With iron sights, if your shot hits above your POA, and you raise your rear sight, your next shot will hit even HIGHER than you previous shot. It’s always about comparing the point of aim to the point of impact. If your shot hit too high, you need to make your rifle shoot lower. To do that, you need to lower the muzzle. To do that, you need to make the rear sight lower so that, as you said, the muzzle will have to come down to meet it.

Thank you! I was so confused on this. Some youtubers were claiming to make adjustments back to the center rather than making adjustments to your shot(s). You da man!!!

This was a very good way to explain this for beginners. I am a trainer so I often watch videos on any topic I can find where people teach something to others hoping to pick up new ideas ans skills for my work. There are a lot of bad instructors and instruction here on KZbin, but I always try to let people know when they do an exceptional job. You have natural teacher/training skills or you are a well trained teacher/trainer. I either case, great job with your video!

Thank you for making this process so easy. For years it has taken me a long time to get my scope figured out and it was just by luck. bro you answered my question in first 3 minutes. i used to always adjust scope bring the bullet up. not with the mindset that i was moving crosshairs down to the bullet hole. man that makes total sense dont see how i fucked that up. thank you, i had already bought a new scope but when having the same problem i turned to you tube. glad i did. thanks again

smokinone951 that messed me up too. I thought my scope was bad because when I turned the turret up the reticle move down, same for left or right. This video helped me realize you are moving the reticle to the POI not to the bullseye.

This guy has it wrong. The instructions for every scope I have had says to bring your shot to the cross hairs. In other words if you shoot low then you adjust your scope in the direction on the turret that says up. That brings your shot up to the level of the cross hairs.

This video makes a ton of sense and I understand the concept. Probably one of the better ones on youtube. I wish I had a one of those stands or mounts that I see other people use to sight in with two shots. Are you opposed to the three shots aimed at the bullseye, followed by adjustments based on shot group?

Your scope instructions are great, got my daughters gun sighted in with two shots and shot a 1&1/2" group at 50 yards, but your iron sight instructions are wrong you move the rear sight the opposite way of your point of impact. i.e. If your bullet strikes the target low of the point of aim, move your rear sight up, this will cause you to raise the front of your gun, in turn raising the point of impact.

With regards to iron sights, if you are shooting low you should raise the rear sight. If you are shooting high, you should lower the rear sight. You have it backwards. Think about it.... if you are shooting low, raising the rear sight forces you to raise the front sight to make a proper sight picture which raises the point of impact. I think you made the verbal equivalent of a typo.... hopefully. The info on the scope is good.

The Daily Shooter, thank you for this video. I've watched several and they get so involved in being technical and rushing through the process that they lose me and I'm sure they lose others. Doing a visual as you did, without a weapon, without going out to the range, you made it easy to understand and thought a newbie in scope sighting how to do this. I'm downloading this video for future reference. By the way, I seldom give praise on KZbin because I find most videos are poorly done and seldom done with the viewer in mind, they make videos to impress us but not to teach us. Thank you for doing this video!

If you get on paper with a scope and there are markings of inches in circles you can see. Figure out how many clicks you need to move the point of aim to the bullet to the bullet. Nobody puts bullets through the same holes on a string very often, so a three shot group would be good. Move the point on the scope to the center of that. The next group should also be there too.

Hey all you 'newbies'. Please note that SOME iron sights have an adjustable FRONT sight , and it can be for either ELEVATION (usually) OR WINDAGE!! It really is RARE for windage adjustment on the front sight, but I HAVE seen a rifle or two. Just remember that not ALL rear sights adjust for BOTH elevation AND windage. CHEERS_ and please ALWAYS shoot safe!
