I’ve spent my 41 years living in the shadow or Rainier. I hunt, fish, spent years as a volunteer for Pierce County SAR... I’ve never seen anything to say there is a Bigfoot, or anything like that. However, in some of the darker parts of the cascades and Olympics, I’ve heard things I can’t identify, I’ve seen elk herds spooked by things unseen, and even cougars break cover and run from something I couldn’t get a visual on. Stay alert, use your head, don’t eat the mushrooms, and carry.

Imagine yourself born to be the guardians of a ruler 7000to5000 years ago for a civilization advanced, forgotten but not lost, you were the best of the best, Now imagine taking a curse to protect this ruler and having what made you human, your memories of family loved ones, crushes stripped away from you, what you have left are old weary souls killing at their zenith waiting for their ruler to return to free them

Yeah first thing I learned about nature: never go alone. The guy at 13:30? he was alone. There's no telling what killed him. For all we know a puma may have ripped his throat out while he slept. Most catamounts aren't man eaters, but mountains lions are known to be opportunistic predators. The story cites a lack of struggle, but if a large predator kills you in your sleep you might go to the pearly gates not knowing how you died. Nature doesn't care what we think it's rules are. It'll kill you in a heartbeat if you make a mistake. The description of his campsite sounds like a mistake. It's just large enough to be easily noticeable, but has no protection. If I was to guess how he died: he was up late watching for prey, not in a tent, but sitting under that tree where they found his weapon. Eventually he got tired and fell asleep. He didn't see what killed him. As for why his campsite wasn't ransacked, it's possible there was simply no scent of food coming from the crates. This guy may have been overconfident, but he was highly knowledgeable. Food sealed in air-tight plastic bags that are also sealed in airtight boxes has little to no scent. It's not only a way to avoid scent but a good way to keep food from being destroyed by moisture. As a simple example, I once told a woman who was hiking "don't stand on the other side of that rock." It was a large piece of granite on a hillside, she probably thought it was an outcrop, but it was actually a boulder supported by loose gravel. If she'd shifted her weight to the other side, the boulder may have slid downhill. This wasn't the backside of nowhere. This was one of the slopes of Pike's Peak in a popular area to hike. I'd never seen that woman before or since. It was a chance encounter that happened due to the area's popularity. If this had been the backside of nowhere, and she had slid downhill on a boulder, her body might never have been found. It's just that easy to die in the wilderness.

Iv'e experienced "The Silence". Three friends and myself were fishing on a jetty in Sussex Inlet which is in southern New South Wales Australia. It was a warm and sunny day when we arrived and we quickly got our fishing gear out, cast out and then sat down. The birds were chirping, the water lapped and we chatted and laughed. Suddenly, the birds became silent, the water too made no sound and our conversation just stopped. I felt strange, like I was in a dream, and I could not take my eyes away from the water. I sensed that there was something beneath it approaching rapidly and I was in danger. I sat for a short moment longer, my logical brain telling me not to be stupid, my gut screaming at me that I needed to run. It drew closer and I could not suppress the need to flee any longer. Without a word to the others I stood and quickly began to reel in my line and my friends did likewise. We grabbed our gear and ran to the car. It was not until we were well away from the place that we discussed what had happened. All of us had experienced the eerie silence, a dreamlike state, a fear of there being something in the water and a frantic desire to flee. We have never returned to that place.

MELODY MUNRO It’s crazy you share this story, I also visited Sussex Inlet in 2015 for a short getaway and I felt off the entire time, we visited the beaches and lakes but my memory of the trip is hazy and quiet like I was in a daze or dreamlike state the whole time, I can’t even remember anyone talking to each other even though we obviously did, my mum drove us to the spot she used to camp when she was a kid and all I remember was seeing the lake edge and wanting to leave, it wasn’t until we were heading home and stopped at a beach further up the coast that I felt back to normal, I don’t know if I experienced the silence but a subconscious part of me could sense something strange in that town.

The most common reason for the silence is because of a predator entering the area. Our bodies respond when notice the lack of sound from common wildlife by naturally staying alert so we won't ignore it and get eaten. Having experienced it myself i can say that it is not always the case. And that silence is one hell of a reason to not enter those parks without protection.

It's the same thing that makes people socially yawn. One animal gets spooked and quiets down, then nearby animals react to that and do the same and before long the whole area is silent as a crypt. It's definitely scary to experience, but the fear you feel isn't grounded on anything.

I live in rural North Mississippi. Several years ago a teenager, now a young man, who was an avid outdoorsman had gone fishing in a nearby pond on the edge of deep forests in a small boat kept there. When he failed to return home his Father went to investigate. He found the youngster in the center of the pond in the boat. The boy urged his Father to get away but was reassured and finally rowed to shore. He had seen something that had terrified him and that he will not speak of and to this day will not any longer venture into the forest in which he had previously spent a great deal of his youth hunting and exploring.

The unease you feel when you experience The Silence is completely instinctual. That quiet is all the prey animals in the area telling you there is a predator around and so on a primal level you know to be careful. You experience it a lot when stand hunting, because the forest has its own soundtrack. You get used to hearing all the rodents scurrying beneath the leaves and squirrels squeaking away in the trees. Suddenly it all stops like someone hitting pause on reality. Its surreal every time and puts you on high alert.

I could imagine! I have heard reports of the insects going quiet as well....have you ever experienced such an occurrence? With the recent reports of possible "sonic" attacks on American Diplomates in foreign, possibly hostile to the U.S., countries (Cuba, China, etc ), I have begun to wonder if infrasound is a way prey animals communicate to alert each other to predators in the area....it may also be picked up by the insect community....

Always listen to your instincts. My wife and I stopped in the woods, in West Auckland to walk a track. After we parked the car in the parking area, I walked ahead about 100 metres up the track, when suddenly all the hairs on the back of my neck sprung up and i immediately stopped turned and told my wife to get back in the car. Another car had also arrived in the carpark and a young women and her 7 - 8 year old daughter, were also about to walk the track. I told them to get back in their car and leave as there was someone down the track and I felt there was danger. Whatever my instincts tell me, I bloody listen.

