If you saw just how many props from famous movies have to be restored just like this after being stored in similar conditions after the production ends you would know just how little production companies care about, or for the most part, have the time for caring for anything that won’t be reused after a production… Staff at production companies are paid the bare minimum the company can get away with for each position, and because of the bare minimum staff, they have to work insane overtime, and in many cases unpaid overtime. It’s really sad tbh… I know so many people who got into production work who after several years were left injured physically, and mentally from how incredibly awful the working conditions were. So I wouldn’t be surprised if the place things were being stored was the result of greedy upper management/owners not wishing to spend a dime on decent storage conditions. Because so many young people aspire to work in such a field the owners can afford to pay the Junior staff (and most staff tbh) the barest of minimum, or not at all…(hurray slave labo…Uhh sorry I mean unpaid internships…). They like to pay for only one or two staff to manage warehouses to house old production gear like this, who are also responsible for 50 other things, while being paid minimum wage or more likely being unpaid sla…I mean interns…. Such a sad state of affairs… I work for myself in audio post production, so I can be an owner of a business, and at least make a livable hourly wage and not a slave wage like when I first started out… Oh and that was after the six month long unpaid internship… 😔 What a mess of an industry! Note to anyone who wants to work in that industry! Work for yourself! Even if that requires spending nights doing passion projects for free to build some skills and a resume! It sure beats working for slave wages! If not learn what you can as quickly as possible and then quit and work for yourself!!!

Every musical instrument, however poor the quality, deserves respect. i paid £5 for my first nylon stringed acoustic guitar with an unpadded PVC gigbag, in ~1965. £5 was a weeks wages as a temporary employee in a Jeweler's Shop and equivalent to nearly £100 today. It would be extremely satisfying to get that guitar back and improve it with the knowledge that I have now. I purchased a circa 1898 Napolese Mandolin from Ebay. It was given to very young English children who trashed it. Although massive fret wear indicates that it was played a lot it was never a quality instrument. I will restore it and improve it, not for profit but just for the satisfaction of owning, playing and displaying a one hundred and thirty year old instrument.

Always remember that those who don't play and love guitars don't know how to treat them. I once lent one of my acoustic guitars to somebody who wanted to start learning to play, telling them that this guitar was the one I'd save first if the house was on fire, and should be treated with respect & care. A few weeks later, the person I lent it to said they weren't getting anywhere with it and I could take it back. I found it leaning against a radiator- the top had cracked in two places and was coming away from the sides and had to be replaced. It was never the same after the surgery. It's amazing what damage can be done by the unknowing and I'm glad to see this one restored to life.

In this case a large part of the problem is they did not even know how to treat a stroage wearhouse. It is prety obvious from the fact the wood went rusty that something was rusting above it probably a galvanised metal roof which was leaky and had damage on the galvanisation. So not only was the guatar treated badely but the wearhouse and everything else in it.

I suppose it was the production company working for the BBC.. but, well.. that is a less concise title tbh
@timbeaton50453 жыл бұрын
@@CrimsonCustomGuitars Yep. It was basically clickbait. As you alluded to, it was with the production company who made the actual program, which, as i checked, is called Hello Halo, based in Glasgow. According to their website they are, and I quote:- "Hello Halo are an independent television production company. We make fresh, ambitious popular factual series and formats for UK and international broadcasters. Between us our team have been responsible for some of the biggest shows on tv and have a host of BAFTA, Emmy, RTS and Broadcast awards and nominations" So, no. Not the BBC. Maybe you could give us a bit more background as to how the guitar ended up back at Crimson, i.e who sent it back and why. Did Crimson request it's return?

Such a great video Ben, in my eyes you are a LEGENDARY luthier! It's only natural IMO that someday you would eventually have to restore one of your own instruments.

Someone probably took it for "just a kid's show prop" and commenced to showcase their lack of respect by... doing whatever resulted into that. After the initial shock, it was a pleasure to watch you make the instrument well again. :)

I haven't watched this channel in quite a while (not that the quality has gone down, I'm sure.) but this video brought me back. Even though I don't play a lot of guitar nowadays, I'd love to have instrument made from an old table or door like this. Great stuff.

Thanks for coming back in, I really do appreciate it! And I would love to build you one of these.. I'm seriously considering ramping up production on the raw series guitars.

Ben, I love your creativity and innovative thinking when it comes to new designs, but somehow watching you work on something like this that is well within your comfort zone is very calming and still somehow inspiring. Didn't realise I needed this content until I watched it. Thank you. Looking forward to the next build!

It’s quite amazing that a guitar which has been neglected in such a way as this one had been, can be put back to right. I loved the fact that you didn’t make it pristine, leaving some evidence of its life. Good to see some guitar action!

Excellent, the circle of life. The production company approach you and ask you to turn a load of scrap into a guitar. You do this and then they do everything in their power to covert the guitar back into a load of scrap. Brilliant.

It's BEAUTIFUL! I love it! 😍 For a quickie build you knocked it out of the park! Regarding BBC's abuse, the guitar took it like a champ and came up swinging Hammers! That's a real-world testament to Crimson's build quality and joinery techniques, even when it's a off the cuff build.🙏 Excellent work and Thanks for sharing!🙂

Reminds me of an old joke about the Union Key Grip test. They put you in the back of a cube truck (a small lorry) with a bowling ball, and if you can either break it or loose it, you can join the Union. Looks like who ever was put in charge of storage at the warehouse was trying out for the test.

Whatever time you think is appropriate for coffee, it is that time somewhere. I'm also going to drop a crazy build idea here: single pickup that slides between the bridge and neck positions. I'm imagining a knob/wheel connected to some sort of gear mechanism in the pickup cavity. I don't play or build, so I don't know if that's been done before or is even viable.

You build reminds me of a guitar built by Rick Kelly from Carmine Street Guitars. He uses wood from old buildings in NYC. They are beautiful, and have this aged look to the wood that is not found on modern guitar builds.
