The banality of evil: many people couldn't imagine before this video that this man could speak normally. Yes. He could and he could play with children and be a cool dude and at the same time he was a thoroughly sick mind. That is the banality of evil.

99% of what we ever heard about Hitler was propaganda. His speeches weren't translated and if they were, never in totality or put in context. What we did hear of his speeches were clips of the ends of his speeches and loud audience applause. Propagandists do this with every adversary, still today. How often do we hear President Putin or the Red Chinese leadership actually making a point that contradicts what our politicians and media say? Never! Josef Stalin had already murdered 20 million people by June of 1941, mostly but not exclusively Soviet citizens. Propaganda works on 80% of people no questions asked.

10:40 "a torpedo that miraculously did not explode" Should have been "a torpedo that, as usual, did not explode". US torpedoes had major issues with their warheads at that point of the war.

This was the graduate school for the USN in warfare. USN thought they knew how to conduct a war. IJN taught them otherwise. Hats off to the USN. It is ok to make mistakes. The real sin is to not learn and continue making them.

Your ugly commentary was completely unnecessary. You ruined the original English text by typing over it and obliterating the original test. This was originally, a well-done old video you ruined and are trying to take credit for on your ugly channel.

So Cpt Hoover is wrongly dismissed and Adm Callahan is given a posthumous Medal of Honor. The real villains were the Chiefs of Naval Ordinance who sent our warriors out with totally ineffective torpedoes and continued to insist they were fine with massive evidence to the contrary. Go Navy!

@@HoH Thanks. I'm reading Victor Davis Hanson's book, "The Second World Wars", (excellent book) and he references it but doesn't go into detail. It's odd that the Soviets beat the Japanese quiet soundly in '39 yet preformed terribly against the Finns and the Germans in the early stages. As you know, the Japanese army had issues but being a bad army is not one of them.

The USS Helena CL-50 -"The Machine Gun Cruiser", as hailed by the Japanese, they thought these Brooklyn Class Light Cruisers had some kind of New Rapid Firing 6 inch Gun (It kind of did, older guns with a new purpose). Reality, 10,000 Tons, 100,000 HP, w/ 15 fast firing 6 inch Rifles it literally was a War Wagon with Cannon Caliber Machine Guns. I'm Very Proud to be an American

I’m a Hispanic American and i don’t speak a lick of German but i noticed a few things. Hitler has a very deep, calm, imposing voice. Not too fast and not too slow very but confident and to the point. As someone who has taken singing lessons in the past it almost sounds like he’s keeping a conscious effort to sound forward and keeps a tight control of his tone. He has moments of excitement during his monologue and then immediately goes back his a relaxed, intentional deep speaking tone. This would make me very intrigued if i was in the room listening and i would want to be extra attentive to what he was saying. Truly an extraordinary piece of history.