Same thing happened to me. Old abandoned woods on the foot of the mourne mountain range in Northern Ireland. I hike there a lot, maybe 30 times over a year. This one day, I was alone, on the base of the trail up the the mountain I was hiking that day, dirt path, forested on either side, the area on the left always creeped me out, this one day I decided to take a walk in just to see what the forest looked like inside, a beautiful day, really hot, no wind, I made it about 30ft in, was very dark and silent, like I could hear my own heartbeat, something in my chest was begging me to turn and run, but I thought I’d wait as long as I could. I stood silent, no noise whatsoever for maybe 4-5 minutes, and I KNEW something was watching me, I 100% knew it, but I didn’t know what, I said sorry I didn’t mean to intrude, I turned and slowly walked out, checking over my shoulder every few seconds. I’ve been in, and even camped deep in pitch Black Forests before and been fine, but this place, even being yards from the trail, on a roasting bright summer day around noon....I felt pure fear. Something was in there, we have NO wild predators in Ireland at all, no bears, snakes, Wolves or cats, but something was watching me. I think we have an extra sense that we don’t normally notice, and it can either sense others intentions or sense the future or sense SOMETHING That our other 5 cannot, and it tells us.....”get the hell outta here or you’ll regret it” lol. Anyway, seems I’m not alone in that. I have great respect for the forests and the trees, I believe they are aware as everything is aware.....I may go back there during the summer again, this time not alone and maybe record it, it’s as intriguing as it is fearful unfortunately.

I've experienced nature going quiet while I was hiking in the woods. The birds stopped chirping, stuff stopped moving around and I stopped walking. Then I ran my ass off back to where I hiked from. There's a native saying that in a hunting party, the front and back people always get taken. Like how wolves pluck off the old, the slowest and the weak. Also people who wear bright colors (bright green, yellow, white, red) when hiking get taken.

Same here. Just this august, i was hiking around off trail in the mountains near my grandparents' vacation home. I would consider myself an outdoorsman and have been going into woods solo since my pre teens. At the time, i was walking through an area i hadnt explored before. At one point, the entire forest went dead silent in a second. I got that sinking feeling, but i had that feeling before and stayed mostly calm despite the overwhelming sense of being watched washing over me. I pulled out my knife, the only weapon i had that day, looking frantically around the small clearing i stood in. After about 2 minutes, i figured that the best course of action is to gtfo of there. I booked it out of there, and unfortunately didnt get another chance to went that far into the woods in the summer of 2019. This year i am going back as usual, paranormal stuff does happen in woods very often. You have to be prepared for it and remain cool headed. Dont be like me and take someone with you, its always safer when you have multiple people. There is something out there, so stay safe when going into the treeline.

19:00 “Why do helicopters with infra-red fail , etc. to find them?” Because any search of huge areas is hard. If you watch the “Wonder” channel series on people lost, etc. , you know that they all repeatedly see planes, helicopters or boats, if on water, that fail to spot them. One episode on a true story quoted a man lost in the Australian outback as saying “by the tenth time I saw a plane, I just cursed the pilot.” This is nothing against the skilled, dedicated people who search by plane to help others. It is just very difficult,as one described it as “ trying to see a squirrel in a tree driving past a forest at 65 mph.”

I've spent a lot of times in the woods and the back hills starting at an early age, a very experienced backwoodsman. I never go into the woods without being well armed and aware. I have experienced a sudden stillness on numerous occasions, it usually means a predator is around, and it's time to be very alert. One a few occasions, though, it was more than that. Along with the sudden stillness, the light changed. Kind of hard to describe, but it is sort of like it goes from being normal daylight to a golden hue, but doesn't dim, for a few minutes, it gives a very surreal feeling. This happened in Ohio, I didn't see any figure or anything, but did have the feeling of something moving nearby that I couldn't see. My current house is a cabin in the woods out of the way in the deep south. Not remote, but not near much of anything either. One time at night it got very still, and I heard something making an unreal warbling growl off in the woods about 100 yards from my house. I know the sound of everything in my area, as well as the rarer animals, like panthers, etc. that don't come around much. I have never heard anything like it in my life, and even my dogs were hiding from it. It stood the hair up on the back of my neck and my arms. I've never heard it again, and hope I never do.

I had a similar experience. I live in southern Wisconsin out in the country on about 40 acres. I have neighbors but they are few and far between, kind of out in the middle of a large area of farmland mixed with large areas of dense woodland. I've lived here about 5 years now. When I first moved here it was late September in 2013. I had made some changes to the property like adding a chain link fence for my dogs and set up a shooting range in a old rock quarry on my land. Anyway I wasn't here for a week or two when one night at about 10 pm I opened my back door to let my dogs out and as I was standing there waiting for them to come back in, I suddenly heard a very strange, very loud animal call of some kind that I've never heard again the rest of the time I've lived here, and I spend a lot of time outdoors hunting and what not. At first it sounded like the low end of a siren then quickly turned into a very disturbing screaming/screeching howl that repeated 3 times. The screeching part had a very eerie, almost human like quality to it. The "low end of siren like" beginning could in no possible way be made by a human, and I've never heard another animal call that had the same deep base that I could actually feel. The creepiest part was I could tell it was coming directly from my right from what I felt like was less 100 yards away from the southern facing hillside that lies to the north of my house, and I could literally feel the base vibrating my chest, it was obviously a very large animal of some kind. I was armed at the time and all I could do was stand there in fear with the hair on the back of my neck standing on end. My dogs, which are usually very courageous, were obviously intimated by it and scrambled back inside and were hesitant to go back out even hours later. I've heard screech owls, foxes, coyotes and pretty much all the native animals that live here. None of them match what I heard that night and I've never heard anything like it again. I feel like whatever it was was letting me know it wasn't too happy that I was changing things and was trying to scare me off or try to let me know this was its territory. I also hope I never hear that again, and stay armed when I'm outside just in case even though we don't have that many dangerous animals here. It was a genuinely scary experience that I still don't know what to make of.

