This is the battle of saragarhi 21 vs 10000 which you saw the trailer of Kesari , bollywood movie. Then there is battle of Chamkaur fought by Guru Gobind Singh Jee 40 Sikhs, including his elder sons and three beloved ones against 1000000 Mughals . The battle of saragarhi (late 1890) happened after battle of Chamkaur (1704)

There was no agreement between Sikh soldiers and British soldiers. Everyone was part of the British Army. British recruited Indian people for their army. They found Sikhs and Gurkhas to be the most duty bound groups never giving up even under dire consequences.

Nice video...any gurhas??? Not yet....as they were still intoxicant by statement of sam manekshaw...* if any person says ..he is not afraid of death ..he is either lying or must be gurkha"... sam manekshaw according to my viewpoint said just this too boostup moral of gurkhas as may be he is in any kind of inferiority complex in respect to Sikh sardars ....othewise u see gurkhas have even no match in battle honours earned by Sikh ...in indian army...n there are tales when british officers certainly prefers Sikhs over gurkhas with them i battlefield.

What? Also the Persians/successors to Persian states for a couple thousand years. The one time richest kingdom on the planet Greco-Bactria. That whole graveyard of empires things is a much more recent thing, most of the empires that succeeded in holding and assimilating it were actually from that latitude and similar geographic area though to be fair. And the Russians, Brits and Americans were doomed by the thing that eventually fucked every other long range, vague plan, occupation operation in the last 3 centuries.

Sikh Martial Arts is comprised of circular movements so they can engage multiple enemies at the same time. The gurus knew Sikhs will always have to fight against great numbers. There have been many battles in which Sikhs have thrown down theirs riffles and charged with their swords against great numbers and won the battle.

I’m a Unitarian Universalist from America and have heard one of our minister’s who is also a Sikh speak on their history, and on the history we share. We have a history here and largely in Europe being killed off and born again for speaking out for tolerance, universal salvation (don’t listen to the church, you’re good), abolitionism, liberty and universal divinity. We got our new symbol from our service committee sending thousands of people and resources into occupied Germany and Russia to smuggle out Jews, Roma, and anyone who needed help. They could find us by the lit chalice in the window. We got burned alive more than witches ever did, but we also founded Harvard. Thomas Parker harbored fugitive slaves in his congregations, dared the government to do anything about it and preached with a gun and a bible just in case. He later sent church funds to John Brown’s slave rebellion. We got kicked out of the Council of Nicaea and stamped out as a heresy even among Christians for hundreds of years, and kept on kicking and working on scholarship. The only absolute monarch in history to have an official policy of religious tolerance was John Sigismund Zapolya between the Ottoman Muslims, Hapsburg Catholics and new protestants, he was also the only Unitarian king. We’ve been getting shot in civil rights marches, for speaking out for democracy and trying to bring different religious communities together for 2000+ years. But I take pride in that; I also relish the opportunity to share their story, and stories like Saragarhi of ideological kin that share our convictions when I teach kids on Sunday. We especially appreciate this one as a Texan, cause the Alamo still gets traction around here. Fighting the good fight when no one else will is the only way the world gets better as Rvd Parker said “the moral arc of the universe is long but it bends towards justice.” Nothing but love and respect from us in America.

The war against the Afghans was led by the Sikh Kingdom but after the Sikh kingdom fell to the British (after a series on betrayals by two Sikh generals), large portions of the Sikh (Khalsa) army were merged into the British army and the fighting over the Khyber pass against Afghanistan continued under the British.. The territory they were fighting over was territory which was won over by the Sikh (Punjab) Kingdom but inherited by the British after they defeated the Sikh kingdom.

Sikhs hated Ahmad shah Abdali (emir of afghanistan) more than the British and Mughals. These tribesmen were once the soldiers or the descendants of those in abdali army who raped, pillaged and destroyed North India and filled sikh's holiest shrine with slaughtered cows. When british annexed sikh empire after the death of maharaja ranjit singh, the transfer of power was not brutal (like rapes). That's why sikhs had to fight the tribesmen for the safety of their own lands. British were mostly in charge of government. British Indian army was mainly made up of Indian mercenaries.

@Sean @Elisa - Nice reaction ... Lol- Love Elisa’s reaction on Brits (@tea time 😀) .. But I must share here, Brits in 19th century have fought many wars worldwide and shown exemplary bravery. One can’t win the whole world/ colonise without fighting and winning wars. Sikhs and Brits have fought 4 Anglo-Sikh wars. Brits were able to conquer Punjab last (in ~1857)(amongst all Indian states) because of resistance by Sikh Empire of Maharaj Ranjit Singh at that time, defeating Brits 4 times over many years (while Brits were already ruling rest of India). During these 4 wars, both Sikhs and Brit officers formed a very mutual admiration of each other’s bravery and that is why Sikh and Punjab regiments were formed by Brit officers when they allied and later contributed a lot in both world wars. Funny thing is Sikhs were the most trusted allies for Brits (part of their army) during their rule in India and they were also the people who fought back most in independence struggle or held them accountable during rule (resistance to them). Anyone who has dreamt to rule the whole world (From Alexander to Mongolians to Brits) have dusted big defeats in conquering Punjab. We are rebel by nature and truly believe in democracy and not someone ruling us by force!

15:07 you dont get the context of what Sikh soldiers are to the British and of the Battle. Sikh soldiers are volunteer members of the British Military as well as the British Empire. Hence, they are as Imperialistic as the English with all their "tea and crumpets" As for the Battle, the British didnt act to reinforce the Sikh's because they couldnt. This was an age before phones and the fastest mode of movement is a horse. The forts also do not have enough men to reinforce that tiny signal post. And if they do, they would risk more lives and lose their force in the aftermath regardless. Losing Saragarhi was a tactical victory for the tribesmen, but a strategic one for the British in the end.

Look while the Britishers were in india, gradually, the people then got used to it, and there were systems, armies and jobs that included indians. So indians were there in the british batallions

So it was like these sikh people were part of indian british army and were there to serve for the army. So they did that as they were committed with their duty and what they were there for fearlessly. This is why today also indian army arms most of the sikh soldiers at the most dangerous boders of the country.
