Peterson is just spectacular. The range, depth and sensitivity of his playing is incomparable. By far my favorite player.

I'm pretty sure it's "And We Will Love Again", one of his own.

Wow! Actually, i belive you. Is it possible there is only one released recording of that tune? Here’s that rainy day/We will love again from ‘Oscar In Paris-live at the Salle Pleyel’ album? Thanks! You are Sherlock.

Where can I hear more music like this? Cerebral, sensitive, introspective, freewheeling and structured.

Try Oscar Peterson’s albums “Strictly for my Friends”. They contain all of those things.

Hi there. I'm not saying this is correct, but I have read a lot about Oscar. One of the things that I read is that NHOP used to try to prod Oscar sometimes to just play something off the cuff. I can't remember which pieces came out of some of this "prodding", but I have the feeling that it came from this. When Oscar was on Marian McPartland's radio show after his stroke, they both made up a piece off the cuff for each other and they were both great. Love your channel Andras!

Some parts of this remind me of "The Windmills of your mind" by Michel Legrand, maybe it's a really abstract improvisation over it
@take9429 ай бұрын
Possibly his abstract version of "The Shadow of Your Smile", much like an abstract painting.

It's called Peterson's Blues. There is a KZbin video of the whole concert kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqjChGuiptpjrc0

Thanks, yes, i know, but i have only one tiny problem with that, this is far away from blues. 😂

Monty Alexander said it was his theme
@SzekAndMusic9 ай бұрын
Yes, He said it was, and i am sure that was that. But that is not this. Monty’s theme is called ‘Sweet Lady’ and that was the 3rd track in this concert, they palyed together with NHOP after Soft Winds… And this is a solo tune between People and On The Trail. :-)

Breathtaking! Why didn't I know of this? Edit: It's not "Shadow of a Smile" (different chord progressions) - I would rather hear inspirations form Chopin and Liszt.. and as very beautiful this is, I hear no consistent "theme" that would be taken up again at the end. I think this is "peak humanity"...
@SzekAndMusic9 ай бұрын
Thank you for your comment, and yes you're right, the progression is unusual, 'this' is probably just the best jazz pianist in the world with a piano, he's playing from heart, as always. And true, it is a peak moment. His approach to this tune is a bit different than usual, but still i can hear some Shadows's chrods. I'll leave the title above, because i want people to continue this conversation about the title issue, ok? Anyway, that is telling a lot about this issue, that this tune is always remains empty in the concert's descriptions...and this is a famous and well-known concert of Peterson and NHØP. Just one more thing, i think it is worth looking at the concert repertoires of 1-2 years before and after this concert...he often returns to tunes from time to time.

Maybe ‘Consider’ composed later than 1979 i think. So it can’t be.

Te ráismersz amúgy erre a dallamra? :)