@@AnarchAngel1 Ever hear the call of a Fishercat in particular. We have one that lives around me, (I live right next to a large wooded area). The fishercat is quite uncommon, so you will rarely hear one, even when in an area where one is noted to live. I'll hear it only once every month or two, and the range on its sounds are very diverse. Some being low base yips, to bloodcurdling screams like a mix between a siren going off and a women screaming. Their REALLY loud as well. I have a Siberian husky, whose not one to shy away from wild animals like raccoons, squirrels, foxes, and the such, but when he first heard the fishercat screaming at dusk, he ran back into the house faster than i've ever seen him run. After a couple times of hearing it though, he stopped getting scared and instead just barks back now. However if you go looking for a video of their screams, just know that 9/10 times your gonna end up finding a Red fox call mislabeled as a fishercat, so it may take a while to find a correct video.

Miss Marta But the wind doesn't care for animals. An usally it's dense woods when it happens. But some times it isn't. I personally experince it on my urban neighborhood wich has a very small forest. I was just riding my bik around the school near my house. Took a rest, climbed a tree and watched the sun set.(note i wasn't physiaclly in the forest. I've only been in it once and found cltohes of children strewn about as well as a makeshift fire camp and some beer cans. I was a couple feet from the tree line also.) At twilight 15min later everything went silent. I noticed but didn't care. Then I started to hear twigs break. And they must've been heavy because they broke so many very loudly. And I could tell whatever made those sounds knew it made a mistake because it hesitated. It's weight had shifted on the twigs. But it kept taking long deliberate steps and only got closer to the tree line. So I flung my self off the tree branch and ran to my bike in the oppoiste direction. I biked home fast and wjen I got jome mu parents asked me why I was shaking so much. Later, I speculated on the possibilities.1. A large snake. Not inheard of where I live. The problem is that there were distinct separate sounds which were very loud. 2. A cat. Again uilikely only because of how loud and how many twigs were broken. 3. A dog. Closer. But, those trees are two dense for a dog. And I said that the steps only got louder and faster. But they never sounded rapid. Like a dogs steps. Every step was deliberate. 4. A man. This is the only one that makes sense. A man is the only one to weigh enough to break that many twigs at one time that loudly. And would have the human ablity to watch their steps and be precise with them. Also, it's a neighborhood. It isn't a far stretch that someone was just hanging out in there. I already said people did go in there. Anywho, that was just my experience with the silence. Yea making an edit 10 months later. What of it? Just here to say deal with the grammar. I know for a fact I wrote this late at night. And I don't want to possibly mess up what I orginally wrote. I'm not a great story teller so I'm really sorry about that. But this did happen. I don't know how to explain it and I don't think it was some creepy monster or whatever. I was 11 sure, but I'm not exactly brain dead. Notice how I only mentioned practical things as causes for the noise. And when I say this patch of woods is small I mean it's fucking small. No bigger in width than a block and not thicker than 4 house lots. All I know is I'm just some punk kid minding my business and the world decided to go on mute. I heard footsteps in a certain particular way and I started feeling dread and panic. I've always been able to pick up on sublte differences in things and events around me. So when I tell you I heard something incremental and deliberate I mean it. Not a flex or anything. I guess it's just a useless quirk that came in handy in this particular moment. I don't know what to say. Alright I'm satisfied. Have a good day.

In my country we have an old concept, "metsänpeitto" (forest's cover). It's basically The Silence, but it includes getting completely turned around, feeling like you're suddenly somewhere else (even seeing everything upside down), and possibly losing huge amounts of time. It is usually pinned on malicious/mischievous forest spirits. You can sometimes snap yourself out of it by doing stuff like putting your shoes on the wrong foot or turning your jacket on backwards.

Regarding The Silence, I can confirm that it is also being experienced here In Southeast Asian forests as well. For example, in my country Thailand, tales of people venturing into forest and suddenly enter an area with unnerving silence are common and were often regarded as supernatural that many local hunters or ingredients gatherers would perform superstitious rituals to “open the forest” before entering it and do their things. True or not, there were also tales of people who experienced the silence, ended up walking weirdly around in circle, and came out of the forest to find out only little time/very long time has passed while they experienced longer/shorter time while lost in the forest.

I had this very odd experience at Crater Lake National Park back in 2007 while on a Ford Model A car tour of the area. About 35 of us stopped at a rest stop and I got out to walk my little dog Maria who is a 10 pound terrier mix she has the demeanor of a big dog in a little dog's body meaning she's fearless. Well as we walked away from the group I had noticed that it grew quieter and usually Maria is always pulling on her leash but this time she wasn't pulling so hard in fact she had completely stopped and would not move and started walking back the way we came. Then I noticed the sun that had been shining earlier was now overcast and I began to feel that I was not alone and Maria kept pulling me back the way we came so I decided perhaps that it would be better that we go back to our group and as we walked back Maria started running and since she was on the leash she had me running too. I wonder if she sensed something strange or perhaps something menacing was in front of us. I know dogs can sense things that humans can't. When we did get back to our group Maria seemed back to her normal terrier self.

You forgot to mention how severe weather plays a huge role in this too. Also, small children have been reported to traveling 20+ miles, up and down multiple mountain ranges and be found on a steep ledge the next day. Some children are alive, some not. In almost ALL cases? The missing are without shoes. Shoes/snow boots are often recovered. I have all of the Missing 411 books. They are eye-opening!!! Whatever is taking the people, is not human. Doesn't always save you being armed. I guy I know lives in Alaska. A few years back a cousin visited to go hunting. He never returned and an extensive search failed to find him. Several years later a wildfire burnt through the region. Firefighters found what they thought was a person killed by the fire, maybe an arsonist. However it was the missing cousin. His skeletal remains were found beside the metal parts of his rifle. The barrel was bent. Beside his skeleton was that of a brown bear. Bullet fragments were found inside the bear's skull. It was decided that the cousin had most likely been pushing through a patch of dense brush and encountered the bear. The bear was shot from below, which is why the fragments were inside the skull. So the bear was above the cousin when a shot was fired, so the bear and the cousin probably killed each other simultaneously. The thick bushes then prevented searchers from finding the remains. For some reason the remains were not scavenged, and appear to have rotted in place.

