@@TrufflesOnTheRocks I think the "Charro Güero" is a better name. See my reasons in a different comment bellow. Güero is a Mexican slang for "blond", so this would be a blond charro. I get the "Cola" part, but "Cola de gallo" sounds too much like a Mexican riff on the Rabo de galo (I'd sub charanda for cachaca, wich are basically the same thing).

The weird tequila-KZbin influencer push of this drink (with only certain brands) has gotten boring. I appreciate your twist and not a hidden brand ad like many of the others.

Ive had both Batanga and Cuba libre...I prefer the CL. They're both average drinks, something I don't drink on the regular. But when I decide to make one, it's usually s good quality Aged Rum, Mexican Coke or Fentiman's Curiosity Cola, splash of lime, and sometimes with a dash of Angostura bitters.

I'd call this Noche de Botanas (botanas being food that's served in small portions at home, bars, etc). It surely sounds like a drink you'd have over a meal at a bar, talking with friends about life while having something nice to drink.

this drink has to be up there with one of the hardest for me to conceptualize what it would taste like. I can't even imagine what it would taste like with everything being made from scratch

There are multiple versions of mexican coke available. There is absolutely a pure cane sugar version available, though it is harder to find sometimes.

You should definitely watch the video I talked about. Apparently some scientists ran some tests on said “cane sugar Mexican coke” and found high fructose corn syrup instead. 🤷♂️

@@TrufflesOnTheRocks so I watched the video and it really didn't disagree with me unless I miss heard him and he mentioned pure cane sugar but I thought he just mentioned sugar. I've actually found two different bottles from Mexico currently. One does say sugar and is obviously corn syrup but there is another bottle you can get that says "pure cane sugar" specifically. It absolutely could be placebo but I have been able to tell a difference between the two even in a blind taste test. The guy in the video didn't mention the pure cane sugar bottle so I am unsure what bottles were actually tested in the scientific study. I have a friend who's a chemistry teacher so I'll see if I can't have him analyze it and look to see if it has sucrose in it the next time I pick one up. By the way the box he showed of Hecho in Mexico Coke is definitely not the pure cane sugar coke I've seen that bottle pack and it's just regular Coke. The bottles I have found actually list "cane sugar" as the second ingredient.

El Charro Güero
@cronosmu5 ай бұрын
I was going to suggest this actually. I think it's better than the "Cola de Gallo" since it's a direct reference to the original cocktail, which is a "black" charro, opposed to this, which clearly looks like a blond charro (charro güero). "Cola de gallo" is fine, but that sounds more like a Mexican riff on the Rabo de galo.
