I lived in Evesham and still am working there. It is quite funny cause nothing else happened in that town since this battle. So everything is still about it ! You take the Simon de Montfort bridge, go to have a walk on the "battlefield" etc. Locals make a medieval festival every year replaying the battle and what i found very funny is that you could hear some locals "Oh if we had done that move, we would have won the battle" i just wanted to tell them "Hey guys it was 800 years ago ! Bloody turn the page!"

@kpb96m1 Why would you think people would have just let him rule the lands? The only reason he was actually allowed to rule the lands now was most likely because he captured Henry and Edwards. They were his most valuable assets.
@ronrolfsen3977
@ronrolfsen3977 3 жыл бұрын
@kpb96m1As a king in that period you did not really need to have to keep the masses fed to keep the rule. You had to keep the purse of your direct vassal full. Simon himself had food, was sheltered and safe, and had a shit load of freedom compared to most. Yet he is the one who took power from the sitting king, not peasants. While not impossible. It was very rare in those times for peasants to group up and rebel. At least on a scale that it worried a king or that he even had to get involved. So to keep those lords loyal to the king in check he needed to have the king as a prisoner. If he killed them the war would most likely have continued. Or worse a succession war that might have involved foreign rules. Also to note. Simon lost power because a lord released the prisoner. Not because peasant released him, but a disgruntled vassal. See kzbin.info/www/bejne/qITXfWqknrdqndU&ab_channel=CGPGrey for a great and simple explanation about this.

@@cameronmcallister7606 I've played it before it became the forced meme of the year. The graphics are nice for a mobile game which isn't saying a lot but the turn based battle system is what I liked the most. Obviously, since it's a gacha style game, you have to pour in thousands of dollars to be a top competitor but who's doing that if you don't already have the capital to do so? With that said, even the good games eventually get overly greedy and the entire experience starts to suffer for it because the developers begin to cater to whales first and foremost. I'm talking about unique in-game events whose items are solely attainable by inputting even more real life money into it. That's the real scam and how they get you is by drawing you in with the rest of the experience.

Nero Bernardino I might not have knowledge on that game, but it does not mean every mention of the ad everybody goes elastic. We “like” the Black Hole because it is a genuinely funny joke made by a documentaries who acts serious most of the time. Yes mobile game ads is annoying, I will admit, does that mean we should be hating about? Just ignore it and sigh at yourself instead making pointless comments. Complain certainly won’t change anything and felt like hate becoming the new meme for people to say which one to hate like refusing to accept new and always think it is bad.
@nerobernardino88
@nerobernardino88 4 жыл бұрын
Look, I played Raid: Shadow Legends and if there's one thing I can say for experience is: The ads are on the gray line between your typical ad - kinda true but a lot of embellishments - and outright false advertising. The progression and its associated microtransactions aren't bad enough to be illegal but are enough to make it so you don't have any hope of getting anything good without throwing money at the game - and even then it isn't guaranteed. I do understand your point of "ads are annoying, but should we be hating on them?" I truly do. The problem here is that the game which is having its ads plastered on damn near everything is one that has some rather aggressive monetization (and, if I'm not mistaken, violates the ToS of Google Playstore itself.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3TTmGubfdaZZtU Here, more info about the whole thing. I could try and explain everything but, as you will likely notice (by watching Muta's vid or even looking things up by yourself), I'm not the more informated nor the more adequate to do so. Sorry for any mistakes, english isn't my main language.

The script is acceptable, but the narrator, Dan Boud, is exceptional. His mastery of grammar and sentence structure is lightly worn and informs the story. He is not distant like many imported narrators, nor is he breathless with enthusiasm, but there in the moment, bringing the political and military events alive. I imagine this comes from studious preparation, and perhaps a love of history too . . .

Very well told story Sir! Hats off. I completely understand why it takes awhile between episodes. But this way they all fit together. The Alexander the great saga is indeed an important document. It allows a lot of subtext to be added by the listener. So who was Montfort really? I believed in a comment earlier but in this episode it is implied that he may have become overconfident. Even paranoid. Don't hesitate the Stalin saga. He had 24 limousines so he could change every day. In fear of being assasinated. "But that is a story for another time."

I’m not a big fan of kings and generals, they just seem to copy other successful KZbinr styles like bazbattles but somehow have the means to throw out masses of content more regularly. Their research isn’t that great either beyond Wikipedia level and they lack the personality of people like bazbattles, invicta or historia civilis. Just my opinion though and I still follow them in case they pop up with something that really interests me

This battle in particular was bloody,normally noblemen were taken for random in this period but Evesham was noted as having very little chivalry on display with almost all being killed. the chronicles wrote "The murder of Evesham for battle it was none" It is also said that Montfort's troops were chased as far as Tewkesbury around 12 miles away and the gardens and streets of evesham were themselves the sites of bloodshed

It occurs to me rebellion is pretty bad for either leader. You essentially increase the relative and potentially the quantitative power of your upper class. Decreasing your control over the country. But you force the other side to do the same. So essentially whichever leader wins the rebellion is in a weakened position, compared to the nobility of the winning side who benefit the most. Having more land. And larger militaries. And getting more in all probability. From this view we can see that the essential question in a rebellion is if the nobles under you think they can win. Barring illogical thought. And how well you can win without giving away to much. And the post rebellion rebuild. Which includes reconsolidating your power base not only from the opposition, but your own people.

Oh yeah. It's widely theorized that Edward's trademark heavy-handedness once he became King was a direct result his youth spend observing his father being walked all over by his barons, by the French and Scottish Kings, and by pretty much anyone who had even a tiny bit of backbone. Henry III was just the worst, and seeing how much his father sucked at being King most likely made Edward hyperconscious against slights against the honor and reputation of the English Crown once he became King himself.