I'd start walking again, and the footsteps would resume, again keeping pace with me. i'd stop again, and they'd stop again half a second later. The woods were eerily quiet. This went on for about a mile or so but I kept my wits about me and kept checking around but never saw anyone. Four years later... I had more or less the same thing happen to me in the Santa Cruz mountains. The difference was that at first, the footsteps were initially were *precisely* timed with my own, and I really couldn't hear it. I thought I was hearing something, but couldn't be sure. Then, as I questioned what was happening, I heard a large branch crack. Not a twig under foot, but a large branch crack. I've spent enough time in the woods to know the diiference. I felt the distinct impression that something *wanted* me to know it was there now, that it was eliminating any doubt I had. From that point on, I could hear the foot steps keeping pace with me. I couldn't get a good look at it, as the sun was behind it, but I could see it was quite tall. It followed me for another thirty to forty minutes, until we got to the tree line at the edge of town. I could see something just inside of a large conifer. It pulled a branch down to get a better look at me (so it seemed) and I saw a large eye, and a large hand that was hairy on the top, and hairless on the palm/inside of the fingers. I spent a lot of years trying to pretend it was something else, but I know what I experienced and have had to be honest with myself about this.

I have followed this story of David Paulides for years. I kept wanting to ask if what I experienced once at South Mountain State Park in North Carolina had anything to do with what happened to these people but, felt foolish to ask because what happened may just be me. I was visiting NC to see a friend and though miscommunication it would be two hours before she came home. So I thought about South Mountain. It is a short hike and has some nice views for photos. I had gotten though about 70 percent of the trail and was now on the back half where it was just flat land all the rest of the way. When I came around a corner all the sound of the forest went silent and I felt this pressure and confusion to walk off the trail into the forest. My logical mind could see the easy to follow trail and knew where to go but, instinct kept telling me the right way was off the trail and back up another mountain. I sat down at a bench there because I was afraid of the fact that if I got off my feet I would go the wrong way. After about 20 minutes two women came around the corner and asked if I was ok because I looked sickly. As soon as they came around the corner the sound came back to the area also.

What the ever living fuck? I've had a very similar same thing happen to me. I was walking through some woods in British Columbia, Canada with my best friend and her two dogs. (Context: It's just a loop. There's no other paths to walk off onto so everyone who starts the path walks the exact same way). We had just rounded this bend away from her parents and two sisters, because, you know, we were 16 & 17 and wanted to walk alone. It was May long weekend so everything was alive and a pretty popular forest so a lot of people where around. All of a sudden both her dogs pull on the leashes, growling into the forest. They were calm dogs most of the time so it really startled us. Once we got them calmed down we noticed that the forest was completely still. Her parents and sisters should have caught up by then, but they didn't, and the uneasy feeling you get from dogs suddenly lashing out wasn't going away. Her dogs were still pulling on their leashes, almost choking themselves, but they stopped growling and this time they were pulling back to where my friends parents and siblings were. They were huge dogs (two Newfoundlanders) and normally they'd pull you right off your feet but both me and my friend stood still. I totally understand what you said about wanting to go into the forest, almost feeling as if you need too, but logically knowing that was not the way. After what seemed like 30 minutes my friends parents caught up. They said they turned the corner and couldn't find us so they hiked the short loop thinking we'd gone ahead, and sent my friends sisters back to the car. They couldn't find us on the path anywhere so they went back in. Thats when they found us. Neither one of us had moved, other than going and sitting on the ground, but somehow everyone had missed us. They never asked us about it but I'm sure it freaked them out to walk back into the forest and find the both of us sitting cross legged on the ground, staring into the forest, the dogs pulling on the leashes.

I am telling you I will never go alone again. It was very disorienting that the only sound I could hear was my breath. Even the sound of the dry leaves under my feet made no sound. I felt fine after the two women came around the corner. It felt I was being lured off the trail but, felt foolish bringing it up because it could be something like a mini stroke or something. When I heard of his books it kept reminding me of that day. Your story is very strange and brings to mind that perhaps you were out of sync with time since others expected to see you but, didn't. I think that perhaps just sitting there is the best you can do even if something is coming for you because you can face it where others might come through instead of facing it where nobody will see anything.

I still absolutely love being in the woods but every time I’m walking through them I’m afraid that I’m going to get that feeling again and maybe this time I won’t be able to stop myself. Maybe we were just somehow out of sync with time. Sometimes I think maybe no one saw us because we DID walk into the woods and simply forgot. I like your answer a lot better. A side note: my very spiritual great aunt was absolutely convinced it was fairies attempting to lure me and my friend into the woods.

RE: The lady hunter that saw the distortion in the woods, when I was 12 or 13, we went on vacation to a lake in Wisconsin. We were sitting on a picnic table, just talking, me, my sister, two of my cousins, and the people we were visiting who lived there. Somebody said, "Look! What is that?" We looked where he was pointing, and eventually we could make out what seemed to us like dent in the sky. It moved from west to east at a pace. We watched until we couldn't see it any longer. We noticed when the breeze and bird calls returned, but we didn't notice when they stopped. We were later told that we had seen the Wind Walker, and that it was a blessing and a good omen.

I experienced "the Silence" near Marilla Reservoir in Bradford, PA. It goes right into the Allegheny National Forest only a couple miles down the road, but the wilderness starts much sooner than that. I drove onto a logging road opposite the lake and stopped at a trail (can't remember the name, but it was picturesque beautiful during the fall leaves changing, almost like it was luring me in). I only walked about 100 hundreds in when all the bugs, birds, and little critters went silent. It was like someone flipped a switch on nature. Suddenly, everything around me felt different. I felt like I was in the belly of the beast, is the only way I can describe it. I had been about to turn around the first corner, a blind turn around a giant glacial boulder. Something inside me told me that if I went around that boulder, I'd be leaving an empty car for my parents to be notified about. I only stood there feeling that ultra-uneasiness for about a minute before I got the hell out of there with my head on a swivel. Luckily, my car was parked right at the trail head so I was out of there in less than a minute, pulling out onto the logging road and making my way back to the Reservoir and the road to civilization. The coordinates of where my car was parked are here: 41°58'24"N 78°44'44"W. The forest canopy is super thick, so the trail can't be seen. I want to go back with a thermal camera and full spectrum camera. There was something there I couldn't see, but all the forest creatures and I could sense it. I've driven back to the trailhead, but I've been so afraid to go in alone that I've only just sat in my car watching the bit of trail I can see, my engine always kept on for a quick escape, just in case. THERE'S SOMETHING IN THOSE WOODS.

