So impressive, still after 52 years. A true masterpiece. I still have the album.

Gives me goosebumps. The story he is telling is touching. Garth creates such an atmosphere. Richard is singing in another dimension. One of my favorites on this gem of an album. This song sends shivers down my back.

As I lie recovering from knee replacement,my mood swings back to my youth. At 62 I have . always been transfixed by the beauty of this well rounded group. Tears fall from my pain and dry as the lyrics slide by

Hah.... I'm 62 as well. We are in the same time-capsule.... This song reminds me of the boy who lived next door and died young. His name was Gary Lloyd. A really nice kid. He'd put his head in my window and ask 'Hi Steve. What are you doing?'

Great songwriting and vocal delivery. Garth’s keyboards sets a sublime mood. Dark and reflective, one of their best in that genre.

It IS Richard Manuel. His and Danko's timbres were the same but there's a little more grit and sadness in Richard's voice.

Ronnie Hawkins' assessment of Garth Hudson's musical impact on his band after Garth joined forces with the Hawks back in the day: "I don't know what style that is he's playing. It sure as hell ain't rock-n-roll, but it works!" This song would be another observation along those lines.
Check out Garth's "Canadian Celebration of The Band" 2010 cd. All Canadian performers produced by Garth and with Garth playing on every selection --- described as Garth's eclectic selection of favorite Band songs. Beautiful.

exactly what i was thinking last time i heard this, springsteen was clearly influenced not just by this song, but the band in general as well

Full disclosure: The Band is my favorite band. That said, this song sucks the big one. But Richard Manuel is still able to move heaven and earth with his soulful singing.

@fan54073 ай бұрын
@@terrytalk8047 Come on. "It looked like he's really, really hurt / He was lying in the dirt" is not the pinnacle of storytelling. This song isn't an abomination, but it's only listenable because The Band are so good they can squeeze juice out of a rock, but this is a rock.

@@fan5407 You can pick it apart if you like, but the song as a whole is, in my opinion, rather amazing and astonishing.

@townesjames1fan8309 жыл бұрын
+mojobone At first I didn't agree with you about Richard Manuel being the lead vocalist on The Moon Struck One But after some research about who sung what in The Band I stand corrected, I think.. When I listen to Stagefright I know it's Rick singing and yet The moon Struck One also sounds like Rick. If i'm wrong and I probably am then I think that I might need a hearing aid. But it sounds great to me whoever it is that's singing.
@townesjames1fan8309 жыл бұрын
+mojobone I DON'T need a hearing aid. It is Richard Manuel singing. Glad that's sorted. It would have kept me up all night.
@townesjames1fan8309 жыл бұрын
+mojobone PLEASE tell me there isn't much of a difference between Rick and Richard's voices. I think they are very similar. If not then I'm completely NUT'S!!!!!...

+TownesJames # 1 fan i hear you-sometimes it's like richard, rick and levon share the same vocal chords... took me ages to figure out who was lead on 'rocking chair'... one more thing to love about the band
