Jolly Reiver. I drive up the A68 from Consett on the way to Scotland several times both ways per week. As a courier I am in areas of Northumberland at all times of day/night and year. Anyway, I film my trips on a go pro, and previous to me even knowing there was a tale about a biggy around Northumberland, I have heard weird sounds and seen bent trees. If I attempt to sleep in a layby on A68/A696 etc i have serious concerns , you know, warewolves et al. Around the time these events peaked, I was volunteering on a woodlands clearance project (removing invasive species) near Morpeth and not too far from Bolam Lake. At the beginning of the week one of the local conservation guys jokingly and half heartedly told us to 'watch out for the bigfoot' and we all laughed it off. Then one late afternoon, a few days later, a group of us were walking back to our meeting point after a day of felling sycamore, when there was a noise that I can only describe as a growling scream coming from our left from the top of a bank shrouded in trees. We all stopped and looked up and there was nothing to be seen; we shrugged it off and carried on with our day. It was only later we remembered the bigfoot tale.

I’m not saying it *was* my husband, but for many years we’ve visited the Lake. Sometimes he feels mischievous and goes deep into the wood, when few people seem to be around, and he makes crazy calls, screams and growls for a laugh, amusing himself that people might think he’s Bigfoot! I believe in Bigfoot, however, he doesn’t. Sorry if it was him you were hearing, I’ll flap his ears with a dishcloth right now…🙄

@@TheJollyReiver I am a South African man living in Motherwell, Scotland, UK. I am 44 years old and I have been living in the UK for 20 years now. I moved here in September of 2004. Now I never really believed in cryptids. In fact being brought up as a "rational" person. I was always told to believe that you only believe in a creature's existence when it has been catalogued and it's DNA is on record. In 2004 I moved to the UK and at that time I was living in a town north of Liverpool called Southport. It is in Merseyside in the north western part of England. It is the usual sleepy English seaside town. Several weeks after I had moved there, round about Christmas time, me and a bunch of my friends decided to go visit a forest area in the countryside nearby a town called Formby which is also just north of Liverpool. Now the Christmas time of year is very cold, grey and bleak. So when we arrived at the forest and got out of our cars and walked about a bit in this forest, it looked very eerie, like something out of one of those old Dracula movies or out of a Bram Stoker story. Not long after arriving there began this weird howling noise, it gave me the creeps. My friends told me to not worry about it, it was probably just the wind. But that did not feel right for me. So I looked at the tree tops. And they were not swaying about at all. I pointed this out to them but they told me not to worry about it anyway. Things is I just felt like something was not right. Anyway this weird howling sound continued. And then the sounds started to become like a primal growl. Really deep and guttural like that of a great African ape. I could not believe it. Here I was in frigid England, in the middle of a forest hearing these ape like growls. I started getting twitchy now. I had not seen anything but I was sure this was something animalistic and not some natural element. So in this bunch of friends, there was this fellow South African. I said to him " Hermann (his name is Hermann) does this not sound like apes or monkeys to you. You know like the ones back home in Africa". He listened for a while. Then he said " Yes you are right. That is exactly like the monkeys and apes in Africa would sound like". With an absolute look of bewilderment on his face. Our friends then started to laugh and say that the monkeys had followed us from Africa. And as they were laughing there was was this loud howling bellowing scream which seemed to fill the heavens, the forest, the ground, the trees and our very bodies. Needless to say they stopped there laughter and we all got out of there as quickly as possible. We drove out of that forest pretty much at top speed and spent the rest of the day at the dunes nearby Formby where we new there would be more people and we would feel safer. Well it has been many years since that happened and I landed up moving about until I settled in Motherwell, Scotland, UK. And even though I never saw anything physical that day it must have been something animal or cryptid to have made such a terrible sound. It is a sound I never heard before and I have never heard it since. But if I did hear it again I would instantly recognise it. Since then I have become more open to believing that cryptids or animals or whatever you want to call it may exist but that does not necessarily mean I always believe every story. I have not told many people my story since it happened but when I do I just get the old nod and roll of the eyes like to say "ok crazy". And the thing is that I did not see an animal or cryptid, I just heard sounds. So I can only imagine how much worst the treatment must be if you heard a sound and saw a cryptid. Well feel free to use this story for your show if you want. Names and all. Show less

I live right next to bolam lake was hanging round one night at the lake with friends , we heard a very loud scream from quite a distance away seemed very unusual to have the volume it did , I still remember it now even though it was thirty years ago we all stopped dead looked at each other then legged it back to the cars , the only other thing I've heard that I cant explain, we were it the woods people call it wild camping now was around 1am , we heard footsteps in the distance along the track in the woods so we went quiet so did the footsteps all of a sudden the footsteps were back on the track about 100 meters down the hill from us , sounded very heavy and was now running ! we heard it going through the branches and bushes at a phenomenal rate although the footsteps were running it was more of a jog the steps didn't really Match the distance it was covering we quickly pointed torches and a lamping spotlight , however couldnt see anything and the footsteps once passed us went quiet again ! two things in 40 years of camping and walking i cant really explain , not a believer in a uk samsquanch unfortunately ( would love it if there was some here ) i dont think there is enough habitat or hiding places to support anything like a Bigfoot , there is not one place in Northumberland where people aren't walking all over no matter how remote you think you are up here 😊 ❤️