I've had that happen before. Everything goes silent you have all the hair on your neck and arms stand up. Sometimes you just get the sense of being watched or of threat. Other times you KNOW something is somewhere in particular. There's something behind that boulder, around the shoulder of that hill, in that low spot you can't see in but have to pass next to. Nearly always when the silence happens I'll freeze for a moment and just consider if anywhere in my field of view would make a good ambush spot. Usually there is at least one such spot nearby. And I'll go back till I'm out of view of that location and take a big circle around that spot. It's when the silence happens AGAIN afterward and you spot another potential ambush spot that you just plain leave. Quickly and quietly as you can without running, running makes things chase you.
@LilTechCricket
@LilTechCricket 2 жыл бұрын
@@Radagast49230 That sounds like a decent strategy and way of thinking, "ambush spots". I'll have to try that, since I've experienced it while I've begun hunting. I'm not just the hunter out there, I could be the hunted. I'll be settled in, all the sounds of nature on (and I'm technically a natural predator, as a hunter), then the switch gets turned off. A few minutes go by and the switch comes back on, like something scarier to all of nature than a human with a weapon was passing through. THAT'S the thought that scares me now. There's something out there that scares nature to ABSOLUTE SILENCE worse than a human with a hunting weapon. WHAT CAUSES THAT?! But I totally agree with your first part. When I first experienced "the Silence", something instinctually made me focus on that turn around the boulder, the blind spot behind the boulder I couldn't see. Like you said: a perfect ambush spot.

I live about 45 minutes away from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and have visited there more times than I can count. There have been a few times where I have experienced "the silence". It's the most deafening thing I've ever heard and sends shivers down my spine every time I think of it. My husband and I are avid hikers and have spent many summers in his family's cabin up there. We have heard countless stories of these strange and eery mountains. For the love of god, please never go out in the woods alone! There is something spooky that lurks there. Something you don't want to even think about encountering.

I've experienced the "silence" while hunting in Indiana as a pre-teen. On at least two or three occasions, I felt deep dread while in the woods and couldn't get out fast enough. Accompanying the dread feeling was the silence of the place. I only know that it was menacing to me as a young boy who had hunted these fields and woods since he was old enough to hold a Daisy BB gun. I don't believe I ever told my parents or anyone else. I got spooked, was how I considered it. I'm 71.

I had "the silence". Got lost in the bush for a couple of hours. Everything went quiet. No wind, sound from wildlife. Nothing. Immediately followed by a blood curdling scream. I don't get scared often. This scared me. Started frantically moving through trees and creeks trying to find my way out. Felt like something was tailing me. Whenever I stopped to find out, heard and saw nothing. I felt like it wasn't my imagination and that whatever it was, was just watching me. This went on for about an hour. The whole time worrying about the sun going down and my foolishness of leaving my knife and torch at home for the first time. When it looked like I was going to be spending the night out in the bush I stumbled across the main trail. I thanked my lucky stars but still felt like something was watching me from the tree line. That feeling ebbed away when more hikers showed up at the junction. I walked along the main road to get back to my motorbike. Took the long way by a few kilometers rather than go into the bush again. Hopped on my bike and went home.

I and my parents have actually experienced the Silence... We were hiking through the forests of the Balkans in Bulgaria when suddenly everything went eerily quiet. No birds chirping, no animal cries, not even leaves rustling. It was so unnerving that it felt like a surreal nightmare/dream. And there was also something watching us. My mother saw it in full detail and said it looked like a strange bird. All I caught was a glimpse out of the corner of my eyes... it looked like a bird-like creature with large strange eyes. Fortunately, the wind decided to send us back and prevent us from taking a further step into the area where the Silence occured. It literally forced us back with a gale force gust and kept blowing at our backs until we reached the summit and the city there. Similarly, my mother has seen strange creatures in parts of the forests such as around one of the cities in the country known as Gabrovo. Examples include something like a large black dog hiding under the hotel's balcony table. And strange humanoid like creatures running through the forest without a sound. Likewise on a trip to the Rhodopes she saw a strange quadruped devil0like creature walking on the path in front of us.

I remember taking a late afternoon stroll in my local walking trail alone in November. It was that time of day where it’s still very lit but it’s somewhat darker than it was a half an hour ago. There is a very well foliaged forest that surrounds both sides of the trail and the nearby river’s roar constantly reverberates through the area as the trail runs along side the cliffs and rocky formations siding the river. Most people were leaving to go home for dinner. I ate just previously and needed some well deserve leisure walking to de-stress from work. I was all alone as I reached the first bbq spot. That’s when I felt it, a uneasy, dreadful, almost queasy feeling as if something is readying to attack me. This was coupled with a sickening silence. All the trees stopped rustling for a mere second, the wind stopped mid breeze and the nearby river seemed to quite down, despite still being the only thing making tremendous noise behind me. All of this was strangely unnatural and felt very creepy. Becoming increasingly anxious, I began to turn back and quicken my pace. I can’t explain it but I felt as if something was following me and with malicious intent. I felt like this for an excruciating 1.5 miles, by almost the end of the trip, I was lightly jogging occasionally looking back to see nothing. But only once did I see something different. Something that didn’t look right and it was an outline of what looked like an unnaturally tall man crouching behind a bush in a crawling prowl. Whoever it was had a ghostly aura about him, I couldn’t see a face, any clothing or anything that would identify who it was and he looked like his figure messed with the light around it, it had a definite outline but the man or thing seemed almost transparent. After seeing that I sprinted the last few 100 meters or so. I somehow had a gut feeling that the thing I saw wanted to do horrible things to me or others. I did not feel any safety until I got into my car, even then, however, I still felt unnerved. I didn’t completely feel safe until I got onto the main road a few acres away. I since then visited the same trail only once when it was more crowded and there was the usual joggers and people walking their dogs. I eventually found out that a local child went missing from a backyard which has a forest line connected to the same walking trail’s surrounding forestry on the same night. To this day I still do not know what was watching me and following me, if anything and I often wonder if there was something, or if it was just me. What bothers me the most about the whole incident is the fact that I’m unsure if the thing I saw was real or possibly my imagination as it was beginning to get dark and I was already spooked.

