Played many wargames between Brits and Zulus using TTG's "Soldiers of the Queen" rules; always a close run thing and about equal results either way. The real winner being the player who can used the most quotes from the movies with runner up going to the best Michael Caine impersonation! Your 20mm figures would be a great scale to try the rules with and the regiments lined up would look more like a regular force (a good excuse to leave the head dresses), AND you manage to find a use for: That US Cavalryman supplied with a tank! well done.

Fantastic! What a nice Christmas gift. Really enjoyable as always - with some great zulu pronunciation! Those old Military Modelling magazines made me feel very nostalgic - lovely to see them still be used as a great reference. Thanks for posting!

Thanks Martin. The old MM magazines are still great as well as the MW and alike. Unfortunately mr google tend to make us forget about our old magazines.

Very nice to see, I have an 1879 project in the same scale, just a (long) ways away from being ready for the table. I have collected a mix of plastic figures and Newline metals, have most of everything except for the NCC foot, so I enjoyed seeing your conversions.

Thanks. That is my idea, trying to portray the biggest battle of the period so you can wargame the smaller ones.

It looks great, nice job. Can I point out one geographical mistake however (sorry, just hoping to be helpful). I went to the battlefield in 2015 and it's very obvious that the left wing of the British line was anchored on the mountain, which also obscured the movement of the Zulu right horn. The British line should therefore stretch out in a straight line from the base of the mountain with Younghusband's company actually up on the scree slopes firing down on the Zulu right-centre. As Durnford falls back on the right Pope's large company does fall back causing the line to curve for a while before they are overrun. Looking forward to the battle report
@joaopeixoto5249 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. One of the problems of these kind of tables is the comparative size of the things. The mountain in fact stretches all along the british line and my model just want to catch the generic shape and allow some terraces in case of a withdrawal into the mountain itself.

@@joaopeixoto5249 There's an excellent section in Mike snook's book about the battle 'How Can Men Die Better, it deals with the last stages of the battle as the British rally squares are fighting back through the camp towards the river, maybe with some fragment of hope that they can fight their way out, and then, emrging from behind the mountain comes the fresh Zulu right horn and the British relaise there's no chance of survival. Snook does an excellent job of building hope through his narrative, only for it to be dashed. Must have been brutual for the soldiers

I’ve personally climbed the “mountain” at Isandlwana. If your life depends on it, which for the British forces it did, it wouldn’t be hard to put substantial numbers of troops up the hill, though of course they wouldn’t then have access to their ammo reserves.
@kirishima2370 Жыл бұрын
@@sirrathersplendid4825 If my memory serves, Younghusband's company retreated up the scree slopes, eventually charging down into the mass when their ammo ran out. A lone British soldier held out for some time in one of the small caves

@@kirishima2370 - Don’t recall the full details of the battle: it’s been several decades since I read about it in any depth. Is there any evidence that the Zulus put substantial numbers of troops up the slopes, hoping to outflank the Brits and fire at them from above?

Always look forward to your videos. I collect larger scale figures now but, regardless of scale, your enthusiasm for the hobby is infectious. I just wish I had the kind of storage space you have!

Inspirational stuff as always. Can I ask a question? Do you find you need to paint soft plastic figures with PVA glue before undercoating them? I'm about to take the plunge into trying some 1/72 Napoleonics
@joaopeixoto5249 Жыл бұрын
Thanks. After washing the figures still on the sprue I always mix 50% black acrylic with 50% PVA glue and apply on the figures already on the base or on some sort of wooden holder. It works as primer and a strenghtener for soft plastics. In the end a good varnish is always necessary.
