@@VendavalezI'm late, but furiten is a restriction applied to tenpai hands in which a player cannot call ron. Usually, furiten applies if you had discarded a tile earlier in the hand. Furiten also occurs if you passed a chance to call ron. If you had called riichi, furiten do not expire.

Yeah it's not a game you can read the manual then dive head in. But that's cool. Give it time. Go with the closed hands, look up a list of possible yakus, give it a look every now and then and things will slowly begin to make sense. Remember to be defensive too. Probably better to give up a hand and wait for the next round instead of giving away a tile someone can win with. Good luck.

One good game to learn right now is a browser/mobile free game called "Mahjong Soul". This video was published like a month before the game went live, otherwise I might have mentioned it. It does a good job guiding players but it holds your hand too much (meaning, it'll tell you when you can call tiles and call victory) so it's a good starting point but then you can move to more complex games.

The open hand rule for claimed tiles (chi, pon, kan) - is that traditional or just a commonplace house rule? After watching Akagi, I was under the impression that the hand is only revealed when "ron" is declared, and all other circumstances allow the hand to remain closed.
@OldGameBox2 жыл бұрын
The moment you take a tile from someone else your hand is declared open. Except for the winning tiles, which is when you ron someone. But don't get me wrong, opening your hand isn't the end of the world. It just limits you on what yakus you can go for, which are the types of winning hands. You can find good mahjong players who claim tiles left and right and win constantly.
