I love the writing and performances! The conversations are so natural and realistic, and without just doing exposition dumps, they use situations like the one-sided phone call to expose the inner heart and personal relationships with Ritchie. And immediately after showing his surface as being despicable and immature😅 Love this show

I feel like Richie has always been jealous of Carmy's relationship with Michael. It sounds like Michael encouraged Carmy, probably was proud of his accomplishments and talked about him, meanwhile Richie's the one who's by his side, watching him spiral and trying to help keep the business that was supposedly so important to Michael from falling apart. Then he leaves the business to Carmy.I figure Richie's also got some anger towards Michael, because of the way he died, and he's transferred it onto Carmy.

I love the reactions of people who have never worked at a high level in the restaurant industry. It's just pure horror with reactions like "you all need counseling." How do you think we cope with the pressure? Most of us are lunatics who blow off steam in the most destructive of ways. Even better is this is only episode 2 in season 1... enjoy the ride you two.
@pabloc88087 ай бұрын
Very unhealthy industry. It's very sad to see how the self-destructive tendencies and drug/alcohol abuse are almost glorified, because "everyone's doing it" and laughing about it to deal with the stress so why not do it too?

You just KNOW that the writing, the actors and their performances, their fleshing out and depth of these beautiful, flawed (sometimes seriously) human beings, their relationships are just so amazingly done when you find yourself both loving and DESPISING the characters and for all their conflicting characteristics and redeeming qualities, almost every time Richie opens his mouth I find myself immediately barking "Shut the fuck up Cousin, go away!" 😂 And wanting to shake him violently by the shoulders 😅 I'm so glad *and happy* for all of the characters having their own development archs etc. Can't wait for the next season! wooo!

As for Ritchie, he does have some pretty bad behavior and needs to work through things. That said, he also lost his best friend and is going through a divorce, and it’s seems recent enough that it’s still impacting him as shown with still wearing the ring and mentioning having divorce lawyer bills backed up while taking care of Carmy’s mom in episode 1. So all the pain that Carmy and Sugar are going through losing a brother, he’s also going through. I love his character though, he’s just so entertaining even as a dick and his arc is great too, looking forward to y’all seeing it.

If you've ever heard of a famous chef named Thomas Keller (I believe he was the first three Michelin star American chef; The French Laundry is his restaurant), McHale recently said that he was the primary inspiration for his character here. (And if you're wondering if Carmy has a similar real-life inspiration, apparently Marco Pierre White was one of them (at least, in terms of how Carmy looks/dresses in the kitchen).

I never experienced the kind of abuse we see Carmine getting from Joel McHale in this episode. I got hard talks when I wasn't up to snuff, but nothing intended to make me feel shitty. What I can vouch for are how vivid the work dreams can be. I haven't had one of those dreams in a long time, but I used to wake up soaking wet because I was washing dishes in my sleep and sweating all night. Shit was rough! But I kind of miss it, every place I worked had a great crew. In an office job, there's all these layers of competition and politics and you really have to be mindful of who you tell what information, even if everyone generally gets along. In the kitchen, we were all always on the same team and even the people who would never get along with me outside of work always had my back, full stop, in the kitchen.
