No wonder Muay Thai is so terrifying, when compared to other martial arts. I mean, just the basic stance alone is intimidating af.

Watching these videos and seeing this mastered form in action is inspiring and beautiful. It truly is an art. I'm starting Muay Thai tomorrow and I am so excited I can't eat or sleep! 7 years late, but whatever. I'm so excited just to get my form on and practice space management and positioning and rhythm. I feel there is no rush to this: it's a personal race. Having had bad posture and habits of sitting on my ass for a big part of my life, I'm gonna have to get more flexible before I get to the juicy stuff, like kicks. I don't mind doing the basics for a long time, to get it second nature. Also just gotta say that of all the striking martial arts, Muay Thai really has it all: Fists, Elbows, Knees and Feet. Close combat clenching and sweeping. Conditioning the body and endurance. Insane amount of emphasis on balance. Unique personal style to be developed as you learn. The idea of an exotic Eastern fighting discipline with deep and ancient roots. It is seriously effective and efficient and has shook the world in MMA and Kickboxing arenas. It looks like the fighting form your favorite Dragon Ball Z characters are doing (minus the kamehamehas)

I just love watching Ean. I bet you he was legit as f during his nak muay days... a great trainer also. His calves are monsterous! Haha so many amazing ex Thai fighters and trainers in Thailand right now, it’s awesome to see this content. Great work on basics and having a legit Thai with his input and instructional. Really like the videos. I’ve literally watched thousands of hours watching Thais fight, train, drills, etc. * For anyone out there that is new to Muay Thai, pay attention to these videos. Thaiboxing is nothing more then using the basics of Muay Thai in a rhythmic and tricky/powerful fashion. These videos are great for your basics and to understand true Thai style.

I noticed the rear foot is always up on the balls of the feet. Is the front foot the same as well? Or can the front foot be flat footed from time to time?
@Muaythaipros
@Muaythaipros 5 жыл бұрын
While you should be transferring weight from the front to back leg, not every fighter has all the weight on the balls of the feet the entire time. Some fighters will go from toes to heel and then transfer weight to other foot. So find a fighter whose style you like, and you can mirror that fighters movement.

What I don't get is that if you do the rithm stuff then for a split second you have the weight on one leg. At that point what's stoping someone from timing a kick ?
@exileri191
@exileri191 7 ай бұрын
the rhythm is fairly dynamic when you fight/spar. you move to the rhythm of the fight. the weight distribution can change too (more weight on your front foot fighting an opposite stance opponent to anticipate a rear kick, which you’d check with your back leg). you aren’t locked into that rhythm and cant move out of it. it’s very easy to quickly move the weight to the other foot and check AS LONG AS the weight is balanced across your whole body - which is more or less achieved by shifting the weight back and forth. you’re not planting all your body weight onto each foot when you’re in your stance either, just shifting it around fluidly. the main point is that muay thai doesn’t favour being heavy footed and stiff, which is how you’d see a lot of beginners first touching the sport. rhythm, flow and a sort of fluidity goes a long way beyond the stance. and if all else fails and theyre throwing mid kicks you can’t check, just catch them, evade them or block with your arm. this is my perspective and others may have better things to say but the idea of someone timing a kick against you when you’re just standing in your stance, doesnt really work. there is plenty of that sort of thing, but those are techniques on their own (fakes and such). hope that helps
