The Basics of the Horoscope 3 - The Houses

This is the 3rd video in a short course where I talk about what a horoscope is, what is in a horoscope, and how to move around it a bit. I also talk about some of the basic tools we use with the horoscope such as planetary periods, sign periods and transits. This is the course for people who are completely new to astrology.
In this video, we delve into the bhavas or houses of the horoscope. Understanding bhavas can be confusing because there are two ways to interpret them. Beginners often struggle with this concept, but it's essential to consider both types for a comprehensive understanding. We examine a North Indian chart and a South Indian chart, which essentially represent the same information.
On the North Indian chart, Taurus is signified by number two and is located in the ascendant box on this Diamond style chart. This box represents the lagna or first house. In contrast, on the South Indian chart, this box always represents Taurus and is denoted as the lagna box with a slash or sometimes an LG or number one.
After identifying our lagna box, we proceed to explore other boxes such as second, third, fourth... all counted from the ascendant. These subsequent signs won't have numbers assigned to them; they are simply boxes representing their respective positions relative to the ascendant.

Mr Wilhelm your knowledge is impressive but more tham that is the way you teach is incredible. You are really a wonderful teacher. Btw,There is a house system named Krusinsky which divide the observer space in 30 degrees boxes,as you said, and project those cusps into the ecliptic plane. Is that the sistem you use?

All house systems divide the space around the observer into 30 degrees, but there are lots of ways to exactly divide that space, thus the differnet methods. I use Campanus System

@@ErnstWilhelm It's a bit tricky to stop imagining the houses as limited spaces instead of just areas of relevance...When it comes to transits, say...or synastry planet-house overlays, that ask for the exactness...and that I've actually come to trust most, through experience and intuition! As I have discovered that NN's walk through my houses actually marks the significant (positive) shifts in certain areas of life... (so, basically, you expressed my insights 🙃)...Then I got into astro-investigation... And it keeps gettin' deeper... I'm so not into becoming a student, let alone a professional astrologer, just happens to pull me somehow into tryin' and discifering and discovering more and more of how screwed up my chart is!!! 🤣🤣🤣 So twisted...🤣 Anyways, why does your calculator NOT offer all the cusps? 🤔

Thank you Mr. Wilhelm!.. What if -let's say- the ascendant is at the near end of a sign but you have other planets with lesser degrees in the same sign? Do you count these other planets as if they're on your 1st house or as 12th house planets?

when reading concrete house indications like wealth for the 2nd or ability for the 10th, would you use rulers of the cusps or the relevant signs from the cusp or person in question? thanks for the video Ernst.

Simple bhava means equal signs,full sign bhava means whole sign.For Nakshatras determination,used dhruva galactic centre ayanamsa,but for rashi(signs) used galactic plane ayanamsa.Sripati bhava is like the middle takes of equal(vehlow) signs and placidus,so there is intercepted houses like placidus but the house doesn't begins exactly at the rising degrees but a little degrees before. Sign wise rising in capricorn,nakshatra is 3rd pada.What do you do with 9th divisional chart when the point of rising is 0°(2nd pada) of galactic plane ayanamsa?

If I have NO planets in some houses - lets say for example 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th etc - does it mean that those areas of Life has no interest for me in any way?

The house cusps move across the sky at the rate of one rotation per day. So in one day, the cusps will cross all the constellations.

If the 1st house determines the career path of a person and the 10th house reveals the ability to implement those Asc specific skills along that path; then let's take an example of a Virgo Asc - the 1st and 10th house are both ruled by Mercury and Mercury being posited in the 11th house shows working in/through group settings(in a corportion) to earn big gains; Is this right method of interpreting? Because tropically this fit's my overall career path so far to a T. So are all Virgo rising brilliant in following and executing their goals, all other aspects being constant?

It is a humble request from my side to you to make a video for me and other Jyotisa enthusiasts outlining the development of Astrology across the globe chronologically with references. Majority of folks have this preconceived notion that erecting horoscopes, Parashara, Hellenistic zodiacal astrology is a part of original Shashtras. The fact is nothing that we practice today as vedic astrology is actually VEDIC. This myth needs to be debunked. Tvast. Mercury is on your Arudha Lagna in own house. People often do work in the field of planets on the AL since we can become known for these things and Mercury is dig bala there as well, so it is even stronger. This is your sidereal chart however.

Yes I figured that one out in your AL explanations for my chart. After a while, it becomes just too complicated as there are different calculations(like figuring out career from the rasi dasa sign etc.) and some work better or worse in either zodiacs. And I am slowly loosing interest because I have realised that intution is a HUGE part of Astrology and I don't have that neither am I interested to develop it. Although according to Wilhelm's card's of truth my Ketu is associated with nine of diamonds which makes person intutive, I am atleast not intutive naturally.

What careers are indicated by Capricorn Rising with Sun there? (I'm a legal assistant. My first job was in Maritime Law dealing with an oil bunker that exploded and the sea has been a recurrent theme in my life. Something usually to do with oil. Moon in 3rd House of Pisces, would that show this? Leo in the 8th? I don't know).

Astrology is Ketu and the 8th house. So if you don't want to do Ketu things, you can't do astrology! WIth that said, Rahu in 3rd, Ketu in 9th, can make a good astrologer, but Ketu needs to connect to the 8th somehow.

Saturn in pisces is not a terrible position, but i would check other influences to Saturn to see if he will block your knowing of astrology or not.

My 8H is in Leo and it's empty. Ruler of the 8H is in 1H Capricorn. In 12H I have Ketu conjunct Venus and Mercury in the sign of Sagittarius. Mercury rules my 6H in Gemini and my 9H Virgo. Would this explain why I love to study astrology?

I am still confused can someone please explain the sign placements and cusps? How does one interpret the signs with no cusp or planets in signs with different cusp ruler?. Example- Aquarius rising, no cusp on Pisces, 2nd house cusp Aries, 5th house cusp Gemini but Mars falls in Cancer (Pushya)which is in 5th house and 6th house cusp falls in Ashlesha. If there is no cusp falling in Pisces then how does one interpret what house Jupiter rule? What about the 5th cusp being ruled by Mercury but Cancer is part of 5th house with Mars there?

The planet's rule the signs and anything in the sign. So if there is no cusp or no planet in pisces, then Jupiter rules just pisces, it does not rule a sign or cusp. At least not in the rasi chart, in other vargas there are sure to be cusps and planets falling in Pisces. Different techniques require us to use different things. For most yogas, we don't use cusps, we just use signs counted from the ascendant. We only use cusps when we want to study a cusp. So just how to use cusps or not depends on the technique. So learn the technique the way you are taught it and include cusps if its included in the technique.