Transparent is a very interesting detail you used .... in a few of the missing 411 stories they describe the thing watching them as transparent or almost like it was covered in Saran Wrap (like a plastic wrap) where it was pretty much see through but distinguishable .... that’s why I feel like nothing has been definitively found or identified. The only problem with some of these theories about something being out there is these disappearances are taking place at multiple national parks all over North America. If they all took place at one park, then I could see but not many parks spread out over thousands upon thousands of miles and countries. I think these parks are very dangerous in spots. There are bears and cougars, snakes and lynx, bobcats and wolves, etc etc. Many normal predators that could be responsible. There are also random spots that drop off and caves and other places that one can fall in and disappear or be walked by and be missed by search parties. There are many many simple reasons these disappearances happen. Some are intriguing because of odd circumstances but the majority are explained by regular circumstances that could happen to anyone.

It's a problem for Canada and North America, not the rest of the planet. So in a way, it is happening in one focused area. The mystery is that there are tons of 'national park' type areas all over the world, but people don't go missing anywhere near as much.

Wow the silence part at the end about the Ohio woman gave me chills cuz my coworker and I have experienced that silence and heavy pressure like your being watched. I work at a delivery company and on our old route we used to drive thru enumclaw, wa where out there is a lot of Bigfoot sightings and one particular part we used to stop and take breaks in our semitruck on the side of the road. There’s no lights or nothing just pure darkness and I can point at the area till this day. Every time we would arrive within 5-10 mins it would be completely silent in the woods and feel as if something was watching us we even had times where we heard branches snapping even had shit thrown at our semi truck

Also there was this weird clicking noise we would hear but it seem liked some type of dialect as if something was communicating or trying to talk. My coworker also saw silhouettes of a large figure behind the trailer of our semi before we would always pull off when shit got real crazy because it felt like threatening and these were multiple times things would happen when we took a break out there. And this recent late 2017 last time we were out there before we got new routes

It wasn't until very recently that infrared became cheap enough for rescue agencies to deploy widely, and the areas rescue teams have to search are often vast. It's difficult enough finding a dead body in slightly overgrown British countryside, let alone wildly overgrown and ancient North American forests. A lot of search and rescue efforts fail due to the inaccessibility of the terrain. The more remote the location, the higher the chances of failure. It's not paranormal, it's just bloody difficult. The reason why people tend to shed their clothing in cold environments is due to a naturally occurring phenomena known as "paradoxical undressing." When the final stages of hypothermia set in victims often become extremely confused and disorientated and begin to remove clothing. This is what happened at Dyatlov Pass. It is absurdly easy to become injured out in the wild, and when you're on your own even a sprained ankle can be possibly fatal, as it can lead to a cascade of misfortune. Now that it hurts to walk you can't walk as far or as quickly. It will leave you more exposed to wild animal attacks (predators specifically target injured prey) or sudden turns in the weather. Morale will suffer and you'll find yourself less inclined to push yourself, etc.

I agree regarding FLIR and people being prone to injury in the great outdoors etc. But frankly I am tired of seeing paradoxical undressing thrown around as an explanation for clothes being removed in these instances. First and foremost, a lot of these cases occur in the warm summer months, so hypothermia is never a logical explanation unless they have fell into fast flowing water. I know you said cold environments, but even then, if you're going to present it as an explanation, please at least acknowledge that it occurs very, VERY rarely. Most people who die of hypothermia are found fully clothed, not undressed, meaning a very specific set of factors have to be met before someone resorts to paradoxically undressing themselves. In many missing 411 cases, clothes are found either spread over a wide area or in a very neat pile close to where the body was found. Paradoxical undressing occurs in the very last moments before death as the hypothalamus basically gives up and releases all the warm blood it was holding in the body's core back into the extremities. The victim has no coordination, certainly not enough to neatly fold clothes and absolutely no chance of them stumbling for miles undressing themselves as they will invariably be dead within minutes or even seconds. Finally, it is almost ALWAYS only the upper body that is found undressed, never the lower limbs. Dyatlov Pass is a bad example as some of them were found in their underpants and their various states of undress were more in line with a hasty escape from the tent rather than paradoxical undressing. That's not to say that any of these cases are paranormal. I'm sure there are reasonable explanations for most of them, but we remain open minded.

If you put yourself in the situation of a lost person, it's not paradoxical to undress. You'll likely get really overheated from exertion as you panic trying to find your way through the woods at night. You're going to start taking layers off and quickly start ditching every piece of clothing you realize you don't actually need, or think that you don't need in the moment. Especially kids, who aren't thinking long term about hypothermia but just want to find their parents. It's actually a really logical thing that you'll realize as soon as you try to actually retrace the steps of these missing people, something Paulides doesn't ever do because he wants to believe he's uncovering a paranormal mystery.

Anon Z >> That presupposes you have the photographs to start with. ~ Trust me, I know from experience, each of these episodes is very laborious and time consuming to produce. Even if you did use software to convert photos to “painting” images, you will still need to research, locate, acquire, and prepare them for video (including conversion from photo to ‘painting’). Remember that one of the reasons for using these illustrations is that photographs that tell the story are not available to begin with. Another reason is that if photographs are used, the producers must become involved with legal issues regarding © copyright, which they would want to avoid. The same is true for the music under-which is really beautiful, by the way. The scores are likely original, for that reason alone. This is very nice work. Production in b&w is much less expensive (in both time and money) than in color; however, given the subject matter of these episodes, b&w is quite appropriate. The most challenging part of the production, however, is the script, I’d wager. ~ I must say that I am curious about the score. Perhaps the procurers could give us some insight. Is this original work? It's a perfect fit for the video, whatever the case. Kudos to you!

