We’re heading doing the hill at full speed! The case is going together, I have rebuilt the C2 and C3 clutch basket installed!

Great job and great video JT. I would use the petroleum jelly over wheel bearing grease given the choice. They also make transmission assembly lube grease just for seals. Hat tip to the writers/illustrators of the manual. Come on spring I'm tired of the cold and ready for some shop time myself.

Bravo JT! Ditto on working in the heated garage. I’m doing so on a woodworking project because I have no heat in my garage and the man cave is the shop now. Much better than frostbitten fingers. But once again a superb job and a great example of following the instructions. Another step closer to moving on its own.

Bringing the operation inside when you can is the way to go. Cold concrete (or cold dirt , as the case may be at times, is the worst) Good luck on the Case and thanks for bringing us through the process. I would like to build a shop someday (with in floor heat ideally) but mumma has the money earmarked for other stuff. oh well........same old lament through out the ages!

I just completed an inframe overhaul on an 1850 Oliver gas. I would not want to try the basket case transmission. I will just continue to watch your progress.

It was either an 830 with a Case-o-matic torque converter drive, or an 870 with Power shift. 830's never came with Power shift.

JT you need to sell off some stuff so you can afford to insulate and install heating and cooling in your shop. The Vaseline dissolves with heat. I don't think the grease would dissolve as easily.

Awesome sweatshirt JT. What kind of motor is the one out of your old JD combine? I remember our old 300 Massey Combine I believe was a 290? Chevy 6cly. I doubt JD made that engine and if it's a old chevy or ford motor you could find a old truck to put it in. I must tell you I'm so impressed that you can tear into these old tractors and put them back together and they run! It sure makes more sence than leaving them sit and rot away. And I can't wait to see that case all painted in it's black night trim.

The vasoline will desolve when heated and be absorbed into the fluid without contamination. Automatic transmission shops use vasoline all the time.

I once assisted my co-worker put a new seal ring on a pneumatic valve piston. That o-ring was made of hard teflon. It had nearly zero stretch. It took the two of us to pry it on with fingers.

Nice video, JT - very interesting - it went together really well, probably due to the great preparation work you did, new parts and the service manual. It was very detailed. Not exactly sue why they specify Vaseline as it is a petroleum product just like grease - maybe it has the right viscosity for this particular job????? Dunno! Full speed ahead!

Great Video JT, That is a very valuable video, I suggest you give a copy to "case" the only thing that might improve it is a "voice over" of someone reading the Manual, I can still remember a Case 970 doing some field cultivation at a ploughing day that 6 cylinder engine sang it's way down the paddock as the power shift went up and down the rev range, thanks for sharing

My dad's 6600 combine had a 303 gas engine. Apparently it's nothing like yours. It was a hard starter even on a 90 degree day. When it did run it would run hot and drink gas like it was going out of style.

I once saw a 6600 with a gas engine. From what I read it was only the early ones. Always thought a 6600 was a lot of combine for a 303 lol

Vascilean is a great lubricant for putting things together where o-rings are used. It will dissipate with heat and not clog oil passages👍

Glad to see its going together. Now hopefully you have better luck than me. I double split the 1066 to replace some poor bearings and a bent shaft to fix my vibration issue. Got it together yesterday to find out i still have the same issue. Come to find out the rubber In the front crank pulley let loose and is slipping, when it slips that vibration resonates to the transmission...

Bellville spring, you had never heard of one, split an old MF tractor that has a duel clutch, on taking the clutch to pieces to sort out any trouble it may have, the PTO clutch plate is pressured by, you guessed it, a Bellville spring......Excellent video.
