The Battle of Sudoměř was one of the first battles of the Hussite Wars. Against all odds, the one-eyed Jan Žižka managed to fend off a much larger Royalist cavalry force.

Jan Zizka was an absolutely badass. Always outnumbered, never lost. He maybe didn't win as much battles as other famous generals, but Zizka was pretty much creative with his tactics.

As a Czech a grew up with stories about Žižka and Hussites. I was always aware this period is very significant for many Czechs even today but I was not aware how significant was Žižka and his innovations for the modern military history. Mass usage of fire-arms, standardization of weaponry and army procedures, mobile defense (wagons as medieval tanks). End of medieval heavy cavalry as of superior force, implementation of "common people" into standardized army, emphasis on superiority of mobile defensive warfare. And of course the very word "pistol" from the czech word "píšťala" (the flute) adopted for the hand-cannon the Hussies used :) Basically Hussites invented the modern army concept as we know it today...

The first Hussite battle was the battle near the Nekmíř fortress in December 1419 (January 1420). The royal troops were commanded by Bohuslav of Šwamberk, and his army had a strength of 2,000 infantry and cavalry. Jan Žižka had an army strength of 300 infantry and 7 chariots. In the battle, Hynek of Nekmíř fell on the royal side, and Jan Žižka won the battle. He then chose the same strategy in the battle of Sudoměř, where one of the commanders, Jindřich of Hradec, fell on the royal side. cs.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitva_u_Nekmíře

I really appreciate your effort to describe Bohemian history, unfortunately many of the information you have presented is based on some not very reliable sources. I could recommend some reliable sources such as "Jan Zizka" written by historian Petr Cornej, but these would be in Czech language only. Anyway, it is good to know that people these days are still interested in the history of my homeland. Long live to Bohemia!

Just donated the other day. As you continue through the 7 years war, can you eventually do all of the battles between the French and the Coalition army, etc.? Also the battles fought between the pragmatic armies and the French during the SIlesian wars? Those would round out the battles of Frederick. Im watching and rewatching all of those episodes as I listen through a book on Frederick on audible. Really great stuff. :)

Nah, they werent used for moving. They were a fort. Used for stoping cavalry charges. The hussites usualy nade a circle of wagons bound together by chains and placed cannons betveen them. Then forced the crusaders into attack by using the cannons and defended against the charge. If all went well, the crusaders started to flee, and then some of the wagons were pulled aside to make a gap and send out hussite cavalry and finish the enemy.

To be perfectly honest Sigismund could not do single thing to back his protection to Hus, against will of Pope. The fact everyone involved must have been aware. Including Sigismund and Hus. Hus must have know what are his chances and went there anyway. Despite this, this event forever tarnished Sigismund reputation.

I'm not sure how much history is taught in other countries such as Spain, but I would like to know exactly what happened when the Spanish invaded Comanche territory in the 1500s and early 1600s. The reason I ask is because I was working a labor job in Vancouver British Columbia and a co-worker from Mexico asked me if I was native and I said yes I'm higher and he spoke about about the Haida and the conquistadors. Which made me curious about the history behind the Comanche territory invasions.

I wonder if the Hussites, as Slavs, were not influenced by Slavic Orthodox Christians, who to this day take communion from a collective chalice under both species. One request though: please don't abandon the 7 Years War!

They definitely did. Jeronyme of Prague (a burned colegue of Hus) traveled a lot west and east (Byzantion) and inspired future hussites greatly by orthodoxy. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerome_of_Prague

Love the Bohemian map. Krumlov, Tábor or Sudoměř is written in czech, Pilsen is in german and Prague in english. What a mess really. But evidently there was some effort put into research, unlike several other channels I've seen cover this period, and the pronunciantion isnt bad either.
