The Barefoot Skateboarders | Unique Sports Stories from India

India's largest skateboarding park isn't in a big city, it's in a small village in Madhya Pradesh.
A sport which has long been identified with urban neighbourhoods across the world, is being used in a village in central India as a trigger for social change. Ulrike Reinhard - a German national - established a skate park in Janwar, Madhya Pradesh in February 2015, with the help of a few Indian and international skateboarding organisations. The region to which the village belongs is notorious for being one of the most socially and economically backward areas of the country. Untouchability, gender inequality, illiteracy, and alcoholism are rampant here. Through the voices of Ulrike and the children of the village, the film documents how the skate park is gradually changing the social fabric of the village and addressing some of its most deep rooted issues.

She's another devil, these kids shouldn't be barefoot with the funds they've received. This lady doesn't even skate and never knew the power of skateboard until she saw a similar project in Bangalore and kovolam created by the same people who actually created this movement. Taking all the credit for herself for her own good will. She didn't build it, design it, name it, or have a damn clue in the world about the power of skateboard

Because I probably told him. I was one of the 12 volunteers who built this skatepark and I wish people would know more about the true side of the spoiled german lady. In my opinion it´s an absolutely NO-GO that she is not even mentioning us or Holystoked who really were the people behind this project, but she decides to take all the credit for herself. Is that really the price you get, after working you ass off - day and night for 2 months? It´s just unfair and depressing that a woman with a high class standard (not working) gets all the attention just because she has some political connections while the people who really want to do something for the indian skatescene gets a punch in the face year after year.. but she is the one having a great life in a jungle resort, drinking a couple bottles of wine every day, just because she managed to find some stupid people like us who are dedicating our lives to make other people lives better. She got a couple of crores (a couple of hundred thousand dollars) for that project... I wonder where this money is now.. Make your own opinion :)

This is not only a skatepark but something really amazing I can’t put into words. Not only it is just a skatepark that promotes skateboarding as a sport but It has promoted gender equality, education, helping people get rid of alcoholics, also such a nice place for everyone to gather, improving parent-children relationships! Truly inspirational!! This is so awesome to see skateboarding progress in India. Only part which scared me a bit was that the kids are skating barefoot. The grip tape can really damage their feet if they skate excessively or if they try flicking the board to land tricks.