I have heard UK's deer population is out of control and how many livestock just go missing? You would be shocked how close to Seattle and Portland sightings are common, we are talking 30 minute drives. Take into account you now have multiple hair samples confirming yes the UK has more than one leopard roaming around and there seems to be a breeding population since the 70's and not one has been shot or caught and as far as I am aware most of your big cat activity is farther South where there is even less wild land. I doubt you have a wild hominid population in the UK like Bigfoot, just do not completely discount the possibility.

I haven't seen anything of the like personally, but it isn't unusual to come across deer, wild boar and Forest of Dean lions (sheep) roaming about. I have to admit I've been indulging in big foot videos on KZbin of late. I don't really buy in to it, but some of the scenery (Alaska/British Colombia) that gets captured on video is pretty impressive and that is enough to keep me watching. Also, the samsquanch reference from OP didn't go unnoticed.

I’ve had a couple of strange incidents happen in very remote places at night that I couldn’t explain. My friend and I were walking home from a pub well after midnight in pitch dark countryside along a very poorly lit road and on the other side of the road was a cemetery behind some woods. We became aware that something on the other side of the wall, in the woods was walking too, crunching the undergrowth, if we stopped it stopped too, and when we walked it started walking as well. My mate shouted “ Leg it!” and ran off leaving me alone so I had to run too. I’ll expand on the other incident if anyones interested.

Another time I and six friends were wild camping in the forested mountains of north wales, the trees were so dense we had to cut out voids for our two tents. One night all of us were in one tent talking, my legs were outside the tents unzipped doors when something smashed the main horizontal pole of the tent, I drew my legs in ridiculously quickly! Someone whispered that I should go outside and see what it was, yeah, right! We all sat in absolute silence for a full ten minutes, barely breathing until we’d gathered enough courage to investigate. We found nothing but the tent was completely destroyed.

Supposed to be something similar to Big Foot in Cannock Chase Forest in Staffordshire. Along with an equally mahoosive werewolf, ufo sightings, an unrelated 'pigman' & a black eyed ghostly child. It's a 1000yr old 50 square mile forest. So who knows what resides there hidden from mankind. We believe he is.. or once was.. definitely a real being.. who somehow was transported into this time.. and perhaps given the task.. whether he wished to or not.. of guarding this area of fairy mounds.. And.. as was reported.. the tracks were of different sizes.. perhaps his family dwells there with him.. That there have been no recent sittings does not mean he is gone.. rather just discovered ways of keeping hidden better.. in another demention perhaps? Awesome story, sir… and told as only you can.. excellent work indeed.. Earnestly we hope that you will.. as you stated.. continue to venture round about the world.. hunting for more haunting and bizarre stories such as this.. We are grateful indeed his story ended as it did.. so sad that when people encounter something out of their range of understanding.. their first impulse is to destroy it.. without even knowing the purpose for its being there.. Thank you ever so much for this amazing tale…As we have said many times.. you are gifted with the perfect voice for what you do.. it is achingly beautiful to listen to.. and serves you quite well.. as you spin these fascinating tales from beyond reality.. please do continue..🌹🙏 William and Jen 💜💙🌱🌹🙏

They are alive and well in the uk , ive had numerous encounters with the forest people/British Bigfoot around winter hill area and its my belief that they use portals either opened by them or they open at certain times of day/night this also would give them the ability to disappear but this is just IMO as ive not yet witnessed this phenomenon but i can assure you they are in the UK and it's an extremely scary when encountering them as not all are welcoming the older ones in there clans dont want humans interacting with them and do their best to scare you away by tree/bush shaking stone throwing and growling to name just a few, but good luck to those that want to interact but be respectful

They absolutely are and the prime reason they do so well is that most people are not even aware of them, let alone actively looking for them. 🎉

I've investigate at the paranormal for most of my adult life. I've been privileged to work in some of the UK's most haunted places and Northumberland has a special place in my heart as it is steeped in legend... On patreon I made a comment that there are many things I believe can exist put Bigfoot something that could not exist in the UK.. I'm not doubting that these fishermen didn't see anything or maybe after a few beers the basically saw something and the imagination did the rest.. England is only 72 miles at its widest and we have thousands of villagers spread throughout the UK and yes we have a lot of forestry in the UK but nothing that would keep a bigfoot hidden not even in Northumberland... I believe in wild cats panthers etc being able to survive in the UK but Bigfoot.. definitely not guys.. jolly Reiver .. you always do a good job with your videos.. I find them very interesting and full of folklore and tails.. so keep up the good work.. The UK mainland could not support such large creatures as I can go 30 miles in any direction in North Yorkshire without bumping into someone I know😂 so therefore (big foot) could not remain elusive for too long.. Although there are creatures that could be into dimensional put that's getting weird out of hand... I'm a sceptic believer but I have to draw the line at the Geordie Bigfoot. But who knows, I wasn't there that night and I haven't interviewed any witnesses of said phenomena. Thanks buddy it's always a pleasure to watch your work A later edit... One thing I do agree with that I have investigate it many places in Northumberland that are said to be haunted.. and it is very strange that just before something happens nature always alerts you to it no matter whether it's daytime or night-time,nature knows that something is about to happen before you do. So I definitely agree with that claim