I live in a sort of suburban area that is a mix of homes surrounded by forest. This "Silence" phenomena they mentioned has happened to me a couple of times too and it is super freaky. 99% of the time if you walk outside you here dogs barking, kids in the distance yelling, birds chirping, cicadas singing, oelr even cars passing in the distance. But on a couple of incidents, I've been outside and everything has just stopped. No wind, no dogs, no cars, no animals. All you can hear is your own breath. I've just kind of frozen up and strained to hear anything, anything at all. Usually after 30 or 60 seconds the spell is broken and the world will start making sounds again. But it's very, very eerie. I have no idea what causes it.
@marhawkman303
@marhawkman303 5 жыл бұрын
The silence is real, and creepy. One suggestion I heard is that it's the natural equivalent of a flash mob. Birds chirping will quickly stop chirping if another bird nearby goes silent. This can cause a ripple effect over a large area and even affect multiple kinds of animal at once. The animals causing the silence find the silence to be just as creepy and terrifying as humans do. What starts these though? anything that startles a bird can possibly cause one. I believe I accidentally caused one once simply by making loud footsteps.
@Babayaga962
@Babayaga962 3 жыл бұрын
The silence has a very good explanation. The reason why all the animals go quiet is because there is a predator around, and most of the time, it’s you. Statistically, many animals will go their entire lives without ever encountering a human being, and logically, the deeper into a forest you go, fewer and fewer will have had seen a human. To them, you are a threat, a new variable, one they have no experience with and don’t know what to do about. Their “fight or flight” instinct engages, the birds can’t fight you, so they go dead silent, don’t move and wait for you to leave. Once the first bird sees you and goes quiet, a chain reaction ensues as the other birds and animals follow suit. Even the bugs go quiet, and the forest goes silent. This is where it gets really cool. That chain reaction doesn’t just effect animals, it effects you too. There is a part of every human beings mind that is devoted to self preservation, and it hasn’t really evolved over the last several thousand years. This means that at all times, a tiny part of you is worried about being hunted by predators, constantly on the look out for tigers and lions, because it cannot fully understand that we mostly don’t have to deal with such things anymore. and that part of your mind is training by instinct to look for even the slightest indication that a predator could be nearby. So, just like the birds, you notice the forest going silent and your brain tells you you’re being hunted, even though your not. This of course makes you feel incredibly uncomfortable and your hair to stand on end even when there is no real threat. This doesn’t explain these disappearances, but it does explain why the silence happeneds

I walk my dog on average 2 hours a day in the woodlands close to my house in the UK. I've been visiting this area for the last 46 years, almost daily. It's a massive area of ancient woodlands and has numerous suicides as of the last 4 years for unexplained reasons. I know the land like the back of my hand, and on occasions I hear the 'silence'. This stops me in my tracks and I observe my surroundings, no sound, no animal noises, no trees rustling, total silence. There is an 'close feeling' an eerie feeling, like you are not alone. Other-times, I often hear noises close by which are human like in sound, grunts, short words, although, nobody is remotely close to me by a mile. I experience this at least weekly, so I can totally understand some of the mentioned 'feelings' in this video.

Just share some stuff while the topic is out there. I've grown up in south Georgia and there's a fair sized swamp like land that borders my grandfather's property. It's very dense and is very difficult to access, but I journey back there because it has the best fishing and hunting. I've have had a few times where everything goes silent and stagnant and you get the sense of being watched by something predatory or just larger than you. I've had it happen even while being fully prepared for hunting. Which means I was caring a rather powerful rifle, and I've never felt more scared in my life. There's just so much vegetation and so few people out there that anything could hide easily. Not to mention I've heard more than one account of cougars being spotted nearby. It's places like this that cloak true mysteries. There's also the tale of six bridges in Hiltonia, Ga if anyone reading this wants to look it up. It's a tale from even before my great grandad. I can confirm that the bridges existed because I've found one, but I've never found the remnants of the destroyed town. There's a lot of indian artifact rich sites in there area and a tale of a whole town being burnt down by a curse except a single house who's family showed kindness to the person who laid upon the curse. It's not far from six bridges and is recognized as a historic site. www.southernhauntings.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26

Experienced "the silence" down in Arizona this past summer. Three of us were on a night hike in an area known as The Great Western Trail by 4 peaks off the 87. Not terribly far from the Superstition Mountains, but not the same range. We had hiked it several times at night, did shooting during the day many times, but this one night as we were hiking towards an old cattle trough we used as a rest point the wooded area we were in went deathly silent. I always hiked with a Springfield M1A rifle, and just slowly pointed it down the sandy path ahead of us with my headlamp on its highest setting. My two friends kept silent while shining their lights to our sides, and rear. We all acknowledged to one another that something felt off and that the area had become uncomfortably silent. It was like you could hear the blood in your veins moving with how silent it got. Every feeling in my body said "leave" so we began heading back. Being the one with the M1A (a .30 caliber battle rifle with a 20rd magazine in it mind you) while the others carried smaller firearms I walked backwards with no intent on leaving our rear unchecked. When we paused to see if we could hear anything that feeling of "leave" hit all of us again. I was expecting something to just walk out into my line of sight and kept my rifle pointed ahead of myself with a very uneasy feeling before we began moving again. By the time we got to the entrance of the wooded area back to the more solid paths you heard wildlife again. Bugs, toads, bunnies zipping through foliage. That uncomfortable feeling vanished just like that. I have no idea what happened that night, or what was lurking in those woods but we never hiked it at night again. I've seen Mt Lions before, and never did one make the woods go silent, yet I truly felt like we were being stalked and if I turned around we were done for. I've never walked backwards that far before or since. We never really spoke about it after that night as we didn't quite know how to convey to others the feeling that we experienced. I guess you just had to experience it to know.

I had an experience that reminds me of 8:25 when I was about 9 years old and in Cubs in Nova Scotia. Every summer the entire group went to a cabin out in the wilderness for a week. My father went too because the whole thing was a father son trip, he was in the military and a hunter so he took us all to school on outdoors skills regularly. The group of about 16 of us went for a long hike though the woods one day which brought us to a long arching logging trail with large pines and thick brush on either side. just like the story said we were all moving along at our own pace with me and about 4 of my friends lagging about 30 yards behind the rest of the group, bringing up the rear. Everyone else was just about out of sight from the curve of the path when suddenly one of the pine trees about 5 feet to my right started thrashing like wild. The group of us boys all froze and just sort of stared at it for a second. My first reaction after the shock was my father must have slipped off the path and set up a little ambush to prank us, so not wanting to look like a coward to him I took 1 step forward and said "Real funny Dad, come out of there." But nothing replied, nothing even moved. Just silence. I was determined not to let my father get the best of me but after about 7-8 seconds (actually count that out ) of nothing but pointed silence from the forest, I was getting rattled so I got my friends to move on. We still boogied to catch up with the group though. I wasn't outright afraid by what happened until we caught up with the main group and I found my father was with them. He was a good outdoors man, but there was no way he could have worked his way through that brush in the height of summer and caught up with everyone else faster than we did over the open ground of the trail. I'll never know what I was staring down on the other side of that pine tree, and it still bothers me to this day.

