The Ballenberg open air Swiss museum

The Ballenberg Open-Air Museum transports you into the past. Located just outside Brienz, you can see original, centuries-old buildings from all over Switzerland in beautiful natural surroundings. Since the 1970s, old farmhouses, stables, bakeries, or barns are no longer demolished when they are due for replacement. Instead, the buildings are dismantled stone by stone, and rebuilt in the Ballenberg Open Air Museums 163 acres. What began in 1978 with 16 characteristic Swiss buildings, is today an extensive exhibition with over 100 residential and agricultural buildings from all over Switzerland. You can also see a variety of exhibitions and live demonstrations of old Swiss crafts as you tour the museum.
