Mr Ballen, I want to say Thank you for posting a link to this channel. I love stuff like this. In the mid 70's I would listen to "Theater Radio" on a local am station. I was a ten year old boy when Mt. Saint Helens erupted in May of 1980, and if there’s one thing that I remember thinking as the immense eruption blanketed the land all around with ash, it was questioning how anything could possibly survive tons and tons of material falling so quickly. Perhaps people haven’t been able to find those creatures any more because they were buried in a North American Pompeii.

Excellent, as per your usual guys! 👏🙌👍👍 Yes, these beings exist, I've seen them 4 times as a kid. Twice in a moving vehicle (my dad was driving both times, & he liked to put the cruise control on at 70 mph), & twice within 15 - 20 feet from me, while I was blackberry picking on the side of a highway when I'm was 13. The 1st time we were driving in northern California, coming from our home in Southern Oregon a small town called Klamath Falls, we were going to Susanville CA. It was big (to my 10 year old eyes it seemed like it was at 12 feet tall), it was running from the side of the road & jumped across the left lane into the middle then jumped again to the other side of the embankment, it never slowed down or looked at us, he (I've always thought that it was a he) had long dark brown hair not fur. The next time, I think that we were near Redding CA on the I-5, going towards highway 97 back home to Southern Oregon. This time it was a smaller one with reddish-brown hair (it didn't look like fur but more like human hair), & it was a female because she had breasts, she looked to be about 5'5 - 5'7-ish, she ran across the road & went down the embankment, I was in the back with my younger siblings (who were asleep, it was past midnight), & dad was driving, & mom was in the passenger seat sleeping also, I quickly turned & looked out the back window, & I saw a little one - maybe 3-4 feet tall, with dark brown hair, it ran across the road following the other one (quite possibly it's mama) it stopped at the side of the road & looked at us as we drove away, & then it ran down the embankment too.

I live an hour away from Ape Canyon and I have fly-fished every river and lake in that area. I nearly always fish until too dark to see then head back to the truck. I’ve heard whoops and tree knocking and had rocks thrown into rivers near me but not at all close to me. I think they were always just letting me know they are there, although I didn’t know it at the time. It can be extremely unsettling, to say the very least!

A guy I knew almost 40 years ago told me he experienced the same thing, only it happened in upstate New York. He and his brothers were fishing in a very remote lake. He said that they hiked for most of one day getting to it,after parking their van on a dead end dirt road, and camped by the lake the first night. According to him, his youngest brother woke him and his other two brothers up, because he heard something walking nearby. They didn't hear anything, so they thought it must have been a deer, and went back to sleep, after convincing their youngest brother it wasn't nothing. The next day they were mainly fishing, and cleaning what they had caught, and towards evening, they started hearing whoops and sounds like someone bashing a tree with a baseball bat. He said they didn't think anything of it,other than a bunch of rowdy kids were partying somewhere, and weren't aware of he and his brothers being there. It sounded to them like the noise was some distance away, and they couldn't see anything, and after almost an hour it stopped. Later on after they had been asleep for some time, he said that the knocking and whooping had started again, but had gotten closer and louder, and seemed to be coming from every direction, and they could hear sticks cracking like someone or something, was walking heavily through the forest. Then, all of the noise abruptly stopped, and he said that was somehow the worst thing, and they could feel that they were being watched by something that they couldn't see. They didn't get anymore sleep that night, so when the sun started coming up, he said that they packed up all of their stuff, and hiked the trail back to their van, looking over their shoulders often , because they had the feeling that they were being closely watched all the way.

So im from Oklahoma, had two bizzare experiences EVER and I will NEVER forget it. The 1st experience was when I was teenager, my dad took us to see one of his lontime friends who live in the middle of the woods in Muskogee, long story short his house was seated ontop a hill surrounded by woods. That season it rained a lot in April and when we got out the car to explore me and my sister, we immediately noticed his two german shepherds acting strange. We followed them down the hill and there were these huge big foot imprints in the mud! We thought it was odd but never did it cross our minds bigfoot because my dads friend was a big Italian man and we figured he just decided to walk barefoot one day outside his house (he never walks barefoot we later learned). At the end of the day nothing happend UNTIL, I walked back to the car and as I sat there waiting for my sister and dad to return to the car, I looked over my shoulder towards some bushes and there! I froze, almost passed out, the hairs from the back of my neck stood up, my heart was racing because a man like beast or gorilla looking thig was looking straight at me! I never took my eyes off it! As I sat there on shock staring at it, it pixelated infront me and vanished!!! Disappeared!!!!! Then my mind was so confused!!!!! I was like did I just see what I think I saw!???? Never again did I experince a bigfoot sighting but my second experience was not a bigfoot but another cryptid and one I absolutely did not believe in until I saw it cross the road 3 years ago, yes recently! Dogman. Im starting to believe these creatures are in fact interdimensional because theres no way!!!!!!

