The original Barney is probably the most interesting thing to Barney’s history. I had that exact tape on me as a kid and I was AMAZED at Barney suddenly being “blue”. So much so that I went through a phase where whenever I had a Barney colouring page printed out by my folks. I would colour Barney in blue.

The 1988-1989 version of Barney is still my number 1 favorite, with the 1992-2000 version of Barney being my second favorite Barney that I grew up watching as kid in the 90s too.

When it comes to change of costume, it could be possible that as the kids got older, their imaginations became more refined. And that’s why Barney looks different in his fourth tape. Also, it’s so nice to see an original cast member give you a lovely shoutout! That was so sweet! ✨💜💚💛💜💚💛✨

I have heard the original suit was designed decades ago, which is sad given now more then ever people want to preserve everything, even original costumes. I mean I've seen some talks about people making their own barney suits based of original barney suit but because how lost the history of the original barney suit was/still is some often felt defeated in their endeavors.

Another amazing video as always, my dude. I personally didn’t have much attachment to this costume when I was younger, but I knew it was still Barney, just a lot different. Like you said it best, no matter how he looked, he was still our friend. And I almost got teary eyed watching this, especially with the ending. 💙 Very wholesome. Great video Hedge! I love how much detail you put into your videos. Especially in the remakes of older videos, such as this one. Barney is one of the few franchises left whose history is still being uncovered in such detail, which is great because it's much harder to find details on it, particularly the early history. This original Barney costume is how I was introduced to Barney (I'm pretty sure) when my sister got The Backyard Show for her birthday in 1992. So it's special to me in that regard.

I'm a Gen Z, but I'm thankful that I have a hammy down family that gave me my oldest sister's tapes that was Barney, The Wiggles, Kidsongs, and Mickey's Fun Songs. We still have every Barney tape from Lyons and Lyric, so 96% of the home videos and I knew Barney looked like this. I can see how people can be scared of this verison of Barney because nobody really knew he started as a home video series in 1988 but I was never scared of him.When i have kids I'm getting my VCR and putting a Backyard Gang tape in.

Oh sure yes yes yes BUT if they want to make some new videos during production in late 1989 -1990 the team needs to due some changes for the show like Micheal and Amy's Mom and Dad wasn't that Interesting for the toddlers to watch and Barney like they said when the costume is on camera it's more of a darker blue rather than the purple color that it's meant to be for himself.
