B: I keep 5000 BBs strictly for poker, and have weathered several extended runs of bad luck without forced changes to my play, or any outside addition to my bankroll. IMO, players with short bankrolls are one of the easiest groups to defeat. Don't set yourself up to be bullied!

(3)... and for good reason. I tried the 1 million BB's attempt at bank roll management it cost me TIME. I sat in the micros crushing for 8-12 bb per 100 for WAAAY too long, wasting my life. I was using a 40 buy in BRM which is exactly what you recommend here! Sorry! But this COST ME!! I have swung in the EXTREME opposite direction. I now use a 5 BI BRM and I'm already way further ahead than I was. I'm ready for the swings. I'm not gonna sit around playing $100NL forever. Time to go big or go home.

At 67 I was an OMC for years. Now I study Johnathan and others and am fearless because I have an edge and a bankroll. I love variance because my opponents hate it. I no longer let outcome effect me. You just can’t do that under funded. You are so right! Many players I do well against are actually better players than me. But they just tilt a lot. Usually because they can’t take a cooler very well and they really assume that I’m a nit. My bluffs are way under called. But by far improper bankroll management is the biggest edge they give me.

I’m playing 1-2 no limit live with a win rate of 8-10 bb/hr (32 bb/100) over 500+ live hours. I’ve used your bankroll management lessons and taken them to heart. I currently have a roll of 6500 bbs. My goal is to built it up to a roll of 10000 bbs though. I have normal job so I play on the side. I do not spend any of my bankroll for any reason ever.

I'm in same situation as you nicholi. I just want to get to a point where I can make as much or more money than my current job. For now I play part time 1-2 times per week. Usually on the weekend. If I can get to 2/5 I will be happy. Currently playing 1/3 at 50bbs everytime I buy in. It is the smallest game at my local casino. I'm planning on growing my bankroll in a year to buy in for the full 100bb at 1/3. Then maybe I can get to 2/5 the year after. I play 5-8 hrs per session.

This was a really good video. In particular, the buy-in strategy section made a LOT of sense to me. I found I was slightly losing over time playing online poker. The ONLY change I made to fix that was simply cashing out more often to PROTECT gains I had made. I typically play 4-tables at once. If I ever find myself in a position when where I have a profit of ~3-4 buyins I cash out. Now when I buy back in again, I am now essentially, playing for free and anything I have on the table is profit. This is a good position to be in and I think you should ALWAYS do it online poker.

Don't just track time of day - track the day of the week and if it was a holiday. At many local casinos outside of the big gambling cities, the Mon-Thurs crowd is more heavily balanced towards the grinding players who are there every day (or nearly) and play a lot. Being able to keep ANY edge against this crowd is good and will pay off substantially Fri-Sun and on holidays when the recreational players come out in force. But you can't be all that successful if you can't win in both crowds, so knowing not just your overall win rate, but your "school night" win rate is important.

Wouldn't it be wise to put a fraction of your bankroll into short term t-bills or even an index fund? I get that’s there's variance, but if the money is sitting around shouldn't it be put into liquid and *relatively* safe investments? Tbills are the gold standard for safety and liquidity but the US stock market on the long term gives better yields. I know that if you see yourself going to the top you should just be going to higher stakes. But what about dudes who are content to play 2/5 or even 5/10?

love the content .... very good point of bankroll management .... also i do not understand why some people (including regulars) don't manage their emotions as well, they go verbally aggressive and occasionally physical as well (eg. throwing chips at you, sometimes punches lol 🤣 or even worse following you in the car park and scratch your car or something silly) when they lost a big hand or an all-in, I find it hilarious although I understand the pain .... I think a lot has to do with them not having enough budget to cover up for a bad streak of losses like you just demonstrated with that guy being down 8 k dollars at a time and that is so infuriating, they loose control thinking they will have to work hard another few months at their dead end job to save another balance for poker ..... Deep down I love when they throw these tantrums, I just fear for them following me trying to get revenge or wanting to get physical as I am no supporter of violence.

Theyre simply ignorant about variance. If theyre ignorant about variance, theyre ignorant about bankroll requirements. If theyre ignorant about bankroll requirements, they play too high and they go broke a lot. This explains the emotions. All because theyre ignorant about variance.

I know it’s not ideal but do you think most of this GTO will work in my local 2-20 Spread game. I used to play 40 hrs a week and have taken 12 years away from the game. I recently went to my local game and they are terrible. I unfortunately made a rookie mistake late in the night and cost myself the night but I know it happens. Long term I feel I am going to crush this game. But was just wondering what adjustments you would make for the spread game. Since there is less bluffing.

i play 1/2 in San Antonio Texas ,the 1/2 here is always super deepstacked . its not uncommon to come into a table where the average stack is 1500 and big stack is 2-3k if the table has been running long enough. what would you recommend as a good bankroll size for a game thats so deep?
@theejayzeeable
@theejayzeeable 4 ай бұрын
Go by how the game plays. If its 1/2 but stacks are deep and standard pf raises are at least $20, then use 2/5 bankroll requirements. If its super deep and theres frequent 3betting pf, then use 5/10 requirements.

I understand the swing of the game. I’ve been playing online at a particular poker site, that people suspect that is maybe a little wonky and the times I’ve been dealt any combo of ace cards, has diminished. I started noticing it, because I saw some players, not all but some, being dealt a lot of Ace hole cards. I thought it was just me, so I started writing down when I got any combination of Ace cards, over 1000 hands I was dealt, it was 3.60% while it should be approximately 5.88%. I also started recording the sessions and even though I couldn’t always see the cards, it was always the same people at the table that had more Ace combo cards than others. I’ve also recorded these sessions and looked at them, and analyzed them, but I do need to get deeper into these videos. I’m just playing there now to record what I see. Something ain’t right there. Maybe I’m just having a bad run, so I keep playing and recording everything. Maybe it will get better. But it’s kinda strange.

Online poker RNG in general is pretty suspect, every program I've used (PStars and GG have been the noticeable worst) it's obvious the RNG is set for action and making the most money for the company via rake rather than offering a normal live poker experience statistically speaking (like how many times people are dealt AA,KK and other pocket pairs in the same hand for example). It's like a digital slot machine, the odds are set in the software. @@joshkardos1673

@joshkardos1673. I know, I didn’t want to mention it, but I’m on a bigger site now and it’s much better. At least I have a fair shot now PK-Star and the stakes are very low, so it’s excellent for practice, although I still can’t play the bottom levels, because the people playing there are just as wild as anywhere like that, I guess. The pot is all over the place. People bet with anything, you can’t have strategy there, because it’s completely unpredictable what’s going to happen. It wild. Like very wild.

Saying the casino should oay their dealers more is just like people bitching about the national min wage. If wages go up newflash the cost of goods and services rise as well. Dealers get paid more, rake will go up. It is naive to think the casinosare just going to gice up their profits.

Just saying if you can’t afford to tip the dealer enough money for them to make a livable wage then you can’t afford to play in the casino. The dealers expect a certain amount of money per hour on average same as you and if the players at your casino can’t accommodate that you won’t have any dealers left. There are reasonable ways to tip dealers a sufficient amount even as a professional poker player. It’s just another factor of the big math equation. Also I guarantee more misdeals and screwed up hands will go your way if the employees like you. They work for themselves more than they work for the casino.
