repainted, the Atlanta yards never cared about rebranding.This city has had a contract with BFI since 1999, only BFI and Allied trucks ran here until 2010 when this truck and a few commercial trucks were transferred to replace some of the old trucks. T Bren Why not? It is legal under the law. It is much cheaper. It is also better for the environment. You don’t have to send out extra trucks to collect the yard waste. Plus when it is in the landfill it will decompose and the landfill owner will capture all of the methane it lets off and use it to power thousands of homes.

Dan Hodges Thank you!! I’m Not totally sure why. There are many possible reasons why, It might be because of diseases in the lawns and not wanting to spread that around, maybe to save money, or time/fuel, or maybe they don’t have the infrastructure for it. I am unsure of the exact reason why, but I believe it is because of the lack of infrastructure, as there is not a composting facility anywhere close to this city.

Terrible design he keeps having to touch the waste to distribute it as the bin doesn't raise high enough to empty such a large one. Whoever designed this piece of junk should be made to use it.

Peter i I do agree that the cart tipper needs improvement and isn’t the best design. However this manufacturer actually makes many models which tip the container much higher. Although credit where credit is due, this truck was extremely full and the packer was having a very hard time cycling with any good rate of speed. So that didn’t help either. Thanks for the comment!
