This is a film reaction to my first time watching The Batman, released in 2022 and directed by Matt Reeves. Robert Pattinson was FANTASTIC in this film and had me invested the whole way through. Every performance and character was great. Colin Farrell as Penguin shocked me. This film had amazing visuals, score, and story. Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

Robert brought a REALISTIC performance imo. Young boy loses his parents to murder and never gets therapy for it. Spends all his time out at night seeing crime and beating people up. Of course he's depressed, and anti social. If Bruce wasn't that way, I'd honestly wonder if he's human. This is the most realistic portrayal of a hurt Bruce.. Because he is

I know Robert Pattinson can portray an extroverted Bruce, I also like this portrayal for this film. The persona of Bruce is to be used as a weapon, that's the whole point of that side of the character (to help people & to act as a polical weapon, towards those who oppose gotham), I hope we see that for the next film - and Bruce starts realizing that & utilizing it

@@rodentnolastname6612 I don't disagree, but since this is still very early in Batman's life as a vigilante, I like that he has great issues with developing that dichotomy. This movie captured something that is why I love this character. Any project does this, I'll probably love the character. And that is specifically at the end of the movie when Batman jumps in to cut the wire to save the people and then lead them to safety. Why does this appeal to me? Practically every single Batman project gets at least three things down: 1) the tragedy with the parents 2) the no kill rule and 3) the idea that Batman is who Bruce Wayne really is and Bruce Wayne is a mask. But not all the projects get Batman's selflessness and his hopeful side Batman is a character who wants to save as many people as he can. In a lot of the projects, he'll do this by going after the causes of crime: gang violence, drugs, etc. But he also goes about it by giving people jobs, volunteering at shelters, donating his time and money, trying to keep people from needing to turn to crime. He does all these things because Batman at his core cares a lot about people. But he is fighting a losing battle, his enemies just keep coming and crime never goes down, but he still keeps fighting in the hopes that it will make a difference. So many Batman movies forget this selfless side of him. If he is saving people, we rarely if ever see him actively save someone. We see him fight the bad guys which saves people, but we don't normally see him save anybody, besides maybe an opening scene or someone that matters to him. Truthfully, I can't think of another live action Batman that got this down (Batman tossing his scope to the boy in Batman Begins doesn't count but is closer to the idea) I can only think of the animated projects: where he tries to talk Matt Hagen down by giving him hope that his condition can be cured, when he gives Harley Quinn the dress she wanted to buy after she slips back into crime and has to be returned to Arkham a day after she got out, where he dives into a burning building to save a little girl and tells her not to be scared. where he sits on the swing with Ace as she's dying and carries her body away. Where he tries to talk a mentally ill woman down from killing her baby cause he realizes she needs help. When he finds a child who has been kidnapped and tries to comfort her but she is so traumatized that she can't speak, so he sits down next to her until she's ready. In fact there's an idea that if you have a portrayal of Batman and you can't picture that incarnation comforting a small child, you haven't written Batman, you've written the Punisher. Robert Pattinson at the end of this movie is one of the only live action Batmans that I have seen that passes that test cause he actually does it. Even Michael Keaton I can't say passes that test and he's probably the best live action Batman. Point is, the creators of this understood something about why Batman is such an iconic character. Not just cause he rises from this tragedy to find something meaningful in his suffering, not just cause he is a broken character who needs psychiatric help, not just because he looks so cool taking out ten bad guys at once, but because he actually cares about people. Robert Pattinson's Batman did not start out caring about the people, but by the end of it, that became his mission. His purpose went from stopping bad people to saving innocent people and there's a big difference

I really enjoy The Batman. We don't get a lot of Batman as 'world's greatest detective' in movies, and even though he is still finding his footing here I like how much detective work Batman does. I want them to go forward with this noir detective vibe, and do some of Batman's more low-key villains, like Hush or Calendar Man.