I was walking in Kielder forest on my own and got this strange feeling l was being watched. I was walking Lands end to John o Groats so l was used to walking on my own but this was really strange. I also heard what l thought was someone chopping wood. Could this be wood knocks? I increased my pace and once out of the forest the feeling left me. Kielder forest is one of the biggest forests in the U.K.

Never knew about this, sounds similair to the stories of the grey man of Ben Macdui in the Scottish highlands. A lot of similarities to sasquatch reports from north America.

If we Americans don't have the folklore of Europe--or the Jolly Reiver--at least we have more Bigfeet!

It makes sense that there would be different species or sub-species ape-like bipeds. In the US in some areas they are reported as much smaller and with a reddish coat. They obviously studied Monty Python's work on "How Not To Be Seen." Very nice video. I subscribed!

I used to fish Bolam as a kid. Once caught a Pike with a false plastic worm. We were too frightened to remove it so asked another bloke fishing to unhook it for us. Another time we were virtually hyperthermic and close to death I'm sure. Still cycled home. We never saw or heard the 'Geordie Yeti' mind.

I covered this story for Fortean Times website in 2003 and went up at the sams time as the CFZ. After tracking down the most (at the time) recent witnesses I found they were all on a message board that pre-dated their sightings and the main guy believed he had a personal connection with the Geordie Bigfoot. Suffice to say I think it was a flight of fancy between a group of like minded ppl. The sightings from the 90s are different though. I would be open to the idea the amount of ancient sites around the lake (standing stones, tumuli, earthworks etc) could be a factor in some way. Either way it is an interesting place to visit.

@Jen999 No lass, I meant in general. I'm not dissing Reiver. Music is used in media all the time because it elevates a stagnant monologue. It enhances story telling and mood. You ever seen a show or docu that DOESN'T use music? Na. Because they don't exist.

Whether they come through port holes or not. One thing for sure is they eat meat fruit etc. They drink water and they breathe Air. They also breed. To me this would suggest that like us if they don't do the activities i have just mentioned they die.

There is a monastery nearby to Bolam Lake and it has been well known for years that one of the monks whom is reported to be quite a large man regularly strolls near to the lake sometimes at night. He scared one of my friends whilst my friend was walking his dog quite recently. He may have also taken a vow of silence as he does not seem to speak to anyone but he is not supernatural or menacing, just a guy out for a walk minding his own business really. I believe that is who people have seen and the locals are well aware of him if you ask them.

I can recall a story about the fisherman and the story of a bhuddist monk doing walking meditation at night after the visitors had left first the day. I can’t find any references on the net to this explanation but I’m pretty sure I haven’t made it up.

Spooky. Here on the north carolina Virginia border we call them the red eyes. Also the wampas cat which is something else i believe. We have a decent size housing development built out in the country, an we would be walking on the neighborhood at night with woods surrounding an were hear something walking in thenwoods, following us. Wede stop an hear it take one more step. Place called quesenbury. We called it the quesenbury creature.

Love the video but unless there are much older stories i suspect it's the locals having fun with people. There's not really enough woodland there to hide a large hominid. Even if you didn't see it you'd see signs of him. The Pacific Northwest of North America has hundreds of miles of dense woodlands.
@azillliasmith27342 ай бұрын
No it's not the locals there are lots of fore lore tales in the north /north east and they are connected to the old religion which never died out .....people are careful not to mock these things.....and it won't be trying to hide....and what has the dense woodlands of America got to do with this video?
@GravesRWFiA2 ай бұрын
@@azillliasmith2734 they liken it to bigfoot, which is usually associated with north america. What I'm saying is there doesn't seem to be any lore prior to the 1990's so it's not like loch ness where there are stories from long ago.

@@frogmarch1000 absolutely.and there are places in England famous for their local lore. but I'm talking about this particular site wasn't one of those. and with the lore here showing up at the end of the 20th century that seems to make it suspect. Very interesting. thanks. My opinion would be that these creatures are real, not paranormal, but they weren't chased off the garden of Eden, like we were and ,thus, God or the gods, gave them extraordinary capacities, for hiding, reflect, retain or absorb the light (?] Etc. . Maybe running like hell, without any noise. They are "superhuman" and they stay afar from us
