Canada deserved more recognition than this video gave. The battle achieved nothing in the long run but the Canadian forces were the ones to finally win it.

Yes totally agree the Canadians finished it off with the well organised final push , but they did benefit from the hard slog up to their initial jump off points, by firstly the British and then the Australians who fought a number of battles , for example Broodsiende to get to the point where the Canadians who came in relatively fresh could take over . The Australians had fought themselves to the point of total exhaustion, on top of this the artillery and much of the logistics were provided by the british forces , but yes the Canadians were superbly organised and fought very bravely to take the ridge

Maybe not in this video but in general the roles of others is overplayed, perhaps to mask the true horror of the casualty figures who knows, but actions such as my gt grandfather took part in are often omitted, he was 20th bn Durham Light Infantry and they were called up from reserve , where they were supposed to be recovering from the mauling they took 6 weeks earlier, to carry the front slope of Tower Hamlets, giving the Australians the jumping off point to carry the summit, you also need to remember also the colonial troops were all volunteers and as such, needing to keep the supply coming, they were treated marginally better, especially the Canadians who enjoyed the status of an elite unit, that though is not to say they were spared the horrors. The upshot is this every person who was on that battlefield suffered a hell that is beyond words, Tommy, Cannuck, Digger, or Hun.
