Thanks for the video. My experiences: on glue sticks, the gel works well for me gluing paper to paper or paper to card stock or card stock to card stock and it doesn't seem to crack. But I have to add it liberally, quickly put the two pieces together and a good burnish with a bone folder or it won't work. High heat glue guns are really only needed if your project will be outside in the sun or in an area that gets quite hot. Lower temp hot glue won't hold up say if your gluing shells to a piece of driftwood that will be outdoors in direct sun in summer. For most crafts the low temp is fine. Mod Podge sticky, If you use Mod podge for something like coating book covers and they stick together you can coat it with wax. I use wax paper and low iron, put a sheet of paper between the iron and wax paper. wax paper on the dried mod podged project and iron, but I must warn it is tricky and you have to pull the paper up quickly. It takes some practice. But most times with the matt finish you only get the stickiness when it is humid. Hope this helps some people.

Thanks for this video I bought glue set years ago and they haven't stood up to the test of time. I have watched a ton of videos about adhesive and yours gave the most information and the easiest to understand. The only thing I use glue sticks for is sticking down a quilt edge before sewing because it will wash out.
@sadiejosiemom10 жыл бұрын
I sew and quilt as well as do other crafts. A couple of glues not in your arsenal, but in mine are Fabri-tac and Fray Check. Fabri-tac is a clear, permanent adhesive with a lot of uses but I use mainly for adhering embellishments to fabric. Fray Check, as the name implies is used to keep things from fraying - I use it for the ends of ribbons and laces and sometimes buttonholes. And a good use for a water soluble glue stick is in fabric paper piecing - which is a technique where you sew many small pieces of fabric usually onto a piece of paper (paper is later removed). The glue stick is often quicker and easier to use than a straight pen and it washes out when the quilt is washed. Thanks for another very thorough and informative video. I learned a lot!

I really should have brought out more of the fabric adhesives. I love Fabri-tac adn Fray check. I use them in my fabric crafting as well. Thank you for reminding me of them!

Another great video! (Although, I probably am biased, I love all your videos! Lol) I wanted to share something I love about dot adhesives in case anybody is reading this. When using an intricate diecut such as a leafy tree, instead of using a liquid glue and trying to get it on the entire surface of the diecut, I can flip over the diecut and use a dot adhesive runner and run it across the entire back of that diecut and the dots only will stick to the die cut. Where as a line adhesive would just make a mess and gi through all the holes of the die cut (making it sticky on the front.) I hope that makes sense, I'm not always the best at explaining myself. Lol. But it really helps to have a dot adhesive runner when doing something intricate like that. Especially for me, being legally blind. It is hard to use a glue pen and try to get the glue just on the teeny tiny surface where it needs to be. With a dot adhesive, I can't put it over the entire thing and not worry about missing a spot. I hope this helps someone else. Also while on the topic of adhesives, an adhesive eraser is an excellent tool to have in your craft room! It will clean up all of the seepage from liquid glue, as well as remove tape runner. I could not craft without mine! Thanks for the amazing videos!

Tombow is my favorite and your cons are my pros! The seepage is super easy to remove with an adhesive eraser. Can't do that with other liquid glues. Ugly spots of glossy glue shining on my projects is a huge pet peeve and being able to magically erase the glue is invaluable! For me, the stickiness of the glue when dried is definitely its best attribute!!!

I LOVE this video - going to recommend it to my students in my cardmaking class that I teach at our local Senior Center. My one comment - the red sticky (double-sided tape) that I have found online, has been listed as "Thermoweb" for some reason. It performs like any double sided tape, and, as you mentioned, must be cut with scissors. I teach all of my students to tear their tape with a spare acrylic block, as you demonstrate in several of your videos. I found some very flat blocks at a dollar store here in Texas, and bought several and handed them out at that Senior Center class for them to use the way you do. Thanks for your many tips!

Great Job Amy! There are so many "glue" products out there and I love most of them. But the one I don't like is the glue stick. The only glue stick I use is the Scotch Re-positional glue stick that I re-sticky my Cricut mats. My most used glues is my ATG, Score-Tape-a non brand one,hot glue (can't live without my hot glue) and glossy accents. Tombow (don't like for the reason you don't) I use occasionally. I think you are exactly right, you find what works for you. Now I've been seeing Jennifer McGuire using multi mat medium gel and she says that works great, so I want to try that one. I've never used the E600, but will be getting some because I think it is necessary one. Thanks for a great video Amy!!

I also use Aleene's Tack It Over and Over to make my own glue dots. The great thing is that I can make them in any size I need. They work great for sequins on my cards. They aren't quite as strong as the Glue Dots brand but they hold up great on my cards, for buttons and other embellishments. I just use the shiny paper that labels come on and squeeze little dots of glue out onto half of the sheet, and let it dry overnight. Then to store them, I fold the sheet in half. I just made 6 sheets of it today as I was down to my last one. :)

Great video, I thought I knew all I needed to about adhesives but it turns out that I don't lol. This was full of new info for me. One thing I would add though is climate, some adhesives work better in colder regions and vice versa but other than that you nailed it!! Hugs, Dawn.W x

You are right, I live in a very, very humid climate and I don't have too much trouble with my stuff. But I really appreciate you mentioning this to me, I am sure others deal with different climates too. Thanks!