This is a great movie, no matter people say Before Robert Pattinson played the Dark Knight, Nicholas Hoult, Armie Hammer, Henry Goulding, and Aaron Taylor Johnson were considered. Before Matt Reeves was picked to direct, Ben Affleck was going to star and direct the film, but was sidelined by Zack Snyder's Justice League, as well as his stint in rehab and his divorce from his wife took it's toll on him. George Miller, Matt Ross, David Fincher, Gavin O'Connor, Fede Alvarez, and Denis Villeneuve were considered for Directing. Jonah Hill was cast as the Penguin, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts and Colin Farrell was cast in the role. Anna De Armas, Ella Balinska, Eisa Gonzalez, Zazie Beetz, Alicia Vikander, Hannah John Kamen and Nathalie Emmanuel were considered for Catwoman. Zoe Kravitz was cast in the role. BLADE RUNNER, Se7en, Klute, The French Connection, Chinatown, All The Presidents Men, Taxi Driver, Manhunter and the works of Alfred Hitchcock were a major influence on this movie.

The reason why The Batman is different from most Batman films is by what it's based on The Batman is heavily based on Batman: Earth One which is very different from main Batman it's a younger version who is new to crime fighting so he's figuring stuff out on his own also The Batman takes inspiration from Lee Bermejo that's why Bruce Wayne looks like an emo kid because Lee Bermejo's Batman is very emo it's dark and gritty and I love it honestly The Batman is my favorite Batman film because for once Batman gets the development he develops as a character he goes from "I'm Vengeance" to a symbol of hope for Gotham City which comes from Batman: Earth One people hated that Batman is a symbol of hope because that's Superman's thing but Batman has always been a symbol of hope for Gotham City that's kinda his thing I would give The Batman a 10/10 it's everything I've wanted from a Batman film and Robert Pattinson definitely earn the title of THE Batman in this film he was amazing I can't wait for The Batman Part II also sorry for the long comment I just really love this film as a Batman fan it's kinda hard to not love this film it's great

Matt Reeves has confirmed in the art of the film book that I happen to own, that the theme for Batman was supposed to sound like The Imperial March cuz he wanted to make Batman as scary as Darth Vader to the criminals which is also why he has a certain way in which he walks. Also when the Batmobile is revving up when you first see it and it stops it supposed to be like intimidation tactic using his car of all things. This and another live action batman I know you haven't watched yet, are my two favorites with Michael Keaton being number 3 for me. Very glad you finally got around to this movie I'm very selective with movie reactions I watch because people react to so many things I don't have time but your channel is one of the few that if I see you watch a movie that I've seen or have grown up with I immediately click on it, because you just do a good job with your reactions. 🦇❓ That being said I look forward to whenever you get back to reacting to more DC films.

The score for The Batman reminded of Darth Vader's villainous music from Star Wars due to a classical source from which both themes took inspiration: Chopin's "Funeral March". The somber, haunting classical tune first appeared in the 1830s and has since become synonymous with death and funerals, conjuring impressions of grief and pain. These connotations are exploited by Williams, who heralds each arrival of Darth Vader with subtle metaphors of death and pain. This is achieved through the opening notes of the "Imperial March," which are an inversion of the opening to Chopin's "Funeral March." The Batman's theme utilizes two of these opening notes in a four-note, repeating pattern that mirrors the half-notes and rising and falling effect of Chopin's "Funeral March." By referring to Chopin's piece, Giacchino can take advantage of the same implications as Williams, except repositioning them from a criminal point of view rather than a victim's perspective. Rather than the innocent members of the Rebel Alliance fearing the death that follows the evil Vader's arrival, Gotham's criminals fear the arrival of vengeance and the Batman. I think that's the main reason why you were always thinking about Star Wars once The Batman's main score kicks in

I was waiting for your reaction to this. As far as live action, this is probably my favorite Batman movie next to The Dark Knight. To me, this had one of what I've always wanted in a Batman film and that is his detective skills. As far as I know no other live action movie before this focused on the detective aspect of Batman like this. Another thing I thought was great was how this movie took a lot of inspiration from the comics, mainly Batman: Year One and The Long Halloween, which are both fantastic comics. The scene where Falcone talks to Bruce about how Bruce's father saved his life and Bruce saw it all was a direct reference to the exact same thing happened in The Long Halloween. But I thought Robert did a fantastic job in his performance. He definitely did amazing portraying an angsty young Batman whose only two years into his career as a vigilante. I also felt the same for Zoe Kravitz's performance as Catwoman. She was incredible. Oh I'm not sure if you've watched any of them but I hope you do at some point. Also I absolutely love the ending of Batman leading the people out the flooded arena and carrying that woman to the stretcher. Those scenes to me is what I love about Batman. He represents fear in the eyes of the criminals. But like Superman, he is a symbol of hope for the people of Gotham. I honestly can't wait for the Penguin tv show and the sequel Part II movie. Though out of the other movies I've watched, I still think I put the animated movies over many of the live action ones but I think I rank this one next to some of the animated ones

