The BADGER Renegade Krome review (Happy 60 years to Badger!)

The first two airbrushes I ever owned were the plastic Aztec from Testors, designed for modelers, and then I bought a Sotar 2020 directly from Ken Schotfeld in the late 1990s at a Wonderfest modelers convention. Not too long ago Amazon had the Badger Arrow airbrush, a 105 variant, for about $55 and I grabbed it. It came with a small cup like the Renegade and a number 5 needle/nozzle. I switched out the no 3 needle/nozzle on my Patriot Extreme 105 to the Arrow and I love it! Low air speed, sprays great. Excellent review of the Renegade!

I purchased a Badger Renegade Velocity when they first came out and it is my primary airbrush. Great for detail work up to larger applications. I do switch to a Badger Xtreme Patriot when I need a larger nozzle opening though.

I just bought a Badger Renegade Krome off EBAY and I am waiting for it to arrive. I've heard nothing but good reviews about it, and I'm getting so anxious to get to work with it!

Order extra nozzles, aircaps and needles. The nozzles are the smallest of any brand...a cat fart will send them into orbit

Badger has the best customer service of any company I've ever been in contact with. I was convinced to buy my patriot when I called the company to see if I could get some clarification about the different models and got connected to the owner. Totally wild. They straight up told me I didn't need one of their more expensive models for my purposes. I still completely stink at using it, but someday I'll get better.

That's a great story! I've never spoken to the owner, but they have been great to me as well. I haven't used their customer service is a long time though. i'll be a lifelong fan of the brand for sure

It will be interesting to see how the new infinity trigger response compares to this and the sotar. It would be awesome if it had the badger trigger response with custom micron level of atomisation all with h&s ease of disassembly and maintenance. I think it would be nice to have a video highlighting the differences between the sotar, custom micron and an infinity. With build quality and maintenance aside, what is the best spraying airbrush? Does it just come down to whatever feels better in the hand?

When I started back into airbrushing! After the bad experience with the AB 150 Badger! I was looking to buy this one you just review but went with infinty cr plus 2 in 1 instead! Which as you know, I don’t have anymore either. I do have Timothy’s customized extreme patriot arrow and is night and day compare to that AB 150! That is awesome JC! I need to pick up one of those extreme patriot arrows one day as well. I'm ashamed to admit that I've never tried a 150 because it's a pretty legendary airbrush. Someday for sure. Have a great one JC!

I just had another sotar slim turn up from the same offer. £77 including shipping to the UK. This is my second sotar slim. It's just so impressive. I love them as much as the micron.

Isn't the sotar slim amazing Ken? You can't beat £77 for it. I'm a huge fan of it as well. I was so close to ordering another sotar as well, but the size of my airbrush collection is starting to look concerning 🤣

Another great review - fond memories of older Badger ABs. The RC Badger performance is excellent. I bet they're similarly priced in UK when on a deal, great value for that performance 👍✌️💜😊 The finish of the body reminds me of my Paasche (replacing my Millennium trigger is a chore as is setting the spring screw/adjuster, never fits the same way twice) - similar cleaning issues with my H and Millennium, but they work well and are robust, good value too. I find myself using H&S more and more and a £30 GHAD39 by Galleri. Looking forward to H&S Infinity 2024 in alloy🤞🤞💜👍✌️😊

I kept my Krome despite having PS771's, Takumi etc. much like you say solidly built, great response, I like the trigger back a bit more so my hand isn't in the way at certain angles. It's like a poor mans custom micron really, sadly can't find them in Canada now, glad I ordered a lot of extra needles etc for it and the owner also helped me one time when I got a patriot Xtreme that had some odd finish in the cup

I hear you on that and I feel the same way about my sotar 2020s. I love my 771 and my microns as well, but the sotar is an airbrush that cannot be replaced.

Now that Badger owns Thayer and Chandler products - they are selling Omnis. Apparently rebranded for Mig Ammo as Cobra and Viper. A review would be cool - if you ever run out of airbrushes to review.

So, I have a Patriot 105 with the super detail conversion set pre-installed. After a couple of years use, I decided to get the renegade Krome. I absolutely can't tell any difference in the performance between the two. Maybe having the smaller needle/nozzle set installed on the patriot has something to do with that.

Yes, you can use them with a badger krome. I've heard a lot of great things about mr. color paints. But I much prefer a water-based (water soluble) paint as they are so much easier to clean out of the airbrush using water and a bit of cleaner at the end.
