The Hungarian ruler from 1947 Mátyás Rákosi (born Mátyás Rosenfeld), spoke of his party's tactic of carving off 'salami slices' from the target civilisation, until it was all gone. By this he meant that the ending of a civilisation could be achieved if the ruling party just focused on cutting off tiny slices that the people either could be convinced to think weren't that big a deal, or didn't realise at all. I noticed that they conflated the "War of the Three Kingdoms" (note the singular war) with the English Civil War, stating that "there are loads of different names for it...". (Really?!). Referred to it as "the civil war in England" and later, "Charles... declared the British Civil Wars, English Civil War, whatever you want to call it...". What?! I'm just going to call the English Civil War by its name. English war in the Kingdom of England with English people. I'm so fed up of this nonsense.

I’m Anglo Saxon English. My ancestors date back to Queen Katherine Parr and beyond. Without the innovations of the English the World would be a very different place, and not for the better. We’re going through a rough patch at the moment but it will eventually sort itself out as always.

Thanks for this Simon. I listened to the Radio 4 show aghast. A supposedly Oxford Academic telling us it was a British Civil War. This was a struggle to replace the English King, by the English Parliament and Merchant class. At one point he said in 1642 Ireland had been subject to hundreds of years of British Colonial rule. But Britain was only founded in 1707. 65 years later. The English King was nominally King of Ireland but the English only controlled the Pale and Dublin, plus a few Plantations. He must have known this and known he was lying.

Your argument is bogus because Britain existed before 1707. Furthermore, Britain existed before England existed. The earliest known written use of the word 'Britain' is dated 325 BC approximately.

I’m a Welsh nationalist ( in the old sense, I definitely don’t want an independent Wales )and I’m banned from most social media, local council meetings, certain areas of my city etc, all for telling the truth about today’s society. I’ve also had many so called friends walk away from me over my apparently “ harsh, racist views “ on immigration. Trust me, no nationalists are considered good people.