@jamesoblivion 11 ай бұрын
'How did she not hit him?' Movies usually make it look effortless to shoot a moving target with a handgun, from meters away, with adrenaline pumping, but it's really not. And Falcone ducked with perfect timing, so it makes sense for Selina to miss. She likely could have hit him with a second shot, but the lights went out. A bit of plot convenience there, that reminds us (along with the stunning cinematography) that for all the gritty realism, what we're watching is a comic book come to life. But Selina missing the shot, under those circumstances, goes in the 'realism' column.

This version of Batman is based on the Year One comic. He's only been doing this for 2 years and the cops still don't trust him. His "I'm vengeance" line is based on the 90s animation where Kevin conroy famously said. "I am vengeance. I am the night. I am Batman!"

Robert joked to the media that he wasnt going to bulk up or work out for the role. But in the end he put on 25lbs of muscle. And got his body fat to under. 12%. However unlike previous batman actors it took him over a year to get in shape. He refused to use steroids, or growth hormone. And wanted to build the body naturally. So Robert Paterson is that jacked right now.

When Robert Pattinson was first announced, I remember being rather incredulous, like I'm sure many other Batman fans were. I thought: "Robert Pattinson? Isn't he only good at playing brooding, emo, goth teens like sparkling vampires?" Everyone kept saying the trailer actually looked really good and I just kinda ignored it. And when I finally actually thought about it, I realized..: Batman actually *is* a brooding, goth-ish (I mean he lives in *Gotham* City), and technically, emo superhero, if not *the* definitive one. Just one we've almost always seen fully grown and matured. If he's playing a younger Batman, like at the start of his career, that could actually work out really well. And when I finally got to watching this, I was shocked at how really good the film's overall execution was, really almost like a horror/murder crime mystery.. and how good his performance was.. (like I'm sure many other Batman fans were). I ate my previous words and thoughts. Personally, this is more enjoyable a recent Batman story than Nolan's films. I liked how while Batman's fighting and action were capable, it was completely unrefined, almost thuggish, while his primary focus was as a detective, and the story unfolds like a mystery. And now I'm really interested to see where Matt Reeves takes this series from here..

The "Star Wars" sounding music that reminded you of the Imperial March... John Williams was very influenced by Gustav Holst's "Op 32 pt 1 - Mars, Bringer of War". You'll hear both this movie's theme and the Imperial theme's foundations in Mars, The Bringer of War.

Really? I loved it. It shows that Joker is a near intellectual equal to Batman. Every carefully chosen word shows Batman and Joker trying to read each other. It’s basically a verbal chess match. They cut it because thought it distracted from the main storyline, not because it wasn’t a great scene. The fact that it was a great scene is why they released It online right along with the movie’s theatrical release.

One of the aspects I love the most about this movie is how Bruce Wayne doesn't really exist. Bruce doesn't place any value on Bruce Wayne, he doesn't care what happens to himself and while he uses being Batman as a way to battle crime, he also as a self destructive tool. It sets up a lot of potential for Bruce's developmental arc over future films as we can see at the end of the film that he realizes what he has been doing doesn't work. I loved how almost teenagery he feels, and the talk he had with Alfred in the hospital was perfection. I definitely hope the future films build upon Bruce Wayne (I don't need party playboy Bruce Wayne but just enough that Bruce himself starts to learn how to exist again cause he deserves better) and I think they could utilize characters from Batman lore such as the Robins in order to showcase this development. Aside from my enjoyment as a fan of Batman and his mythos, the film is beautifully done. I love the soundtrack and aspects like the religious imagery (for example with Riddler's plan) and the usage of the colour. Great performances all around, especially if you spend the whole movie just staring at Pattinson's eyes. Alfred and Bruce's relationship was a highlight for me.

The “instant punching juice” is a shot of epinephrine, (adrenaline), so he could push through the fog and keep fighting. Some people theorized that it could have been Bane’s super steroid “Venom,” because of it’s green color (epinephrine is colorless), but that has been debunked by the Writer/Director. It was made that color for dramatic effect. Similar to the C4 explosions in the movie being giant fireballs, when C4 is essentially flameless.

the first time I saw this movie I watched it dubbed in Portuguese and the riddles kind of lost their meaning when translated, but after I watched it the second time in the original language I was like "oooooh makes sense", especially in the "you are el rata alada" riddle that sounds like URL rataalada. Btw rataalada was an actual url that had some riddles in it and you could get access to some extra scenes with the Joker. Unfortunately if you try to go to the site today you will see that it has been "taken down by the Gotham police department", but the extra footage is all available on youtube now.