@@DavidGarcia-oi5nt Its possible that we have found evidence but for what ever reason our government or the people behind the proof is keeping it a secret for what ever reasons. I could argue that the mountain gorilla was considered a cryptid too until fairly recently that it was discovered. Also bear bones are never found easily on the ground either I mean the natural elements can decompose anything fairly quick.

I’ve been looking forward to this channel covering this story. As always amazing work! One thing I noted is this version seems different from the story I heard/read about over the years. First, from what I remember it was just two of the miners who initially encountered a sasquatch watching them from behind a tree, when they went to a spring to get water. They shot at it but they missed and it just ran away. Then the following night the attack occurred. From my memory no rocks fell through the roof and the hole in the cabin was only large enough for an arm to fit through so the creature wasn’t able to swat the son but instead tried to grab the ax. I don’t remember Beck getting knocked out as again I’ve never heard rocks coming through the roof. After the attack ended before dawn, they sneak out and see one creature watching them by the cliff and they shoot at it, hitting it and causing it to tumble down the cliff. The last thing, is that the group swore not to tell the story to anyone for fear of nobody believing them, but one of them (I believe it was Beck) broke that promise. Fred Beck has a book about his experience as well. Now I want to clarify that I’m not saying their version is wrong. I highly respect and love this channel and never would say anything negatively about them. Just noted that it was a little different from the version I know.

I agree with you. I’d always heard the version just as you said. When I heard the creatures reached in but didn’t grab the axe I wondered whaaat? I live across the river in Longview WA and you aren't exaggerating. There have been bigfoot tracks and sightings in places that can barely be considered 'outside of town.' I find it amusing that so many write these sightings off as hoaxes or misindentification and just don't believe they exist. You see a 9 foot Ape man run across a rural road in 3 steps on two legs and stare at you like you just pissed in his corn flakes, it's a pretty good chance you aren't looking at a black bear or some clown in a costume.

Something to point out between the versions put forth between Bedtime Stories and Bob Gimlin's accounts of this story: 1. Beck's account was not fully recorded until 1967 by his son Roger who informed that the story was embellished from what was originally recorded. And even then, Fred Beck never referred to the creatures as 'gorillas' or apes, but rather Moutain devils as he was a spiritualist who believed them to be spirits hostile to his group. 2. It was Marion Sr, not Beck, who shot at the supposed Saquatch-like creature, but newspapers after would claim Beck shot and killed one of the creatures. Also, Beck never claimed he had killed any of the creatures, and even Marion doubted he had hit the beast with his shot. Roger reported that Fred and Marion were alone when this encounter took place, though. 3. Beck and his company had actually been to the supposed area where the incident took place in 1922, and they had found tracks pertaining to the creatures during that venture in the dirt near their cabin, so they were already aware that something lived in that vicinity which put the fear of God in them. 4. Beck allegedly told his companions not to talk about the encounter to anyone, but their story was out within 24 hours of arriving in Kelso. Despite this, none of the team ever actually went back to the site of the attack, so the newspapers groups dubbed several different sites as 'Ape Canyon' and even posed several 'actors' to stand in for Beck's team, with pictures and everything. Take what you will from both versions, however, they are both informative and interesting to look into.

@@The_ZeroLine That's the thing, so many of the mysteries the channel presents oftentimes come across various conflicting resources. Sometimes as a writer, you need to pull together the best possible script in order for story to do well. Back when we covered The Boys from Yuba City, I had barely heard of that case and found very few news articles about the subject, but went and did the best I could. Nowadays you find a lot of video content on the case but back then there wasn't so much attention paid to the subject and a lot of people even today leave comments about how they'd never heard of the case.