Do they stick as well as the more expensive? I don't scrapbook as much as I use to so if its just the acid free thing then I would think the cheaper one is ok as long as it stick as well. I alos love my zig ball point ink pen and my xyron. TFS Denise

OH, I didn't mention Xyron! I like that too, I don't have one at the moment. Funny story, my mom ordered me a zebra one for Christmas from QVC and once it came in she liked it so much she kept it! I have not tried the cheaper versions for my ATG, however, I have friends that have used it and they say it works exactly the same. I think some of those less expensive brands are acid free too. Great job loved it Just FYI about glue drying out fast while working on projects. Well here is a fix for that take sponge and cut to fit your glass then add paper towel wet it then wring it out good or a baby wipe and put on the sponge in the glass.Now remove the lid from your glue and turn it upside down in the glass on the damp towel. The glue will be at the end of the bottle and the towel will keep it from drying out. just remember to put the lid back on when done but you can just leave the bottle in the glass upside down for next time just replace the damp towel and go to work. This will work for all glues.Hope this will help. also different glues work best for different area some my be damper and another dry etc... :-}

I have never used spray adhesives and I don't think that I ever will. I use the "Scotch" brand glue stick. The permanent glue stick and I like it. I don't use it all that often, but when I do I like it.

Thanks for sharing that info, I hated to be a hater and I knew someone would have a brand they like. :)

Thanks for the info...however I do not like the E-3000. To me I have problems with spider webs and the glue keeps oozing out.

Regarding Aleene's TURBO Tacky Glue (and similar types). When I am done I turn the tube right side up and tap the bottom of the tube to force the glue in the point end down towards the botttom end. Then try to squeeze air out. If the air comes out the tube it won't plug the opening and it is ready to be used again next time. Hopes this helps you!

I use a lot of the same adhesives, I also use Golden gel medium for my canvases. I started out with Tombow and thought how silly all these ladies were having ten thousand different adhesives... well now I understand lol TFS ~Linda :)

The Tom Bow Mono Runner is almost exactly like the Crafter's Companion runner I swear by. You do have to break to the side. There is, however, a large amount on each disposable runner and I buy them in bulk at a cheaper price. I had rather use these than the LARGE ATG. I checked the price on Amazon and I'm stickin' with Crafter's Companion.

The best trick for using a glue stick is glue to glue...in other words let's say you have a magazine picture and you want to glue it to your art journal page. Put glue on your page first, then glue on the back of your magazine pic then glue it down to your art journal page. I don't know why this works so much better but it does. I was very frustrated with glue sticks too until I noticed another crafter doing it this way and gave it a try, now I don't have issues with things coming unglued anymore.

Hi Maymay thank you yes you have tought me a lot ... me .... and i started to put something else and thought again and decide to keep that to myself till the end......lol I use spray adhesive on my quilts to hold batting, back and front to quilt it then I have no pins or tacking to mess with it does have its place but I agree I don't get close to the edge because of overspray hugs barb

I love zip dry. I use Scotch quick dry most of all. I've never used Tombo and don't know if I would ever need to buy it. But there are SO many kinds that it can get crazy for a beginner Oh and besides E6000 having a fabric glue, it now comes in BLACK. yeah...dee

I have found that Zip Dry has a big following. You either love it or hate it, it makes me a little silly! Those fumes! BUT, it is an awesome adhesive. What! Black! Gotta find it! Thanks!

I agree about the regular glue stick... not a fan....however, I am a fan of the Elmers X-TREME glue stick. Give it a try. Paper to paper dries hard.

Hi, I just started paper crafting, and when I use the tape runners, they a lot of times don.t dispense evenly for me., and I've had the tape coming off the roller What a mess. What am I doing wrong?
@jozicardamama96877 жыл бұрын
I think it will just come with practice. Make sure your tape applicator is straight down on the paper. Also, different brands may behave differently so feel free to experiment with other kinds. :)
@leaarnold32216 жыл бұрын
Barabara Varella I dont like tape runners because when I get one and try to use it after so much I noticed that where would be sections of the roll that didn't have any tape and it just seemed like a waist of money

Just plain brilliant! Now I have a much better idea of what to use or a least try it out. With you on the Aleenis super tacky glue pen..... I cannot even get it out of the pen. So it sits in my stash. Just don't have the strength to get it out or am using it wrong. Don't like it. Great job Amy!!
@MaymayMadeIt10 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kathy, I don't know why it won't work but it is a great idea just too hard to use.