🦇❔❓ (Red and white for me.) Thank you for the watch. I really enjoyed Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy... I wasn't expecting to enjoy this movie, but I was surprised at how effective it was. I think I like just about every choice that they made. Even the length. It did feel long watching it, but I think it was intended to, and sometimes the length can be off-putting, but in this case, I think it worked very well. As for the reaction: It's you. I always enjoy your reactions. I'm sorry you had troubles editing it, but I'm glad you got it going. I wish I could offer you some assistance, but my computer skills peaked in 2002. Whenever someone complains about the runtime, I ask what you would cut... And whether or not you would get bored. If everything was necessary (and I'd argue it was) and you were entertained throughout, I don't think that's a valid criticism. As a first film, this film had a lot of world building to do. Plus this is a young Batman. I would complain if they chose to rely on previous incarnations for characterization. Bottom line is if a film is 5 hours but the pacing works and I'm engaged, I don't care. Conversely 90 minute movie can be a complete waste of time.

It's totally possible to enjoy a movie and still be bothered by the length of it and that was me as soon as the credits rolled. You might never feel that way and that's fine! I know the runtime won't bother me after a few rewatches, like other longer movies I enjoy.

Well it makes sense that Bruce is still angsty and has PTSD.. he’s still young Bruce/Batman in this movie and literally in his 2ND YEAR. He’s not going to perfect and he’s still unhinged.. or a work in progress. He didn’t care about his family’s legacy in the public image. But obviously just being BATMAN isn’t going to keep his true identity safe. He’s going to have to step out into the public as BRUCE WAYNE. So yeah luckily he figured that out in the end of the movie. I’m certain in the next movie, we will see him becoming more of that billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne.

Interesting to see your take on this movie. One of my big negatives was the lack of heart. I hated the Alfred/Bruce relationship in this movie. Bruce is too cold towards him, the first scene they have is Bruce overreacting and saying “you’re not my father”, that’s 3rd movie stuff lol. Bruce doesn’t even seem to care about the city. It feels like he is running an experiment. In the Nolan movies, Bruce really cares, and so you constantly feel the stakes. The movie has so much style. Music is great, the world is well realized, some truly artistic shots, even the color grading is great. At times it feels like an A24 film. Some minor complaints I have, some of the “artistic decisions” are silly. Example, watch Batman walk in some scenes, he is moving impossibly slow. Turn the music down and it’s funny as hell, it’s like he’s trying to move in slow motion. The Batmobile introduction is great but it takes forever while all the characters just watch. I love that this movie explores Batman “the worlds greatest detective” but unfortunately Batman doesn’t really figure anything out in this movie. Stuff just happens and he reacts. Also I hope they go back to the drawing board with Joker. What the showed in the end credit scene and deleted scene was bad.

The thing I really liked about this Batman is how they show Bruce wearing black eye makeup when he takes his mask off instead of it just appearing when they put the mask on and disappearing when the mask comes off. This one is a bit more realistic all the way down to the Batmobile. He’s also more of a detective in this film like he was in the comics. Not so much of the action crime fighter that the other movies have done. That’s why in some films with Ra’s Al Ghoul he calls Batman “the detective”. 4:21 he was probably tracking this gang knowing they were doing an initiation which was the kid with half painted face. 5:23 this Batman is also not far into his start and still getting the hang of it. 8:58 it’s hard to believe that’s Colin Farrell. He said when he came out of makeup his son was utterly horrified at the transformation he went through. He even went to a local Starbucks dressed as the Penguin and no one recognized him but some stared at him. During Covid Colin started really working out and the costume crew had to keep modifying the fat suit he wore and the crew finally told him he had to stop working out until the film was completed. 18:17 Matt Reeves based this Riddler on the Zodiac serial killer in California. Also when you hear Falcone refer to Batman as Zorro this is an Easter Egg that refers to other Batman origin stories where he and his parents went to see Zorro the night they were killed and it was Bruce’s idea for them to go see it so his guilt was deep.