Animals tend to react to their environment. Any sudden change from a sudden change in ambient light (Solar and Lunar eclipse) to sudden changes in ambient temperature (warm and cold fronts) and even sudden changes in air pressure can cause animals to "go silent", so it's not unnatural, it's more that most people will ignore the natural explanations because the supernatural ones make for better stories.

2 years ago, I had something very weird happen to me on a hunting trip one night. I always camp with a hunting rifle and a revolver as a side arm. Well I put my rifle down one evening and sat by the campfire, while my hunting buddy was asleep in the tent. I remember looking at the rifle, propped up against a tree, about 6 feet away from me. I looked away, then looked back and the rifle was suddenly gone. Like the rifle had been taken by someone or something. I couldn't see or hear anything, but the rifle was gone. So I drew my revolver and shouted to my buddy to wake him up. Spooked, and forgetting his camera and our belongings, we both headed straight back to the truck, which was nearby, trying to rationalise the situation and calm ourselves down. But when I turned on the headlights, I saw the rifle lying on the ground right in front of the truck. About 40 yards from the campfire spot where it was originally. My buddy got out and picked up my rifle because I was too freaked out at this point. He thought I may have been playing a prank on him, but I knew a 3rd party had moved it, since I didn't move it, and he was in the tent asleep at the time. I wanted to leave and get the hell out of there, but he was downplaying it all and convinced it was nothing, still thinking I might be playing a prank on him, or its just me being paranoid. So he walked back towards the tent, only to come running back about 30 seconds later saying "go, go, go" as he jumped in. I hit the gas and we raced back up the trail towards the main road. He said that as he approached the tent, he could see it had been opened up fully with a bunch of stuff moved around inside and his digital camera taken. He was convinced it was a person though, whereas I knew a person wouldn't have moved my rifle that silently and quickly from right under my nose, in the space of maybe 3-4 seconds when I looked away. We were both freaked out though, nonetheless. Just as we approached the main road, we started seeing flashes through the trees to our side and behind us. One flash after the other, a few seconds apart. Maybe 5-6 flashes in total. Obviously from my buddy's camera going off. We were so freaked out that we got back onto the main road and headed straight back to town. Neither of us could explain it. I was convinced it was aliens, whereas he was saying it could be a person messing with us, or a bear even. But I wasn't buying that. I was shit scared, given the remote, forest setting. Well, we did go back the next day still and found everything still in place, even the camera, which was left on the ground near to the camp. Nothing had been taken. We looked through the photos on the camera and saw a bunch of dark night shots, with the feint outline of trees and shrubs due to the flash. But none of the pictures seemed out of the ordinary and they didn't show anything else other than a dark forest. No photos of an alien's face, or a demon. So we began to relax again and I started to buy into the whole black bear theory that my buddy was pushing. But then we suddenly discovered that 3 photographs had been deleted from the chain of photos that were taken when the camera was going off. There was no way that the camera had malfunctioned or deleted the pictures itself. So someone, or something, had clearly manually deleted 3 specific photos out of the 7 taken. Even to this day, we can't explain it.

reminds me of one of my dads friends telling the story of his hunting trip. big time hunter, always outdoors, said he was chillin in his tree stand when a bigfoot appeared out of the woods looking right at him, walked under his stand and reached up and touched his boot. his words were "i dont need anyone telling me what i think i saw, i know exactly what it was and ill never go back into the woods alone". story still sticks with me after many years.

I grew up in a small mountain town and I spend a lot of time in the rocky mountains. The silence is real, its unnerving. I remember a time at about 3 am I pulled up to a trailhead and started gearing up to go ice climbing, even the wind and the creak of trees stopped, heard a dumpster lid slam just in the darkness in front of me, scared me so badly. Getting separated from a partner and then experiencing the silence is terrifying, always found my buddy though.

I think the most strange disappearance I read about was this story. A team of archeology students, with an older gentleman as their leader. They had stopped at a open area for a break, the older gentleman used a walking stick for stability. He was about 20 feet away from the group. While the group was busy getting their lunches out of their backpacks, they had their backs turned away from the older gentleman. When one of the people in the group called out to him. He had totally vanished from sight. Nothing was left behind, no backpack or footprints. Did the older gentleman slip into another dimension?. How do you explain an older gentleman who used a walking stick, suddenly vanish from sight. He couldn't have run, or jogged for that matter. He was never seen again.

Being in a state of undress actually isn't that strange. One of the final symptoms of someone dying from hypothermia is undressing because they feel hot because of nerve damage. Usually the shoes and pants are first to be removed as well. The other part that we don't understand well is people dying from hypothermia will also for some reason squeeze themselves into tight and low places such as under logs, cars, etc.

I've felt that same silence while working in a seasonal work camp in Wisconsin when walking through some woodland adjacent to some farm land on the way to a pond in the middle of the night. I tried to push against it and defy it by walking until the point that it became overwhelming, and I almost ran back at that point.

I've had this phenomina occur, I live in a small town called Apsley (about 3 hours drive North from Toronto) and live on County Road 504, our property was about 50 acres and whilst hunting with my stepfather he went off a little ways into the bush to pee and I stayed on the trail we had made, (Late Summer) and all of a sudden, things fell silent, my heart began to race and I felt as though I was being watched, I felt as if my back was naked and exposed, as if something was wishing to attack, moments later my stepfather returned as did the sounds of wildlife, he wasn't as talkative as before and seemed a little uneasy, we headed back because he said he didn't feel good. My mom and him have since divorced but I'd like to get in touch and speak with him of this.
