Thank you for sharing! These cars are so underrated! My 69’ puts a smile on my face every weekend. I’d love to see Moss allow for product reviews so we know what we’re getting ourselves into, IE the headers that didn’t fit correctly.

Just in the midst of rebuilding the front suspension on our Midget and interesting to hear how well this car performs. Really hoping to notice an improvement especially as I went for the superpro bushes too.

In my shop we have an MG Midget with an Austin-Healy Sprite bug eye front end. Many find it controversial I actually think it’s cool. These are fun cars to drive, and the smallest I’ve driven.

I rebuilt one in my college days in the early 80's back in the UK.. Now living in Oregon I wish I still had it or could find another one for rebuild with a few tasteful mods. All the welding I did with a stick welder, didn't even have an angle grinder back in those days!.. Yeah it took a long time as it was a total rust bucket to start. I think if I was getting a paint job I'd have to weld up the holes and get rid of those side marker lights.. To me that just ain't right. Great to see them both, yeah I'm a little jealous..:)

There is a super compact inline (staggered) six from Volkswagen. Would it fit? Anyone done it? I’ve had three midgets (63,67,&76) you’ve got me thinking I need another. Haven’t had one since 83. Financially I could do more than J C Whitney seat covers and top and a driveway paint job lol!

Really enjoying your Midget vids. Your friends car is really neat especially now with the MkI grill and rims. I wish I could find a pair of those rims… my stock rostyles are a bit bent up, so 55mph is pretty sketchy. I have a ‘73 which is finally on the road after a long winter of fixing… everything. Looking forward to more vids… there really isn’t very much Spridget content on YT worth watching so I’m really glad I stumbled upon your channel.

An MG Midget should be British Racing Green Lol, I have not seen many white ones before from memory, but BRG yes, and also Red, Yellow, and Orange :) Nice Project and great work, try to keep it original if you can.

Curious why you both removed the headrests? As someone who has watched my rearview mirror while someone ran into the back of my car at a stoplight, I can say that having them gives me some peace of mind.
@jplacroix4612 жыл бұрын
Super Sweet!!!! Phil's Midget will be almost exactly like mine when he paints it old English white. Did he do a headrest delete on those seats? I've been considering doing that but was concerned about whiplash in the event of a rear end collision (assuming I survive a collision in a Midget ???) Great videos guys, keep them coming.

Would love to see more on yours, JP! I still have the headrests, but I prefer running without them. Safety isn't exactly the first thing in mind with these cars...

Hey man, I see you're in the Denver area. I've been hemming and hawing on a midget of my own but the only ones in my budget would need an emissions test. Any advise on making sure it'll pass?
@SirDrifto Жыл бұрын
If it still has the old evaporative and emissions control you’ll be fine. They’re pretty lax on these old school cars.
@nicklantzy3116 Жыл бұрын
@@SirDrifto That's a relief! This would be my first project car and I didn't want to worry about a huge issue of understanding emissions right off the bat before I get to do more fun restoration stuff. Thanks!

Wondering who the spridget guru is, Tom Colby? Or the guy from Ohio? Seriously, love everything about this setup. Those are excellent upgrades. Loads of drivers ran with stock suspension and springs since Sprites were first introduced for sure and many still do, though those modern shock adapter kits are very tempting but just putting modern seals on the old shocks is a big upgrade on reliability and longevity. I know my dad ran completely stock suspension on his first Sprite racecar (mk 2 sprite he raced in the 60s and 70s) with stock shocks and springs, but he upgraded the front suspension on his bugeye he built in the early 80s with a kit that was popular back then that ludicrously stiffened up the front of that car which I'll keep in place as I rebuild it. The bushings are also a great choice I hope to do next winter on the 77 Midget. Also, backdating the looks, my 77 Midget has an earlier sprite grille and bumperless AND indicator-less? So there's no side markers or front indicators, they're covered with fill kits and then painted over and stock taillight assemblies, though I did add a Sprite license plate lamp to the rear to be legal in NY (as I think the bracket one with the two side lights is hideous), so my 77 looks like an older model. The Datsun transmission is a great choice too. I'm looking at trading our Jeep TJ for a Midget with a Chevette engine and transmission in it, which should be interesting. The last thing I need is another Spridget, but if I can get rid of the Jeep, it'll be an upgrade. Anywho, great video and a couple of sweet rides for sure.

@@SirDrifto yeah, in one of my 4 videos I show the two Sprites I have in my garage from the back, but I don't know the ludicrous piles of spare parts I have in storage or in the garage or at my mom's house , things my dad accumulated over the decades. Like a dozen generators, 15 engines, a dozen shocks, springs, just everything off these cars. But I'm still not married to using 100% authentic even if I have it sitting in a tote. I want subtle upgrades .

Shame you don't know how to fit a luggage rack. When you have your first front end shunt and end up with a wicker imprint on the back of your head and contents flying about, you'll realise the "upstand" needs to go nearest the driver. The straps are to hold it on (which they will) but not in a bad shunt!
