Excellent song, whilst Major General Brock is rightly honoured for the victory with him being killed in action and Major General Roger Sheaffe who took command in place of Brock everyone forgets about the Aide de camp Lt Colonel John MacDonel (A barrister to trade) of the York Millitia lead with a captain Williams of the 49th Foot despite having no formal military training(MacDonel not Williams) led 70 or so men faced 400 or more troops at the top of the heights. Despite the disadvantage in numbers as well as attacking a fixed position, Williams' and Macdonell's small force was driving the opposing force to the edge of the gorge on which the Redan(Defensive position) was situated, and seemed on the verge of success before the Americans were able to regroup and stand firm. The momentum of the battle turned when a musket ball hit Macdonell's mount, causing it to rear and twist around. Another shot hit Macdonnell in the small of the back, causing him to fall from the horse. He was removed from the battlefield but succumbed to his injuries early the next day. On 16 October 1812 Lieut. Col. Macdonell, along with General Brock, was buried in the bastion at the northeast corner of Fort George. When a memoral for General Brock was comissioned MacDonel was burried in a corner of the monument. In Stan Rogers song about the events at Queenstown he says not one in 10,000 know his nane hopefully my little info will add a few more to a brave man and his deeds

You've heard about the battle that was fought in New Orleans When the British had some trouble with their ranks Now i'd like to tell you all about the war in Queenston Heights Where the British chased four thousand frightened Yanks What a great victory for the British One of history's most heroic fights! What a sight so fine when that long red line Drove the yankees off of Queenston Heights Started out with the odds all against them, But the British had a fighting man named Brock He was fearless, he was brave, and all Queenston he did save From the Yankees who were petrified with shock What a great victory for the British One of history's most heroic fights! What a sight so fine when that long red line Drove the yankees off of Queenston Heights On the other side the Yankees had a meeting All those injuns with the British made 'em sad Said their leader "Men i'm willing to take part in all the killin' But I just don't dig those injuns when they're mad" What a great victory for the British One of history's most heroic fights! What a sight so fine when that long red line Drove the yankees off of Queenston Heights Well the British kept a fightin' even stronger, Every soldier aimed his musket carefully And those Yankees watched the clock for the moment when ol'Brock Stopped the shooting for some crumpets and some tea ("I say!") What a great victory for the British One of history's most heroic fights! What a sight so fine when that long red line Drove the yankees off of Queenston Heights Then the British charged a-yellin' and a-screamin' And those Yankees ran like buddies in retreat Cried the leader "Man, i'm hip, you don't have to crack that whip" "You can have the hill, cause chum i'm feeling beat!" What a great victory for the British One of history's most heroic fights! What a sight so fine when that long red line Drove the yankees off of Queenston Heights!