@@The_ZeroLine Actually Nick, we don't change or embellish stories at all. We just take the info we find online and present it as we find it. If there are alternate versions to the story, we usually say so. I have to be honest, in this case I wasn't aware of any of the points mentioned above by Red and it just goes to show how the original accounts can become distorted by years of telling and retelling. It was so significant that the Brazilian airforce had to be sent to the area to investigate and then witnessed the craft themselves. It’s very well documented. The name of the investigation carried out by the Brazilian airforce was operation plate or ‘Operação Prato’ would love to see an episode about this incident on the channel

Okay, I really have to ask where this version of the Ape Canyon story comes from. There's several details that are at variance with everything I've read over forty years. For instance, rocks actually smashing through the roof, one of the apes trying to climb inside, etc. Beck did say he shot one of the creatures and sent it tumbling into a ravine, but when it was spotted it was in woods and the thing kept peeking at him from behind the trees, obviously stalking him. He thought there was a second one, but wasn't sure - if there was it kept in hiding after the first one was shot. Far different from the dramatic meeting of five men and four bigfoot on a mountain trail.

From when they saw them during the day all the way to throwing rocks at them into the cabin? No, that makes less sense then claiming hairy ape men attacked them. They would have stopped messing around the moment one of them got shot at

In today's video (published 8/14/22) the picture of the beast holding a boulder over his head with a full moon behind it, would've made an amazing album cover for several metal bands back in the 80's! I remember a slightly different version of the battle of ape canyon. The men went to get water at twilight, spotted something across the river and one of them shot at it, missing. Then the group of five apemen shouted at them and threw stones, chasing them back to the cabin. The other change was when the one reached in to grab at them, it blindly snatched a bag and tossed it out of the cabin before then grabbing a firewood axe and trying to leverage it out of the hole at which point it was shot with a pistol. The rest after that was the same except it mentioned there was also constant yelling so no one was able to fall asleep. Then in the aftermath examination the stones scattered around the cabin were still there and some naysayers tried to claim it was an avalanche that terrified them into hallucinating.

Very cool to hear a story from my neck of the woods! I myself have heard the "howl" one night. Never really believed in anything supernatural until that. I don't know what to make of it but I now know beyond a shadow of a doubt there is something out there that defies our current understanding of nature. Maybe a seeahtik, maybe something else I'd be willing to accept just about any explanation after hearing that sound that night. Thanks again BTS. Best there is!

I've heard this encounter retold, I don't even know how many times, but this is the first time I have heard mention of the Sasquatch actually breaking holes through the cabin. Or of Fred Beck getting hit in the head with a rock, or any rocks making it inside the cabin.

None of that happened, it was a later embellishment. Fred Beck gave his first hand account to his son in 1967 who wrote it down in a book called ‘I fought the apemen of Mt. St. Helen’s’ - well, I say book but it was more of a pamphlet. If you search the name on KZbin there is a full audio reading of it, it’s about an hour long. Fred himself said that the cabin had no windows, that they were asleep when the attack started, they certainly hadn’t prepared for it. The roof never caved in, though some smaller debris did come down the chimney, and, whilst he heard he’d been knocked unconscious that never happened. Worth a listen 👍🏻

Still catching up on your videos, but I was delighted to see one of the most famous stories in Sasquatch lore covered on one of my favorite channels! 1924 was apparently an eventful year between this and the Albert Ostman abduction. The behavior described in both accounts, while predating the bigfoot craze of the latter half the of the 20th century by three decades, is surprisingly consistent between each other, in relation to millennia of Indigenous lore and countless much more recent accounts. Great work, mates!

It could be possible. It depends on if the director/screenwriter grew up in the area. If they did then they probably heard whispers about the Seeahtik in the community which probably in turn inspired them to incorporate elements into the predator.

14:10 The YMCA story pushes credulity. Given the role gunfire plays in the tale its odd that the supposed pranksters would persist despite the danger to their lives. Honestly, I'm not sure if the Ape Canyon story should be believed either; I just think Beck and his associates are more likely to be the perpetrators of a hoax than the victims of one. But it's a fun yarn to hear either way.

Every time I hear this story, there seems to be new embellishments to the original account which I first heard over 50 years ago. When I first read the original account long ago there was a black and white photo of Fred Beck and his appearance reminded me of the character Grandpa on Hee Haw, so if you ever watched Hee Haw and knew who the Grandpa character was, this might give you an idea of what Fred Beck actually looked like. Just for the record, this account has deviated quite far from the original story.
