Hi and thanks, Exit Thru the Gift Shop for taking us to Banff Trading Post. 🙄🙄😨😨😳😳😱😱 I felt like I entered the door to a "Horrific movie"!!! Here comes a "Merman!" @1:09. So this object has never been examined and kept as a myth. Guess what? I have seen and swam with "Mermaid" that we call "Manatees" in FL. Sailers thought manatees are mermaids. 😁😁😂😂🤣🤣 Thank you for educating me about this legend. 😊😊

I love manatees! Such gentle giants :) It's hard to imagine them being mistaken for mermaids, but still probably more believable than a merman that is half monkey half fish!

Nice view on that place. The shop is full of eclectic items. That is cool Merman mummified. Thank you for such an interesting story about the merman. Thumbs up! 17

It has some interesting wares for sure. Although I think the taxidermy and furs are just for display nowadays!

I would have been there prior to 1984, but man I do NOT remember this guy. I will have to ask my parents if they took me to see it or not. I'm pretty impressed at the creativity of whoever put this together! Very cool! Thanks for sharing this!

When I went as a kid it was more of a curiosity tucked away in the back of the shop. I don't remember there being tshirts or postcards. Maybe it's grown in fame over the past 35 years!

That was great! Next time I’m in Banff I’m going to check it out! I need to see that merman with my own eyes!

That’s a creepy merman 🧜♂️😱Jenn

As opposed to a non-creepy merman?!? This thing was mildly terrifying when I was a kid, but I couldn't keep my eyes off it. Today's kids are so desensitized: "I don't believe it"! lol

"That's so cool!" "I don't believe it" 🤣🤣🤣 There is something that is just so cool about seeing a fiji mermaid. You know it's fake, but you still are fascinated by it! Cool trading post!

Totally agree! I'm not sure what the fasination is - Maybe that at one time people believed it, or that someone had the nerve to attach a monkey to a fish and call it attraction? Either way it's a fun and cool historic oddity 😆
